Had dinner for 4 at BlueFin. Everything start to finish was excellent. Parking is in a lot shared by other businesses. We were greeted on arrival and taken to our table. The service was knowledgable and effective. The food was delicious - we had a mix of cheese with is dishes, sushi and sashimi - the fish was fresh and tasty and the presentation was nothing spectacular but was fine. We went to BlueFin for our 25th wedding anniversary this week. This was our first time at this location. We did not have a reservation but it wasn't too crowded on Tuesday night. The restaurant is a little dark for me but the sushi was amazing! We had four different roles and each one was better than the first! This review is solely about my first impression of the restaurant. I didn't get to eat here tonight as apparently it's reservation only on Saturday night, but the wording of the sign on their door is confusing--it's says "dining room open from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, reservations full." We walked in and the restaurant smells fishy. The female hostess' reaction is borderline rude. She simply said "Did you see the sign?" Yes, we did and read twice before entering; it's not our fault that the sign didn't say "reservations only, no walk-in". Anyway, I find it a bit strange for a strip mall restaurant to be like this, but I guess they must be doing super well--good for them. This review is specifically only for the to-go order. First off, let's talk price. The toro sashimi appetizer, Hamachi, and Howie's roll was a whopping total $62.38. So, if you're on a tight budget, this might not be your go-to spot. But onto the taste--the Hamachi came in a generous portion, albeit a tad burnt. The Howie's roll, with blue fin fish (fun fact, apparently even Japan ships blue fin from NJ), was amazing and so tasty with its flavors packed into eight pieces, although the size was a bit on the narrower side. Okok but we can't forget about the best dish which was the toro sashimi. Perfectly cut and melting on the tongue, it was just perfection. The best part was, they gave us a bag of ice for the sashimi so you know they're very conscious of the quality for to-go orders. A quick note: Make sure to double-check the hours, as the dining room and takeout have different operating hours. If you're planning to visit on a Friday, note that the dining room doesn't open until 6:30 pm. Still my all time favorite sushi place. This time we let head chef Yong Kim choose for us as we sat at the bar. We have no allergies and eat pretty much anything. That made for a very exciting time never knowing what was coming out next. The oysters were incredibly cold and crisp. The dipping sauce for the shrimp and lobster was amazing. The tuna sundae was strips of tuna rather than chunks and melted in your mouth along with some pistachio nuts to add crunch. The sea bass was quite delicious and the pepper relish was the perfect touch. The sashimi was outstanding and had wasabi in the rice. The belly of the tuna was truly special. The lobster and scallop hand roll was good but probably not as enjoyable as the other dishes. It was my first time having wagu beef and it lived up to the hype. We ended with our fruit plate. I've been eyeing this place before COVID as its been recommended by my coworkers as the best sashimi/sushi they've had in the area. Before I knew it, they were closed for dine in, but avail not... they have takeout! Originally, we wanted come here to try their omakase but that is out of the question until they reopen dine in. We gave in and ended up ordering a bunch of sushi/sashimi and oh man, their presentation is on point. When we brought it home, we didnt need to re-plate and it was picture perfect already. In terms of the actual dishes, their toro appetizer is amazing. Fresh and delicious fatty tuna. Their davichi roll was full chunks of FRESH tuna used for spicy tuna rather then the left over minced tuna with excess filler of tempura other restaurants have. The tornetta roll had avocado that was so perfectly ripe, its like an avocado cream that melts in your mouth. The second time we ordered we got similar things + howie's roll, which had sea bass ontop. There was a slight fishy aftertaste, but aside from that the roll was spot on. New alaskan roll was average. A bit similar to a california in terms of crab + avocado + cucumber but better given real crab vs imitation and all the extra toppings e.g. Salmon, tempura flakes, spicy mayo. I personally have found bluefin's tuna dishes to be better than their salmon, which is a rare find in the states in my opinion. I guess their restaurant name doesnt lie. read more

This place knocked our socks off! Unpretentious restaurant in a strip mall not far from where my sister-in-law and brother-in-law live. They have raved about this place for a while, and we finally managed to join them for a Friday night sushi extravaganza. Their menu is chock-full of goodies and given our ravenous state, the 4 of us wanted to order everything. We scaled back and ordered hot appetizers, sushi pieces, and rolls to split. The rock shrimp "sundae" (served in a martini glass) was the perfect way to begin the evening. The special sushi roll of the night was a whopping $50, but worth it, no joke! It was topped with gold leaf (hence the price hike) along with layers and layers of buttery fish. It was a splurge and we loved every second of it. The toro was melt-in-your mouth divine, and even the fruit we were presented with at the end of our meal was sensational. The cantaloupe tasted as if it was grown out back (it wasn't). Service is a bit harried, but that works to your benefit if you want to take your time and enjoy not only your meal, but also your company. Reservations are a good idea, too. This joint was packed! BYOB and eons of parking out front in the lot. I only wish this restaurant was closer to where we live. Two thumbs up! read more

My friends have told me to experience this place. It was good but my wife made a big mistake. She asked the waiter what is good here. Then the waiter said I will take care of you. I told myself there goes my money. Yeah, the waiter gave us the e most expensive sushi. We had a party of five and the bill came out to be over $300. Never will go there again. Everything was so fresh and the combinations put into the special rolls are superb. You can tell the chef is crazy talented and just know how to blend things together. For $250, we pretty much had a bit of everything and there wasn't one single dish that I did not enjoy. I'm confident in saying that their entire menu is probably that good. My wife and I went here for dinner and had a great experience. Two things right off the bat - one, you should make a reservation because this place is packed for dinner, and rightfully so. And two, it's BYOB, so if you're looking to have a few drinks with dinner bring whatever you'd like. My wife and I didn't know either of these until we walked in. The staff was very friendly and explained that they were fully booked for the night but they might be able to squeeze us in if we didn't mind waiting. We were in no rush so we went to grab some beer and came back and waited until two seats opened up at the sushi counter. As we were waiting, we struck up conversation with a few people who were either leaving or waiting to pick up take out, and every single person said "wait it out, trust me it'll be worth it". They were right; I'm glad we waited it out, it was indeed well worth it. We ordered the chefs pork dumplings and the tako carpaccio right away, and followed it up with three or four delicious rolls of sushi - each with their own signature taste and texture. The chefs on the other side of the counter offered great recommendations and general conversation without missing a beat on preparing the next dish in front of them. 10/10, fantastic experience. My first time here for date night was great! My sister actually suggested we try this place because she had a good experience here as well with her fiancé. Everyone was super welcoming and friendly as soon as you walk inside. I know we had a table reserved for us that night but it was busy and they asked if we wanted to sit at the sushi bar and we agreed. I love sitting there while they make the foods though. Have not been back here in a year or so and while some of the items we liked (fried oysters) are gone, we are delighted by the new creations. Every specialty rolls were delicious with well balanced and diverse flavors. We especially enjoyed the spicy scallop hand roll, the Tako carpaccio, BNB and the New Alaskan roll. They were right though, this place is amazing. The servers were very friendly throughout our visit and regularly came over to refill my wife's water. We brought wine and they asked right away if we'd like an ice bucket for it. They also accommodated my wife's request for no fish eggs on the rolls without question. All positives. The food is what put this place over the top though. We both started with the house ginger salad which is always good. Then we ordered the scallop and lobster tempura. We got two piece of eggplant, two scallops, and two lobster claws that were broken into four parts (2 arms & 2 claws). All fried in tempura and bathing is what I think was a miso sauce. It was delicious. But the sushi was exceptional. We got three rolls to share. The MVP, the New Rainbow, and the Joffe (I'm assuming named after a family I know). Each roll was outstanding. Melt in your mouth good. You could taste every ingredient. The Joffe stole the show tho. That was probably one of my favorite rolls of all time. It's spicy tuna and shrimp tempura topped with avocado. So good we ordered another after we finished our platter of rolls. This place lived up to the hype. Really can't wait to go back. My wife is already asking me when I'm going to grab takeout here on my way home from work. I may have to soon. read more

And yes it keeps going to $$$ omakase in Seattle to $$$$$$ dollar omakase in Japan to having Jiro as your private chef but let's be honest, ain't nobody got that many dollar signs. The quality of ingredients is very solid for the price. And the service was top notch... staff was helpful and friendly, and our party of 7 were impressed at the way they were able to refill our waters from all sorts of challenging angles. My dumpling soup only came with 2 dumplings, but the broth was nice and light, and was filled with lots of seaweed and veggie. I got the Davitch special, as recommended by my foodie coworker. Fresh fish rolled on the inside, crunchy tempura flakes on the outside... delicious. Most others got a lunch special combination, and murmurs of praise for their meals were heard all around. Wasabi was suspected to be the not-out-of-tube-or-powder kind... bonus points for authenticity? A fruity surprise waited for us at the end... cut up cantelope paired with honey fried banana bites.
