Unlike Gamestop, they have a huge collection of both new and retro games in their store.. the prices varies A LOT as they do know the rarity of some games, especially if they're in mint condition. They also take all consoles and have services to fix them which I think is an amazing service to have as there aren't many locations that specialize in fixing game consoles. We brought our PS4 in to get cleaned & checked why it wasn't working right. Well what I didn't like is they say their technicians are from a third-party & aren't in. Then they say 1-2 days & if anything else is wrong they would get a hold of me well that didn't happen. I had to call to see what the holdup was. Apparently it needed something and they didn't let me know. Well, the part that I got was $80 that's kind of high price for what we had to get then when I got home apparently it wiped out our whole game. They didn't tell me that. We have store credit there but couldn't use it which I think is ridiculous. So if you buy anything from there just to let you know if you take it back, you have to get Store credit. Decent game selection but their prices are high. The absolute worst place for trades. Tried trading an Xbox system and they offered me very little. They said that other places like GameStop wouldn't offer me much more which was untrue. I went in to trade 4 n64 games and an n64 console and they lowballed me. They offered me less than 20% of what they sold the games for. They straight told me that they are worth $xxx amount but we are giving you $xx amount which was about 30% of what they were worth. They then tried to give me $10 for the console that they sold for over $150! Ridiculous! I am pleased with the service I received from the counter girl to the tech that tried to help me with a ps4 console. The tech powered up my console and tried to fix it right then and there! (It was stuck in safe mode and he tried to reinstall the software hoping to send me home with it same day.) However, he ended up diagnosing the console with needing a new hard drive; at which point it was checked in and he gave me a 24-48 hour turn around ETA. The $80 price (+$50 for the diagnosis) seemed reasonable to me considering I had no idea where else I'd take it to, and replacing it with a used one could come with the same or worse issues. Almost exactly 24 hours later, my console was ready to be picked up, and it works like it's brand new. Based on that one experience I will be back for any future diagnostics or repairs I need. Realizing they also repaired iPad screens, I returned with a pretty shattered one. They told me it was not replaceable because it was also bent down the middle. So I felt like they had integrity to not charge me for a new screen that wouldn't ultimately sit flush. read more

The Holy Grail of games for any game station! I Was looking for a game shop that sold PS3 move games. I called game station and they said they had one on hand but that they didn't really carry order games. So I looked on Yelp to see where everyone was going for their gaming needs. So happy I found this place! The prices for the games I purchased were so reasonable at $5-$8 a piece. They also offer a complimentary Red Bull with all purchases of $5 or more. Hiked 2 miles in a rush to get there before 7pm since the first associate I spoke with conveyed to me that I would need to be there by 7pm to sell my Xbox for cash. At 6:55pm I was in the parking lot on foot approaching the store and decided to call once more to assure them that I am less than 1 minute away only to be told by this other associate that for purchasing customer items I needed to be there by 630pm so that he can test the merchandise before buying it from me. This is completely understandable and I get it; people scam businesses quite frequently. What upsets me is that I hustled as fast as I could for 2 miles on foot carrying a video game console based on the information given by the first associate, only to basically be told the equivalent of "sorry pal, better luck next time" by the associate when I called just before 7pm. Therefore, my gripe does not lie with either of the two employees who answered the phone. I truthfully am most bothered by the inconsistency of information given to me within a mere 2 hour period over the phone. This type of problem lies squarely upon the owner/manager for neglecting to encourage consistency and adherence to uniform rules of the establishment. How is one expected to patronize an inconsistent establishment which degrades consumer confidence and sentiment? I hustled 2 miles on foot, in the dark, as an epileptic only to basically be told to kick rocks because the associate closing on this night made it quite clear with the nuance of his voice and demeanor that he wasn't about to work past 7pm regardless of whatever hardship or misinformation I endured prior to speaking with him alone. Perhaps he doesn't get paid what he thinks he's worth and doesn't feel that doing a little bit extra is worth it at this job. If that is in fact true then I can't bring myself to direct anger or frustration toward him, seeing as he likely has troubles of his own and doesn't have the energy nor wherewithal to bother with the likes of me. Around a month ago I came into the store to see if they could fix my Nintendo switch. I told them the system turned black and wouldn't turn on . They assured Me they could fix it . A $45 non refundable payment went towards checking it out . After the diagnosis they said I need a new chip and another part. $120 I said ok let's move forward and fix it. After many many phone calls and techs speaking to Me in language I don't understand(tech) they finally come to conclusion it cannot be fixed. Two employees assured me I would get refunded for the parts because it couldn't be fixed. I go in today and they tell me it's just total complete loss on my end. I lost my switch and money. This is the worst games store I've ever been to I bought 3 games 2 didn't download and the other one is perfect. They have a no cash back policy which is fine if the games actually worked. When you buy a game on the receipt they circle the line no cash back and they don't tell you before you buy them. This place has it all! Old nostalgic systems and collectibles galore, and for reasonable pricing. I purchased an old Game Boy, several games, a PS2, and still wanted to buy more. The manager and operator was a knowledgeable dude. He knew the background of each piece of gear and how to maintain it. If he didn't have an item I was looking for, he knew how to get it. I brought in a Game Boy Advanced SP that wouldn't charge, and he replaced the battery (with a newer model, essentially upgrading it) and hooked me up with an original charger. With that being said, I have had multiple bad experiences at this location. I met a owner and he was very friendly and helpful but as soon as the place is left in the hands of whomever they hire, the service tanks. I paid $125 for an HDMI port repair on a PS4, which I picked up on July 6th, 8 weeks ago. Upon pick up I was told the repair has a 1-year warranty. This weekend the HDMI port stopped working again. I took the console back to Blue Shell Gaming and informed a representative, Cesar, of the issue and that I was told the repair had a 1-year warranty. Cesar confirmed the issue and stated he would call his manager "to see what he could do". After speaking with his manager Cesar stated the repair was only good for 30 days. I asked to see a copy of their written warranty and was told there isn't a written warranty. I asked to speak with his manager or for a phone number to speak with the manager. Cesar called his manager, Kevin, who refused to speak with me and stated he would be in the store tomorrow at noon. I am extremely unhappy with the inconsistency and lack of customer service provided. read more

When my Wii decided to eat and scratch up the first disc of my Baten Kaitos Origins game to the point that it was unreadable by both the Wii and GameCube, I was devastated. Luckily, Blue Shell offers extremely affordable disc resurfacing (only $5!) and it was my best chance to get it fixed instead of rebuying the game. I got the disc back (took a week cause the machine is at the Madera location) looking brand new and IT WORKS! My GameCube is able to read the disc again with no problem. Overall, beyond fantastic repair job and customer service. I've also bought older handheld and console games in the past from here and have never been disappointed. Great selection and I can't recommend them enough! read more

My son received a PS3 from his uncle. We went to get new controllers and he picked out a new game as well, Skylanders. I told the clerk (a young dark haired gentleman) that I didn't know anything about a PS3 nor the game he wanted. He spent a few minutes looking it up to make sure we had all the right accessories, which we didn't. I've bought a PS one, Gameboy pocket, Gameboy micro, Gameboy SP all from this place and all kinds of games for each system. Every time I go in they have something new added to their selection. And the atmosphere is way chill. These guys are totally laid back. No pressure to buy anything. Heck I've come in a few times just to browse the selection and everyone is cool. When I bought my Gameboy SP system, the charger that comes with the system was faulty so I took it back in the same day and dude running the shop was like here man here's a travel charger until we can get you another one ordered. And it really saves me time from ordering online. I was happy that I finally purchased a NES system from them for $75 with everything it needs to start playing. And took $8 off any game I buy with the system. I believe it was well worth it to me. But I'll be honest sometimes their Old retro games are a bit too pricey so I begin to scratch my head and find it odd. For instance, I saw they were selling Donkey Kong Country 2 for SNES for $45... That's when it hit me because I go on amazon and even GameStop and it sells for around $20-$25... But I'm happy I got to the bottom of it and was able to negotiate with them and they're very open to it which is a big deal to me because I'm always on a budget. They tried to sell me Kirby's Avalanche for $30 then I looked it up and saw it was selling for $9.99 so I brought that up to their attention and they saw for themselves online and were shocked. And their response was "OK your right, bit you gotta understand that we gotta make money on selling it. So I'll drop it to $15" which made me happy because they were reasonable and what impressed me more that made me wanna come back is when he said, "sorry about that idk who priced them, but we don't wanna rip anyone off we want you guys to come back to us!!" Used to be very good when it first opened around 2 years ago. Since then, it has gone way downhill. Example: I got Ocarina of time for like 24 bucks the first time I went there, now it is at least a 40 or 50 dollar game there. Games like mariokart and smash bros are 60-75 bucks at the store but are 40-50 on eBay. I understand that retro game prices fluctuate but they don't go up THAT much in a year. Honestly, I think they just charge higher because they don't think customers will notice and for a lot of people it works. I always google the games I consider buying at blue shell and the eBay prices are always considerably less, often times 10-20 bucks. In my humble opinion I'd rather buy games on eBay or flea markets where I can get a better deal and Nintendo cartridge games are virtually indestructible if you know how to clean them (another thing blue shell doesn't do a good job of, have bought a few popular n64 games that were very dirty when I took them home. Btw: the whole idea that they clean systems before selling is complete and utter BS. Sucks we don't really have a good retro gaming store that is honest. read more

Ehhh... nothing impressive or anything to where I'm dying to comeback. They say there prices are cheaper then GameStop witch is BS because I look up used games every time I'm there and GameStop is always cheaper. Pretty much one of the only retro stores in Fresno Clovis area so anything retro gaming related better believe they are capitalizing and charging collector price if not a few dollers more on basic common original games. You can pretty much find every single item in there store cheaper online other then the 1$ comics and few vintage toys. Went consistently for about 2 months and rarely seen any new retro games, always same old ones just rearranged. I gave it 2 stars simply because they are the only store really who sells retro gaming games and consoles. Staff not the friendliest unless your one of there butt buddies coming to hang out for free. Seriously thinking of never wasting my time there again. I might go one or two more times if it's the same story it has been the past few times I most likely will never return to this place again.
