Tell him Greg sent you! I got the "My Son We to California" omelet! Everything was fresh! The Avacodo and tomatoes was amazing! The grits they prepare in Greek style is to die for! Perfectly cook and creamy! Not dry or runny! Next was "Create Your Own Grit Bowl"! Bacon, tomatoes, feta cheese, and more fresh ingredients!! Next was Chicken and Waffles! So good! I bought 2 coffee mugs that are green with Ted's in them for my home it was so good! Here is a Greek style to this little gem and I would HIGHLY recommend a stop on a Saturday Brunch. They are open until 2pm. This was my 3rd stop and my favorite on Saturday after market! Enjoy! 10% off if you pay with cash! Taso if you are reading this big Kudos Sir!!!

We arrived fairly early, shortly after opening, but the place was already bustling and the hot bar was full of yummy-looking and smelling food. It has a pleasant, sort of old-timey feel, which makes sense given it's been open since the 70s. This is a "Greek and three," fairly common in Bham, so they offer country cooking favorites like fried chicken in addition to Greek foods like souvlaki. You order as you move through the line in front of the hot bar. The food is protected from guests by glass so it doesn't feel as icky as a buffet does (to me, at least). The folks working the hot bar were pleasant and working diligently. There was one waitress who was suuuuper bossy and a little short with me (she really didn't want me to stand still and look at a paper menu, apparently), but she eventually warmed to us after my dad chatted her up while she was getting our drinks. I ordered fried chicken with yams and fried okra. My mom also got fried chicken, hers with mashed potatoes and cabbage. My dad tried the baked Greek chicken with green beans and macaroni and cheese. I snagged a roll and a sweet tea to drink. The tea was refreshing and not overly sweet. The food was overwhelmingly quite solid. My fried chicken breast wasn't ready when I ordered it so I had to wait a while for it to be prepared, but on the bright side it arrived piping hot and super crispy. It was great fried chicken, clearly brined and flavorful throughout, not just on the crunchy batter. The yams were nicely spiced and not overly soft. The fried okra was a delight as well, crispy and plentiful. The roll was average, but nbd. My parents were also quite happy with their meals. My mom RAVED about the cabbage and ate all her mashed potatoes and gravy. The macaroni and cheese was outstanding (I wish I'd gotten three sides and it been my third). The Greek chicken was succulent and light. The only so-so item was the green beans, and even those were decent. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Birmingham! One of the better meat and twos/threes I've had in a while.

I initially visited as part of an assignment, but after this experience, I will definitely be back. The dining hall serves students and campus facilities and is a convenient, well-organized option for lunch on campus. Before visiting, I reviewed the lunch menu online, which made the experience even smoother because I knew exactly what to expect. I chose The Den and ordered a chipotle bacon cheeseburger all the way with no bun, LOL and French fries, and it did not disappoint. The burger was hot, flavorful, and well-prepared, and the fries were crispy and fresh a classic meal done right that never fails. The atmosphere was clean and efficient, and everything moved quickly, which is great when you're on a lunch break or between classes. Overall, Common on the Green exceeded my expectations for a campus dining hall. What started as a required visit turned into a place I'd happily return to again.

Unfortunately, the food at the Commons does not provide quality, reliable food, and usually leaves me disappointed. As someone who has been eating at the Commons for many years, my friends and I often joke about how the Commons will disappoint us tonight, a feeling that resonates across much of the student body. In addition to this, eating at the Commons with dietary restrictions often leaves much to be desired, for example, tonight, when I ate at the only bluntly stated vegetarian option was a tofu with vegetables that had been wilted to the point of being inedible. As a result, I often find myself eating exclusively at the salad bar, like I did tonight. On a positive note, the Commons does a great job at consistently stocking its salad bar and keeping it relatively clean. For items that can become unsanitary quickly, the Commons employees are vigilant in keeping the salad bar clean for students. The staff is all extremely kind, especially Ms. Robin, who works at the front checking students into The Commons. She remembers my name and always greets every student with a smile. The staff, in general, adds a lot of value to the Commons and makes the Commons an enjoyable experience. Specifically, tonight, they were hosting a karaoke night, which I personally found to be a bit overstimulating. It was difficult to have conversations with my friends and talk at a reasonable volume. While I do not frequent the Commons often, I hope that this was a one-time event, as I do enjoy going for dinner occasionally, but I don't really enjoy listening to karaoke while eating my salad bar. Overall, in terms of a campus dining hall, I think that there are better options on campus, but they do provide students with the nutritious ingredients they need to be functional and successful in classes, especially freshmen who do not have access to a kitchen. As someone with a kitchen, I find myself choosing other options on campus when given the choice, but I do find myself craving a salad bar and French fries every so often.

Once inside, you get a tray and slide it down the line while picking what you wanted. I ended up ordering the grilled chicken plate, which came with two sides and choice of bread. The most standout items to me were the grilled chicken and jalapeño cornbread. I was surprised at how juicy and flavorful their grilled chicken tenders were, and the cornbread had a good amount of spice. The other standout aspect was their incredible service. Although you get your own food, our server was extremely attentive, asking if there was anything we needed and refilling our drinks every ten minutes. Everyone was also extremely kind and welcoming, and you could tell how much they care about getting to know their customers. There is also a drive thru if you are looking for a quick homestyle meal. I was fortunate enough to not only find a parking spot but also for my visit to coincide with the Meatloaf Daily Special (Wednesday). I was further blessed with a thick slice of a perfectly seasoned meatloaf with the perfect consistency that held together but remained fork tender. The only thing that wasn't perfect about it was just a touch too much of the ketchup based sauce. The sides I chose of green beans and macaroni & cheese were good as well but not at the same level as the meatloaf. Same with the cornbread. I got the regular version this visit but if you like a little heat the jalapeño cornbread version is better. Service is attentive and Laurie made sure I had everything I needed. I will be back (gotta remember Wednesday)!

I am so very glad that this restaurant came across something I was looking at recently. I popped on in on a Wednesday to see what I could see. I was pleased. Liver and onions will always put a smile on my face! I love a good meat and two cafeteria vibe. I had fried green tomatoes & turnips. Both sides were outstanding. Now what I did not like what that rice! Way too much butter but I do believe it was still on stand by from breakfast. I really appreciate the nice lady getting it for me so that's really why I didn't refuse it. The service was really nice and friendly by all the staff. I loved my food. I loved the sweet tea ( with lemons). And I looooved the cherry / pineapple cobbler I had to go. It's tastes like nothing I've ever had before. Fortunately they did and I got a good size portion of chick and dressing, cranberry sauce, creamed corn and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. I wish I could have gotten less starches but I'm grateful for the pick up nonetheless. What I'm curious about.., Why the use of tumeric in the chicken and dressing? I was born and raised in the Ham so I'm used to the way we normally do it. The look threw me off. It was as if yellow food coloring was used. The chicken was overdone as well. If not for these two, I would have given this a 5 star. But I can't get over the yellow.

I also got collards and cornbread dressing & yes they had cranberry sauce. Everything was good tasting. The meatloaf was a little sweet to my taste so I probably wouldn't order it again. The veggies were not over seasoned or overcooked. I will definitely comeback here bc there is still just so much I wanna try. The staff is nice and took care of the crowd. I even witnessed them give a person in need food, as they were about to dig in the restaurant's garbage can outside for scraps. Made me count my blessings.. all of them! There is street parking only. A la cart is available as well. They have ice tea or lemonade drinks in a cup that they also serve you. Lemonade was good. There's a very small counter to pay after you order. Fry chicken is tasty with perfect crisp. Collard greens were seasoned well and perfect texture. Yams (my favorite) was perfect - flavorful, not too sweet and firm but not hard. Both of us thought the Black eyed peas looked really good but taste bland. I would have preferred it without the Okra. I didn't see that when I ordered. One in our group commented the meat loaf was good. The dressing was really good too - well seasoned and tasty. After paying there's a dining area for self seating. It serves the purpose to sit and eat but definitely could use sprucing up along with the restrooms. Please seriously consider! It would make the experience much more pleasant to enjoy their delicious food. I took off two stars for that reason and yes it's that unpleasant as the tables/chairs are also too clustered together. The chairs don't fit around the table properly. Overall good southern food at a reasonable price and recommended. Skip dining in if you don't have too. Just my two cents.

When you walk in, you're greeted with a warm welcome and transported into an old, cozy cafe in a small French town. Our waitress, Holly, was delightful and knowledgeable about the menu. I started with a Pimm Rose Spritz and thought it was light and refreshing - I was afraid it'd taste like an Aperol spritz but it didn't - no bitterness at all. Mom got an alpine daiquiri and raved about it. We opted for escargots, a fresh baguette, and marinated olives as apps and couldn't have loved them more. The bread was warm and made a nice vehicle for the garlic sauce leftover from the escargots. I got the trout amandine and it was as divine as I remember. I had this dish back in 2020 (I know that specifically because we had to sit outside in a plastic tent to dine here) and have been thinking about it ever since. Would highly recommend. The trout is buttery and flaky and has a light almond-like sauce with slivered almonds on top. Mom got the roasted chicken and veggies and loved how it was cooked to perfection. Everything is so simple yet exquisite. Parking wasn't a huge issue, especially for it being downtown. There are spots in front of the building that you pay for on an app (it was $2) and they offered valet as well. I would absolutely have a reservation (it may even be required). We went on a Tuesday at 4:45 and it was packed by 5. We will be back time and time again!
