She is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to babies and parenting. We crammed in so much helpful information in just two days! She provided handouts and was open to all questions and topic discussions. Hilary is absolutely incredible. To be quite honest, she was my first experience with a doula. I always had a misconception that doulas were against any sort of medication during the birthing process and always naively pictured home births in a bath tub ;) I was so wrong! Hilary is supportive of all kinds of birth plans. The great thing about her is she has experience in all of them and never passes judgement. We highly recommend taking these classes with her... whether you're novices like my husband and me, or pros like some of the other couples who also took the classes with us and equally found it incredibly helpful. She gave me one piece of tissue paper. Poor selection and rude service from a lazy salesperson. I will not be going back.

She is calming and kind, helpful and responsive, while also being effective as a guide when difficult decisions arise. After working with her during the birth of our daughter, I cannot imagine it being any different At first, I was a little wary of having a third person in the room during the birth, because I wanted to be the main source of support for my wife. But, at our first meeting, Afshan put those concerns to rest and continued to do so by truly serving as support for me and for my wife. She did what we needed to make sure the process was as smooth as possible, while making us both feel honored and vital. It was really great to have that kind of support so that if I needed a rest, I could do that and then come back as a better partner. In addition, having Afshan there with us was really helpful because of her excellent relationships with the staff at the hospital. The fact that she had worked with the nurses and doctors there was very helpful in relaying information, getting what we needed, and in working together as a team when it was time to push. Having Danielle as my doula made my entire pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience so much less…read morestressful than it could have or should have been. Danielle lives an hour away from me, but having her available to me through text for any question or concern no how small or silly, made it seem like she lived right next door. Sometimes weird or awkward things happen during pregnancy that you don't want to ask even the doctor and googling doesn't help, so having Danielle to talk it through with was so comfortable, just like having a friend with all the knowledge! Danielle was also there for my husband when I was in labor, reassuring him and helping him to know how to be there for me. Honestly the biggest help has been during the postpartum time, with all the things you go through plus having this little baby they send you home with, having someone you can reach out to for anything from how to do something to just the reassurance that your instincts are correct is so priceless. Once you get to know Danielle you know she isn't just doing this because it's her job, she truly cares about everyone she works with and becomes your friend in the process. And really who doesn't need another friend, especially while going through the most stressful most exhausting time of your life?

When it came time for labor, my son decided he wanted out rather quickly, so we unfortunately did not get to do most of the labor techniques we had planned, but I was home alone when I started labor and I progressed so quickly that the only person who made it to me in time to get me to the hospital was Chris, and thank heavens for that! Once we were at the hospital, she was an incredible advocate for me - I recall that she handled the hospital staff for me at every turn, so that I could focus on birthing my baby. Postpartum, she did my placenta preparation for me and has continued to be a source of friendship, support and encouragement. I recommend her with all my enthusiasm!
