New to the Keyport area, my girlfriend and I stopped by this place one day after work. We were recommended by friends to give this place a shot. Right off the bat, I felt good vibes here. They have a large bar area and 2 pool tables. Plus the staff were super friendly. They have awesome beer specials that are very affordable. After having a few drinks, we ordered some food. We went with the cheese bar pie to start. The pizza here was very good. Nice and thin, as well as crispy. Just the way a bar pie should be. I really enjoyed their pizza. Then, we had a cheeseburger and chicken fingers. The burger was great, and chicken fingers were just as good. I liked their bbq sauce they used. Overall, this was a fun spot to hangout, have some drinks, and eat some food. read more

Not only have I had hundreds of delicious and fresh meals there, I've laughed, I've cried, I've learned life lessons, and I've taught some. We love visiting here in the summer. They have a great little tiki bar on the outside and it has lots of atmosphere. This source is amazing . We've had many different dishes here and love everything they serve. One of my favorites is their clam chowder and the other is there sauce with clams you are actually want to drink it. They have a pool table there and people are casual and friendly. read more

My review is strictly about the bar and the bands. I came here with friends to see a band called Southern Steel. They don't play often in my area so I decided to check out Blue Rock Cafe. As I entered I noticed they have two bars in the main area. A large bar as you walk in and a single bar on the other side of the room. Intermittently, are some large dining tables. And out on their patio is another bar where the smokers can go. Boaters can pull up and dock here and go in for drinks and food. It's located on the Matawan River. This place is nothing fancy. It has an old country feel to it. The staff was really nice. I was very impressed by the bouncers. They were friendly, and very organized. There was a drunk woman near us who tried to start a fight, and they surrounded her in seconds. They took control of what could've been a bad situation but they handled it perfectly. All in all the band was a lot of fun there was plenty of room for dancing, and everyone had a great time. It was ugly sweater night with prizes. They make decent drinks and their pretty reasonable.They serve single and doubles. I chose to drink club soda because I was the DD and the bartenders were fine with that. Parking is somewhat limited this place is on the water. I hear they serve Colossal shrimp cocktail and some other foods like burgers, chicken wings, chicken fingers and some seafood and salads. What a fun place, with a warm hometown kinda vibe, cold beer and good food. View of the bay/marina, outdoor bar and seating, lots of bar seating inside and restaurant area too. Good mix of music playing, very friendly bartenders. Came here for the day. Here for the night for a concert. Googled a nearby place by beach for some food and drinks. This place is a hidden gem. Dive local bar, but clean, well lit, people came With families for lunch, diverse crowd at bar. Came here at noon and didn't leave until 4. Calamari was really good, so were nachos. We are from town and always try to support our local restaurants and business! Today Sunday at around 5:25pm we decided to stop by at the Blue Rock Cafe for some cold drinks. We arrived and there was no one at the entrances Of the restaurant to give any directions (of course it was packed) we proceeded to go to the inside to ask for some type of directions- first thing we hear is a waitress behind the bar making drinks who started to yell "You can't be here" with such an attitude (we had our masks on). Our first impression was Who are you speaking to? We are not no animals ! I've been to the Blue Rock many many times and the food and service are decent. Nothing to write home about, but a good place to stop for a bite to eat on the water. Today, we waited 15 minutes to get a table since we didn't have a reservation, no big deal. The table and seats did not seem to be cleaned, which is concerning considering the current COVID situation. What bothers me is that we were seated for 25 minutes two tables away from the door and countless servers made eye contact without ever stopping by to take a drink order or even let us know they will be with us shortly. I've been to plenty of other restaurants for outdoor dining during all this and have had no similar experiences. Maybe I'll give them another try when indoor dining opens up again. Great food, friendly staff. Service can be a little slow at times when you're sitting at a table outside, but always fast at the outside bar. Live bands on weekends with a cover charge. The view is nothing spectacular but the food is what brings us back time after time. The New England Clam chowder is the best I've ever had. (Not pictured) French Onion soup is amazing! I get the snow crab leg entree every time, and my other half gets the Pasta Vodka with shrimp. Both are delicious. Stop by this place and ask for Brit to be your waitress if she's working. Stopped in Thursday lunchtime after a fishing trip with 3 friends. Bar was pretty busy with an older crowd. Lots of Dolphin and Rangers memorabilia kept the boss happy, but the best bit was the $8.99 handwritten lunch specials... Braised lamb shanks, bacon wrapped scallops, stroganoff. Wow - Amazing value! Spent way more time, and way less $ than I expected. Super nice bar staff (Bree) brought my forgotten phone out to me in the parking lot. We weren't actually heading here to eat. The plan was to go to a seafood place down the road, but they were closed. Passed this place on the way to that place and saw it was open so I suggested to dad that we go try it. Small adventures are fun. I wonder if crabs know how good they taste. Seafood was on our minds and I'm happy to report that this place was good. We knew nothing about it walking in, but were happy with full tummies walking out. Started out with an order of Steamers. This was on the $5 menu which I imagine changes daily. It seemed like every table had at least one order. Next up we each had a cup of soup. I went with the New England clam chowder (chowdah?) and dad went with Manhattan. Mine was nice and thick and full of clams. Finally we each had the Monday daily special. Choice of King or Soft Shell crabs. We both had the Soft Shell. That with a choice of a baked potato or fries make a rather large meal. All for only $13.95. The portion was huge and time consuming to eat, but once I was able to get inside, the meat was super sweet and very fresh tasting. Oh, mama. Service was very prompt and nice. This is a good people watching place. You could definitely feel NJ coming out of here. Local crowd. There are good times to be had at the Blue Rock Cafe! Let me start by saying that this is a dive bar with casual food ranging from "never having that again" to "damn, that chowder was delicious". It's not fine dining so don't expect that. The "after Sandy" remodel has opened the space up for pool tables and a second bar area. Neither bar area is huge but they serve the purpose. It's full of locals so be prepared to fit in or stay to yourselves... Your group won't be taking over this place. All four of my stars are for the super-divey outdoor back bar. There are a few seats and a few tables and if you're lucky enough to score one of those, your night is sure to be fun. It's like sitting around having a few drinks on your own back deck. The service is hit or miss but when your drink eventually gets filled it's strong and mixed well. Grab a sweatshirt and your least judgmental buddy and have some fun. I have enjoyed over 20 years of excellent food and service at this establishment . I had the greatest opportunity to work for these people who I literally love as family now. Even though I do not work for this family anymore I can hands down say it is by far our favorite place to get the freshest seafood. This restaurant has the most gorgeous views. It's located right on the water so if you are at the outside bar you can look out on the bay and all the sailboats. It really is a sight to be seen. As for the food, it's deeeeeelicous! My girlfriend and I were celebrating our 2 year anniversary and decided to go back to the place we had our first date. Safe to say we had a seafood feast! We each started with a cup of the New England clam chowder which is stuffed to capacity with yummy clams. Next was the Maine little neck steamers. These were perfectly steamed and in combination with the butter sauce they were the perfect light start to our main course. Finally, I had the king crab leg dinner and my lady the snow crab legs. Both were out of this world!!!! We couldn't get the meat out of the claws fast enough. Every bite was fantastic. Paired with a pitcher of light beer, we left the restaurant feeling perfectly full and satisfied. Not only was the food spot on but the service too. I wish we took down our servers name she was so attentive and timed our meal perfectly. Overall, great experience!!!
