Gluten Free Bread, Reuben, Jalapeno Sausage Soup
    Marleigh J.

I came from Austin to visit my good friends in Goliad over the weekend and they took me here for lunch!! I enjoyed the Reuben on gluten free bread and the Jalapeno Sausage Soup! Everything was amazing, staff is super sweet and kind, overall just a really good experience. I'd definitely love to come back next time I come to visit!! Thanks for the great food!!

Unidentifiied meat: color of bacon, shaped like ham, inedible either way.

What a disappointment! After seeing this restaurant featured on the show Texas Bucket List, we were determined to take a motorcycle ride out there, and try their cream of jalapeño soup. After waiting an hour and twenty minutes for the food, which was a whopping $50 for two sandwiches, two soups, two iced teas and two TINY Dixie cups of bread pudding, we figured, well, it should be worth the wait. WRONGO! The Reuben was a balled up mess of gristly meat with undrained sauerkraut sogging up all the bread, ruining whatever flavor might have been there, although no flavor was detected. The other, a "deluxe" chicken breast panini, was probably the worst sandwich I've ever had. Thin, slimy chicken, with a pile of even slimier onions and an unidentified circle of an unidentifiable meat (see pics below) color of bacon, shaped like processed ham, inedible either way. The famous soup was ok, but after it cooled down, about halfway through the bowl, it was not good enough to finish. I'd suggest getting only a cup of it, if you MUST go here. Understaffing happens, but expensive crap food is another matter altogether. In addition, not a single table was being bussed, so you had to clean off your own table, then sit tight, almost elbow to elbow with other diners. Bad enough when COVID wasn't a thing, but now? Where was management? NY prices, dollar store quality. Will NEVER be back. In hindsight we should have gone to the nearby Subway ... better food at much better prices.

Pastrami sandwich with smoked provolone on toasted marble rye bread with Mrs. Vickys jalapeño kettle chips.

I had a very tasty pastrami sandwich with smoked provolone on toasted marble rye bread with some Miss Vickies jalapeño kettle chips. I was given a small sample of their famous cream of jalapeño soup. Even though I'm not a fan of creamy soups I tried it and it tasted very good. The staff and helpful as it was my first time eating there and the young man who made my sandwich did a great job!

Blue Quail Deli is a jackpot restaurant in the small town of Goliad! More people need to hit this place up!! I'll be back for sure. Everyone talks about the jalapeño soup and it was great, so yes, you need to at least try it. But you also need to have a BLT. Yes, other places have BLTs but Blue Quail's is amazing!! Just what I was craving. Thank you!!

Stopping in Goliad for a quality picturesque lunch. If you don't want Mexican or fast food, this is the place. Thick tasted sandwiches of all kinds. Hearty soups are good. For $4.99 I got there signature Jalapeño cream soup. It's delicious. For $7.99 I got a chef salad with healthy servings of spring mix greens, meats, cheeses, egg, tomatoes, etc. it's delicious too. Enjoy the sidewalk seating or window seating for the view of the beautiful courthouse and town square. City slickers will appreciate parking right in front of the building. It's a block off 59, but you have to know to turn on Commerce st. Or you'll miss downtown Goliad.

Ordering first, get your own drink, pick up a desert (included with meal) and sit down in the rustic themed dining area. We got there early so it wasn't crowded....yet. A very reasonable short wait and our food was brought out....a lot of it. The portions are very generous. I got brisket, sausage, pinto beans and potato salad. Wife got a beef rib, sausage and the same sides. To be very frank, two people could split one plate and be very satisfied. A desert is included and the choices were a couple of different cobblers and two or three pudding varieties. The meats: OMG. The beef rib slipped out of the meat when my wife picked up the bone. What remained on the plate could be cut with her plastic spoon. Smokey, SUPER tender and just glorious. The brisket was just as tender--cutting not really needed. It pulls apart. And like the rib, flavor on point...just incredible smokey meat flavor. I went in hungry and could only eat half of my order. The sausage was just as wonderful with a firm snap of the casing without being chewy. We both thought the potato salad was one of the best BBQ joint potato salads we've had. I thought the beans (a bit of BBQ flavor) were a little spicy, wife didn't think so at all. Even the onions and pickles were top notch....they make their own pickles. The drive from Corpus was to go here. We didn't have any other reason to go to Woodsboro or the area. TOTALLY worth the drive and if you're simply in the Refugio/Woodsboro area...this is THE place to go. And as a grocery/meat market...quaint with some of the friendliest people you're likely to meet. The meat deals they offer look great. We WILL DEFINITELY make the drive again. BTW, we've got enough leftovers for another full meal each. (I ate my leftovers on Monday for lunch, reheated it's just as tender and flavorful.) What a treasure Woodsboro has in Tuttles!
