Good teachers, nice atmosphere, a well managed studio. Over the past 9 years my body has greater ease; my strength continues to improve.

Let me start by saying I am not a regular participant in yoga classes. I decided to try out their prenatal yoga class when I no longer could comfortably participate in my other workouts like spin classes. I was just beginning my third trimester when I attended a prenatal class, and it was really challenging for me. Some of the poses we were in were pretty much impossible for me because of how swollen my legs were or how heavy my stomach felt. I had to do a lot of modifications. The instructor did come over a few times and assisted with providing alternative poses/stretches, but I felt pretty discouraged since I seemed to be the only one in the room unable to do a lot. I do want to note that I was one of the furthest along in this class, and many of the others were still in various stages of their first and second trimesters. One thing I did find different about this yoga class was that there was no background music, and it was hard for me to drown out the other class going on in the room next door and the traffic on the street outside. Yoga classes I have taken at other places had some very light, soothing background music. I had purchased the deal for new student special for unlimited classes for 21 days, but unfortunately did not return because it just seemed to be too much for my body. I think this may have been different if I was a person that regularly attended yoga classes... read more

If you're looking for prenatal yoga, you have to try Blue Point. I attended as many classes as I could during my third trimester because the gentle stretching and relaxation had such a positive effect on me. Andrea and Abby are both excellent instructors with their own unique approaches. Doing prenatal yoga helped ease my hip and lower back pain, and also helped me emotionally to let go of stress and anxiety. I only wish they offered more classes! I preferred the Geer Street studio location because it's so beautiful, but I only made it to one class there because it's offered at 4:15 on Mondays and it was too hard to leave work that early. read more

Blue Point has some really excellent teachers and a pretty extensive schedule. It's located in a complex that looks a little prefab, but the inside is open, light, and clean, so don't let the outside make you feel put off. Their online check-in system is convenient and well thought out, and you can tell they cater to the tech savvy, busy Durham crowd. I have to say that the classes I've been to were pretty diversely populated, but definitely more female heavy. The one thing I would look out for is that their packages expire very quickly. I bought a 5 package deal that expired in 3 months, which just didn't give me much wiggle room, so I won't be purchasing another one, just in case. read more

I was pretty excited to explore the yoga scene in Durham. Walking in, the place looked really nice but people weren't too friendly but oh well. I'm used to yoga studios being serene and quiet as you walk, time for some inner reflection. But it was pretty disappointing when the instructor has social conversations with the students before class starts. Starting a class with announcements also I think kind of threw off my zen a little bit. As a yoga business, I think the announcements can be kept to a minimal. The announcements took like 5 to 10 minutes of class time. It's finally time for some intermediate vinyasa... Hmmmm it was not a flowing sequence not was it challenging. I came in seeking a mindful experience, but I walked out extremely disappointed. read more

I love the teachers and get a lot out of the class. I live near 9th street and try to do yoga/pilates 2-3 times a week, and I usually come to blue point. However, it can be pretty expensive, especially considering I can take yoga classes for free at school. Pros: - calm/serene space - GREAT teachers - extensive and varied class schedule - easy to get to and nice location - free parking Cons: - the floor length window looking onto Erwin Rd is awkward when you're in the Plow Pose - expensive If you live in Durham, and don't have a membership to the Y, Blue Point is excellent. If, however, you do have a gym membership, go downtown for free yoga classes. And if you live outside durham (in chapel hill, for example), go to the yoga studio in Carrboro. It's cheaper and a better atmosphere. read more

I joined Blue Point yoga when the new location opened just minutes from my house and it has turned out to be such a blessing! The yoga that is taught here is the soul soothing, energy healing, breath strengthening kind of practice that is so often missing from trendy hot flow focused studios. The teachers are all really unique with their own styles, so you can get a super intense difficult class (Jess McGovern Thursday 5:30 Geer St) or a completely relaxing restorative class (Scott Campbell Sunday 5:30 Erwin Sq) or a super technique driven class with the kind of alignment cues that forever change how you experience simple poses like down dog or triangle (Amy Nichols M/W 7:00). And that is just a small sampling of their amazing classes and teachers! Also did I mention that this is this the best deal in town?? New members get 21 days for $21 dollars, and an unlimited month is only $89 and you can go to both studios!!! Thank you Sara for opening these wonderful studios and making yoga accessible for our community! I love Blue Point! read more

One of my favorite yoga spots in the Triangle. I go to Blue Point at least once a week, mainly because it's close to my work and you can easily find free parking behind the building. All the instructors are super nice and willing to help you by giving alternative moves or explaining step by step on how to enter a pose especially side crow. I also like the special event classes they offer such as yoga and wine tasting and for Valentines Day, we participated in partner yoga with chocolates and wine. Yum! read more

Blue Point is the first studio I have practiced regularly at, and I love it! I've been there for over a almost 2 years now and go at least twice a week, but often three or four times, making the $89 unlimited monthly pass well worth it. I love the variety of classes and teachers there. I've had some teachers there whose styles weren't for me, but for I like having the range of classes and teacher personalities. Here's my reviews of current classes I've taken. Monday Night Yin with Karla She is very sweet and encouraging. She makes yin enjoyable and invites you to move slowly to adjust a pose when needed instead of hating life while you wait for a pose to end. Great class for slowing down and restoring. Tuesday Night Level 2 with Jess This is the most aerobics based yoga class I've ever taking and I love it! If you want you heart to pump, this is the class for you. This is one of the more challenging classes I take there. Jess is very high energy and fun. Wednesday Level 1-2 with Natalie I usually have a conflict with this class, but love to go when that is canceled. This is a great class for anyone looking to advance from level 1 to 2. It's a challenging class, and Natalie is the most encouraging teaching I've taken a class with. She'll give you feedback and cheer loudly with the biggest smile when it clicks. Thursday Night Deep Stretch with Jess This is a very different class from Jess' Tuesday. It's much more Yin than Flow, but more challenging than Karla's Yin. But still restorative and fun. Friday Noon Express Flow with Amy All the express classes are 15 mins shorter, so great choice if your schedule is tight. Some folks come on their lunch break. Amy is high energy and very encouraging. She gives a lot of individual feedback and I find that very helpful. This is a quick, fun, and challenging classes. Saturday Morning Level 1-2 with Sara This is the class for you if you want to be challenged but also have playful banter between students and the teacher. This class has the most regulars I have seen and the class has a wonderful and entertaining personality. The poses may seem less challenging than a level 2 class, but they're held longer and you think more deeply about them. All while Sara chides you about how you've done harder things, and the classes chatters back, so you laugh, making one more chair pose more bearable. Saturday Afternoon Level 2 with Rachel This class is a deceptively hard workout. Rachel is funny, speaks softly, and likes to keep the lights low. So it feels like a slow and restorative class. I don't usually sweat much during this class, but I am super sore the next day. So if you want to trick your body into a tough workout, try this one. Sunday Morning Level 1-2 with Beth I've only taken this class once, but I really loved Beth's instructions. She gave some of the most concise and easy to follow instructions I've ever heard. Like Sara's Saturday am class, "easier" poses held a longer time with greater intention. But the student's are much quieter, so if loud teasing isn't for you, try Beth's class. Sunday Afternoon Level 1 with Jackie Jackie is super sweet and is great about offering modifications both to make poses easier or harder. I've taken this class after doing level 2 for awhile, and still come out feeling really sore and challenged. When I first started, I remember learning a lot in Jackie's class from the general shape of poses to the nuanced things like how to spread your toes. So great class to start your practice with if you're new to yoga. And also good if you're more experienced but the time works. read more

I've been going to yoga classes here on and off for close to 10 years, and overall it's been a great place. However, lately the instructors seem really reluctant to adjust the room temperature to make it comfortable. It's regularly a stifling 80+ degrees in the room, and at most, they might turn the fans on. And that's after people complain about being hot. I understand that muscles are more limber when warm, but it's getting ridiculous. Not sure if Sara is just being cheap/trying to save $$$, but you will end up losing clients if you're not responsive to multiple requests. I've heard others grumbling about how hot it is too, so I really hope they utilize the AC in the summer months. If we wanted to go to hot yoga, we would. I'm a very cold natured person, so if I think it's hot, I'm sure others are burning up! read more

Not a lot of variety. Seems like every teacher follows a sequence and script. The best and most challenging teachers have moved on. It is a clean space though and everyone is welcoming. read more

When I moved to Durham a few years ago, Blue Point was the first yoga studio I tried, and I was instantly a huge fan. All of the teachers I've studied with have been welcoming and lead really high-quality classes. My practice has grown a lot since I started attending classes there! It's a great community and I'd recommend it to anyone, regardless of their level of experience - there is a wonderful variety of classes and teaching styles, so it would be hard to not find a class you don't love! read more

Went to an excellent Yoga 101 class the other day. Great teacher who was very warm and friendly as well as informative. Nice guy working the front desk, and a beautiful, bright, clean studio. Would definitely go back again! read more

I've been practicing here for about 2 years and I really enjoy the morning classes especially with Linda on Tuesday and Thursday. It's a nice blend of vinyasa flow, Iyengar elements and core strength. I've recently have fallen in love with the yin yoga classes which incorporate deep connective tissue stretching and restorative poses. Give them a try - first class is free! read more

I've attended about 6 prenatal yoga classes at Blue Point Yoga and have been very pleased. The first class you attend is free. I've experienced four different instructors in the classes I've been to (there have been subs for the regular instructors a couple times), which I have actually enjoyed since each instructor brings her own style and knowledge to the class. I only wish there were another prenatal class on the weekend, maybe on Saturday! One thing I find somewhat unusual is that there are no mirrors in the studios. I am accustomed to being able to use a mirror to check my balance, posture, and placement. In some ways, however, not having a mirror helps me just focus on myself and not worry too much about doing the poses perfectly. Otherwise, the studio is well-maintained and there is ample free parking behind the building. My only complaint is that at about half of the classes I've attended so far, class has started a few minutes late as the instructor has helped latecomers find space and get the needed props. Even when class starts a few minutes late it still ends on time and winds up being a little shorter than 75 minutes. Since I usually get there early, this is frustrating to me. Overall, I have really enjoyed my experience at Blue Point Yoga. I'll definitely continue to attend the prenatal yoga classes for the next few months, and will probably be looking to attend other classes there after the baby is born. read more

Great yoga studio! Wonderful teachers and good prices.

One of the best studios in Durham and so pleased that they opened a second location downtown. I've taken classes with Sara Doyle, Jacqueline Johnson, and Linda Martinez. They all are expert teachers with a command of alignment principles. Highly recommended! read more

I highly recommend Blue Point Yoga. I've done yoga for 25 years, all over the country, and this is the best place I've ever been. They have a wide range of classes from very beginner to advanced. Blue Point also has such a variety of teachers and styles- there is something for everyone. If you want to look better, feel better, sleep better or just become a calmer, more centered person, I recommend Blue Point Yoga! read more

Both locations of Blue Point Yoga are very welcoming, and I like that they always have someone at the front desk. I practiced yoga here throughout my pregnancy, and I loved the prenatal classes. read more

The teachers here are very knowledgeable and there is a variety of classes offered. I love the workshops and special classes offered. I appreciate that they don't play music during their classes. It's great to be a part of this community. read more

Hhhhmmm, as a first timer, I didn't like the fact that I was there before the employee to actually open up the studio. I was there 20 minutes early, thinking that I would have to fill out paperwork. I walked and was greeted by the instructor, and at this time only two other women were in the studio. The instructor politely introduced herself as a sub-her name is Brynn. The other women in the room complemented the instructor and the studio when they learned I was new. I had mixed feelings about the announcements at the beginning of class. I wish more time had been spent getting us "in the zone" Brynn was easy to follow and even floated around the room offering assistance. I think part of the reason i didn't rate them higher is bc of the price of the drop in class-I would suggest offering the first session for free like Most other studios, $16 was kind steep. Like they say on Shark Tank, " for that reason, I'm out." My search to find a yoga studio to call home continues. read more

Top notch instructors, excellent new student specials, a fantastic location, and beautiful space.

Been practicing yoga for almost 15 years at different studios in Southwest and California, and tried a couple of studios in NC, but couldn't find one that met what I was used to. I was so thrilled to discover Blue Point yoga -it's a hidden gem!!! I recommend them if you want a genuine yoga experience that is focused on connecting you to your body and breath, without distracting 'bell and whistles' that take you completely out of your body. The instructors are very well informed about anatomy and offer modifications for every level, from beginners to advanced. I also appreciate how they break down steps for getting into more challenging poses so students can try them out. I always learn something new in their classes. read more

I had my first yoga experience here & I absolutely loved it! I mean I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and leading yoga instructor. She just knew what to say and do to direct me in the right direction but still letting me know that I and my body knew best if I felt otherwise.. The atmosphere is very calm & serene. The appointment booking was easy and not drawn out or a hassle. I have definitely done myself a favor, by buying a package. read more

I really want to like Blue Point but after coming a couple of times I think it's safe to say I don't. The instructors I've had have all been great and they provide you with blocks, blankets, and Zabutons (cushioned seats) at no extra charge. They have plenty of storage for your belongings (nothing that locks up). What I don't care for is the studio itself. It's a storefront space with large windows set back off a busy road so I get distracted from the cars driving by and all the road noise. Coupled with listening to what I think is an elevator going up and down in another part of the building I just can't relax and get into the class. I'm a sucker for music when I'm doing yoga and I haven't heard any the times I've attended class. I like the balance of a good workout and a calm mind when doing yoga and because of all the external noise I just don't obtain that at Blue Point. If that type of thing doesn't bother you then you should give Blue Point a try because again their instructors are great. I'm still on the hunt for my ideal yoga studio in Durham and if you know of one please let me know :) read more

overall - a good (not great) yoga studio - very close to duke campus off erwin rd. i took advantage of their really great new student intro price of 21 days for $21. during this time, i took 3 classes - 2 of them were really good (same instructor both times), 1 was not (different instructor). the studio space itself is ok - all 3 times i was there, the floor coulda used a good sweep before class. also - due to its store-front location there is some road & foot traffic noise that can be distracting. medium lulu ratio (# of students clad in lululemon gear vs # of students not). read more

I didn't notice how many people had on Lulu Lemon gear,as the last reviewer was stuck on!? I agree with however, about it being just OK. There is nothing special about BPYoga. They don't play music; it's not much of a spiritual kind of Yoga, if that is the experience you are looking for. No mirrors to be able to check your alignment out if you like that..I've tried several of the instructors/classes, and they were all OK. One really annoying one, Sarah, however, chatted with the other students and talked throughout the entire class mainly about her cat and boyfriend! Sunday night restorative is great for relaxing before the week begins...I think Scott is the best and most professional one there! I never saw anyone EVER sweep the floor! The candlelight Yin is kind of a joke with the big picture window in front! Kind of makes no sense when the room is as bright as can be! And unfriendly people...SNOBS!! I tried!! I won't be going back! read more
