i was looking for some delicious food in the south shore, and came across the bluefish river tavern. the menu looked right up my alley, so my friend and i stopped in for an amazing dinner! emily & morgan provided excellent service, they were packed but we were able to get us in within about 10 minutes. we started with raw duxbury oysters which were, unsurprisingly, some of the best i've ever had. duxbury, wellfleet and p.e.i. are all second to none! luckily this restaurant is so close to the ocean, they were incredibly fresh. then we tried their whipped burrata bruschetta, again one of the best i've ever had. it was juicy and sweet with heirloom tomatoes and local honey. i'd come here just for those two! for our meals, we ordered the statler chicken, which came out perfect! it's hard to mess up a chicken, but there are places that do. every part of the dinner from the chicken to the mashed potatoes to the asparagus and au jus was amazing quality. my friend ordered their blackened tuna which was absolutely delicious, but if you get both i'd recommend trying the tuna last because it's packed with so much flavor! the blackened tuna really packs a punch. the mac & cheese we got for a side was excellent, just slightly overdone noodles but not a major issue. mushrooms were great & a huge portion. incredibly delicious & filling meal. i had their duxbury spritz which was also great, just could use a bit more chambord. raw duxbury oysters 10/10 bruschetta 10/10 chicken dinner 10/10 tuna 10/10 mac & cheese 9.5/10 mushrooms 10/10 duxbury spritz 9.4/10 i found it difficult to find anything to criticize here, the food was phenomenal in such an unassuming location. i'll definitely return and would highly recommend bluefish river tavern to anyone! ambiance: 5/5 food: 5/5 drinks: 4.7/5 service: 5/5 bluefish river tavern: 5/5 read more

This was our first visit and we will be back. The service was great and everything we ate was amazing. My husband started with the crab cake which he raved about. He had the swordfish and there was nothing left on the plate. I had the fried chicken and it was some of the best I have ever had. We had a great bottle of Caymus and finished with the bread pudding. The staff here are incredibly nice. I stopped in to pick up a friend's order recently and the hostess was so friendly. She's from the upper Midwest and she raved about some items I've been dying to try on the menu. It was a very welcoming experience. As anyone who frequented the very popular restaurant that formerly occupied this space (The Milepost) can attest, what was formerly a classic, intimate, but ultimately dated interior has been throughly refreshed. My husband I have been here twice recently and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food is absolutely phenomenal and service is always very prompt and friendly. On my most recent visit, I tried the raw oysters and then the seared scallops with risotto and asparagus. The seafood was sooo fresh and the scallops were cooked to perfection. My husband has a gluten intolerance and this place has SO many gluten free options - nearly every menu item is or can be made gluten free, and options are clearly marked. The only downside is that this restaurant can get quite loud, as it is seemingly very popular and tables are close together in an open room. But the food is worth it! read more

Went out to Celebrate my Elizabeth's Birthday, we went out to: Bluefish River Tavern in Duxbury, we started with the Rolls and Butter.....there Butter Taste like exactly like Texas Roadhouse.....it's so good, we also had a Caesar Salad, it was big enough for us 2, it was really good too, then our Main Dish were: she got the Mussels with Bread....I also tried some and they were Delicious, I got Swordfish Piccata with Butternut Squash Risotto, and Green Beans, that Meal was delicious and really good, we had Leftovers, they Surprised my Wife with Chocolate Lava Cake and we really liked it.....overall this Restaurant was great, very Packed for a Sunday Night with Families and so on, definitely give it a 9 out of 10, excellent place to bring your Wife, Kids, and Family. read more

They just do everything right. Drinks are great and come fast from bartenders that care if you like your drink. They make a proper and excellent old fashioned. Service is always good especially at the bar. I've ordered at least half the menu at this point and it ranges from very good to great. The ribs and steak tip combo is a go to. Pizzas are awesome. The dining room is really loud even on slow nights, could stand some help wih the acoustics. 6-8pm there's always a wait but we try to time getting there right at 8pm and can usually find seats at the bar. read more

We've enjoyed this wonderful restaurant many times since it opened. We especially like the menu and the wide variety of offerings. Visited recently for a family meal and it did not disappoint. Service, drinks, and food were spot on. They've done a nice job with the space available and, judging from the healthy volume of business, they're doing things right. Again another five star experience with another incredible meal. Not only is the team incredibly kind incredibly accommodating, they go out of their way to make sure you're happy. And I have to say I have never had food that has been prepared this well. And I am a pretty good chef. If you like grilled salmon on Caesar salad, you're in for a real treat. We had an amazing time and the food was to die for! Our server was fantastic and recommended the burrata and I'm so glad she did because it was the best burrata I've ever had. Then had bolognese and Mac and cheese both were good. And for dessert we had a crumbled cookie with ice cream and was also good but the true star of the show was the burrata I would eat that for the rest of my life if I could. What a great find in the little town of Duxbury! The prices are fair and the food is very fresh. We absolutely crushed the fresh oysters . They were extremely fresh and we were sad when they were finished. The coconut shrimp was very crunchy without a ton a batter and the shrimps were huge!! I would recommend ordering both appetizers!! Out of the entrees the Shrimp Nduja pasta really stood out. The sauce was kind of like a vodka sauce, but lighter and it was incredibly delicious. Highly recommend that dish! I would order again in a heart beat. We shared the bread pudding which was very heavy, so I recommend sharing. It would be too much on your own if you had apps and a full entree before. Bluefish River is a great place to get a delicious meal. The service was fantastic, we sat at the bar and had two bartenders attending to us. I had the salmon. It was delicious with a nice crust, and perfectly cooked bok choy and rice. My wife had the Swordfish, it was very tasty, however slightly overcooked for my liking, but still delicious. We appreciated the air conditioning when we entered Bluefish River Tavern on a sweltering summer night, but it became too chilly after a while. The nautical decor contributed to the casual fun atmosphere. The fruity Summer Sangria was refreshing while we waited at the bar for our booth. The creamy mushroom risotto complemented the Baked Haddock well. There was an abundance of hand-cut fries on the Seafood Platter Special and the haddock, shrimp, scallops and onion rings had a light crunchy coating. We had dinner here Sunday night with my cousin & his wife. Our server was excellent! Last time I ate here I had the fish stew that was delicious & filling. I had the New York Steak this time which was unexpectedly very tender with red wine sauce & mushroom risotto! Our food was fabulous - the service was superb - the bathrooms were immaculate - could not have been better. I had the crab cake sandwich (lots of crab and not so much filler) and my husband had the fish sandwich (huge piece of steamy, flaky fish).
