The food was excellent but the portions were a joke. My mom and I are both gluten intolerant so we opted for the GF bread (which she did mention was small) and I said I didn't mind eating the meat that fell off the bread and she looked at me funny. Once the food arrived, I understood why. The entire sandwich was MAYBE 3 inches long and they only filled it w enough chicken salad to fit the bread. And these were nearly $10 sandwiches! I wish I'd gotten a picture but was so shocked they would present this to us as an acceptable portion I immediately went back and requested additional side of chicken salad that equated to the normal portion. I could never have consciously served someone that size food for what they paid. On the other hand, the food was good and the creamy jalapeño soup was TO DIE FOR! Just hope they can figure out a solution to the portions. Especially if you're going to charge extra for GF bread. read more

This is a serious sandwich shop. They take care an attention in building their sandwiches. The meat is piled high and the flavors are spot on. Loved the Ruben sandwich. I came from Austin to visit my good friends in Goliad over the weekend and they took me here for lunch!! I enjoyed the Reuben on gluten free bread and the Jalapeno Sausage Soup! Everything was amazing, staff is super sweet and kind, overall just a really good experience. I'd definitely love to come back next time I come to visit!! Thanks for the great food!! read more

EXPENSIVE!! ($50) For lunch. Hot pastrami tough with stringy white things. We had 2 orders, neither of us desired to try and finish it. Three it away. Waste of our money.To expensive for food. Maybe it was an off day for food quality. Hopefully, if you go, your experience will be better read more

Stopping here after a team building event. We had about 50 people and I was very impressed. 1. Food was great. I had the famous soup, deli sandwich, and pecan bread pudding. 2. We all ordered and ate in less than an hour with three nice ladies being the only personnel on staff. 3. Clean. Historic (makes a difference because that is why a lot of people visit here). Hats off. I had a very tasty pastrami sandwich with smoked provolone on toasted marble rye bread with some Miss Vickies jalapeño kettle chips. I was given a small sample of their famous cream of jalapeño soup. Even though I'm not a fan of creamy soups I tried it and it tasted very good. What a disappointment! After seeing this restaurant featured on the show Texas Bucket List, we were determined to take a motorcycle ride out there, and try their cream of jalapeño soup. After waiting an hour and twenty minutes for the food, which was a whopping $50 for two sandwiches, two soups, two iced teas and two TINY Dixie cups of bread pudding, we figured, well, it should be worth the wait. WRONGO! The Reuben was a balled up mess of gristly meat with undrained sauerkraut sogging up all the bread, ruining whatever flavor might have been there, although no flavor was detected. The other, a "deluxe" chicken breast panini, was probably the worst sandwich I've ever had. Thin, slimy chicken, with a pile of even slimier onions and an unidentified circle of an unidentifiable meat (see pics below) color of bacon, shaped like processed ham, inedible either way. The famous soup was ok, but after it cooled down, about halfway through the bowl, it was not good enough to finish. I'd suggest getting only a cup of it, if you MUST go here. Understaffing happens, but expensive crap food is another matter altogether. In addition, not a single table was being bussed, so you had to clean off your own table, then sit tight, almost elbow to elbow with other diners. Bad enough when COVID wasn't a thing, but now? Where was management? NY prices, dollar store quality. Will NEVER be back. In hindsight we should have gone to the nearby Subway ... better food at much better prices. read more

Consistently delicious foods! This deli has been serving lucky Goliad citizens in the same location since 2000. You'll be pleasantly greeted by Patty or one of the great staff as you enter her sparkling clean deli. We love their inventive and scrumptious soups, homemade rye, wheat, sourdough (and more) breads, salads, panini, or burgers. Chicken salad is yummy! And the Cream of Jalapeño Soup is the best in Texas according to me and that little ol' Texas Monthly magazine. Ask for a sample if you're not sure you can handle it. No shame here! read more

Stopping in Goliad for a quality picturesque lunch. If you don't want Mexican or fast food, this is the place. Thick tasted sandwiches of all kinds. Hearty soups are good. For $4.99 I got there signature Jalapeño cream soup. It's delicious. For $7.99 I got a chef salad with healthy servings of spring mix greens, meats, cheeses, egg, tomatoes, etc. it's delicious too. Enjoy the sidewalk seating or window seating for the view of the beautiful courthouse and town square. City slickers will appreciate parking right in front of the building. It's a block off 59, but you have to know to turn on Commerce st. Or you'll miss downtown Goliad. read more

I just will start with, check out the special of the day. It's a great value and usually a unique sandwich combination, soup and dessert. They literally ran out as I step up to the register. But they were very apologetic. So I tried the cream of jalapeño soup! That was worth the stop alone! The homemade bread for the sandwiches was a refreshing delight. The sandwiches are good, but it's just too pricey. 3 small sandwiches was over $30, with no drinks. I understand the ingredients are good, they may bake some of the bread etc. would be nice to have some cheaper kids options. The jalepeno soup is good, but they are just too proud of it. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Goliad. The bread bowl with jalapeño soup is so good. Yesterday it seemed better than usual. We try to make it to Goliad at least once a month to eat there. Everything my husband has eaten there is delicious. I always get the bread bowl The people are the nicest. It is a relaxed all home town restaurant. You always feel welcome there. If you've never been there, you should make the effort and go. Looks like can only do one review. In that case, this is still my fav!!!! read more

Love, love, love the Cream of Jalapeno soup! We arrived on a Saturday just as they opened and the smell of fresh bread coming out of the oven greeted us. Hello! Husband had a club sandwich and shared a portion so I could sample: cheese slices were hearty, meat portions were generous-very tasty, but truly the soup is enough for me! Raspberry sweet tea is also perfect. Please try it. Goliad and the Blue Quail Deli make a great destination lunch spot. There are shops on the square, lots of history in the area and at only about an hour from Corpus, the soup alone is worth the drive. I heard about this place when working an hour away. They said I HAD to eat here when coming here. And I'm glad I did. I had half a ham sammich and a cup of jalepeño soup. I could have had a gallon of the soup and died happy. It was perfectly spicy. Everything on the sandwich was as fresh as it gets. And the ladies there were amazingly nice. I was visiting my god mom this past week, and she had been telling me about this cream of jalapeño soup from a deli in town. We had lunch here on Thursday and it was crazy delicious! Do yourself a favor and take the time to come by here on your way through town. I started this review while already eating my reuben sandwich. The reuben was going to be the star of this review, however I had a bite of my wife's jalapeño soup that she ordered. Wow. This soup is ridiculous good. The sandwich was divine as well. They have a nice store, it's a little more than a convenient store and bakery. There's all types of homemade pastries of breads along with a deli. I enjoy stopping here. It's just hard to pick out what you want cause I would like to have one of everything. Once you're able to pick out what you want the trick is getting it to a destination without you eating all of it. I have to put it in the back on the floorboard so it's out of my reach.

So, when co-workers wanted to go yesterday, I jumped on it. Don't get me wrong. I love the vibe of this place. I LOVE their story. It's very NY/Northeastern deli feel (they're from Pittsburgh, but you get my drift, right!?). No nonsense. Small inside area. No tables inside. Just enough room to look at the menu, order, and go wait outside. I opted for the chicken bacon ranch on hoagie. What came out was a decent size sandwich, but incredibly messy and soggy. There was so much juice/ liquid the sandwich quickly became unmanageable and just disintegrated. Look, if you're going to serve a sandwich that messy, please upgrade your napkins. It was a one bite - two napkin ratio. The sandwich was good, but the mess and difficulty eating it just took away any enjoyment. Additionally, the flies outside rivaled the worst I've experienced. Do you remember the scene in the Lost World, Jurassic Park movie when the hunters found the Rex nest!? Okay, okay, maybe not that bad, but it was a lot. Hang some fly bags or strips or somethin'. Found price to be a little high. By the time I bought chips and a drink, plus tip: $22. Just FYI: my co-worker disagrees. He thought it was the BEST SANDWICH HE'D EVER HAD. So, yes, go give them a try, but bring a beach towel for clean up.
