Our older redwood deck is in better shape than this table.
    Emily C.

We found Blue Pocket/Jorge through Craigslist last summer after purchasing a new home. We're gutting the entire house so were looking for an outdoor table we could eat and entertain at for the next couple of years while we work on the interior. We care for an elderly parent and needed a bar-height table to accommodate him for family meals, and after months of looking realized we were really looking at a custom table. Luckily we found Jorge, who makes just what we were looking for at a reasonable price. Not so luckily, we didn't check Yelp, and that was our first mistake. My boyfriend discussed our needs at length with him before deciding on a table. We ordered an 8' long bar height table, two bar height benches and 2 bar stools in June 2020 and were told he was backed up and they'd be delivered in 4-6 weeks. We paid 50% down. 6 weeks came and went, we were still eating on our coffee table, and Jorge wasn't answering calls or texts. After months of not hearing from him, Jorge delivered a table after dark on Thanksgiving. We were ecstatic because that meant we'd be able to eat together as a family for the first time in months. We paid the rest of our bill. Unfortunately the next morning we realized he'd delivered the wrong table; what we received was only 6' and standard height, not bar height. Only the 2 stools were correct. He promised to make it right and said he was backed up but he'd get us the right table ASAP. In the meantime the outdoor dining table we received weathered badly while sitting outside. I didn't have a cover for it as it was the wrong size, and we assumed he'd be picking it up in a week or two. The table is rickety and all the finish that had been applied has now come off in the elements: not awesome for only a few months outdoors. It's been on our patio under a roof but had to move it several times to get it out of the way of construction, and it is not standing up well to that either. He stopped returning my boyfriend's calls this May so I stepped in; he answered my call right away and was very apologetic. I figured I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. He explained (months after delivering the wrong item) that the table we wanted could not be constructed of redwood (a wood he had suggested in the first place) because it was too large for so soft a wood. He also said the style could not be done at that scale. We talked options and he suggested a different style in Douglas fir, which I agreed to because, well, he had our money already and we were still eating on the coffee table. He offered a stain or scorch at no charge to make up for the mistakes, which I thought was nice. I hoped the scorching would allow it to better stand up to the elements. I asked him for a realistic, conservative delivery estimate so we could plan, and he said 2 weeks. You can guess how that went. May 19 he offered me a delivery date for the following week. I told him I was open, but didn't hear back. Two weeks later, he accidentally phoned me when trying to call a different customer. A week later I nailed him down again and he gave me a delivery date for the following week, again apologizing profusely. The day before I hadn't heard from him so I called and texted to confirm a time: no response. Our delivery date has now come and gone and he's not answered calls or texts from either me or my boyfriend, and we have been trying to reach him daily. We're now over a year since we first ordered the table and are asking for a full refund and thanks to him refusing to take our calls, we're stuck going to PayPal for it. Do yourself a favor and buy elsewhere.

This guy is the most unprofessional person I've hired for any project.
    David M.

Unprofessional I spoke and dealt with the main guy on the website Jorge. I was getting a flat piece of wood replicated at a larger scale Jorge told me it would take him one week to finish my project I contacted 2 weeks later nothing 3 weeks nothing 4 weeks nothing not a word of communication from him. I finally got ahold of him and he gave me a bunch of excuses I finally had to get a refund and my originals back from him the entire time he was laughing as if I was unreasonable. Save your time and money look for a professional to complete your projects

Ordered a dining table (the 5ft Spring Table) from Blue Pocket and I could not be happier with it. The work is immaculate, the price was beyond reasonable, and the whole process, from ordering to delivery, was easy and seamless.

    Custom table

Highly recommend Jorge! The table and benches he built us are really beautiful. He let us visit his studio and showed us around before we decided on what we wanted. We were so excited to get an amazing custom built table at an affordable price. It took a little longer than expected because we ordered around the holidays and he got backed up with orders. But he delivered the table for free as a nice gesture for our wait and was really accommodating. Ultimately we got a beautifully built table that we'll have forever and reclaimed wood benches to fit our kitchen. Would definitely go back to Jorge in the future.

He was attentive to our needs and the result transformed our family room. It was a room no one sat in. Now, our family and friends flock there to unwind, have family movie night or to play games. The quality of his work impressed us so, that we had The LA Cabinet Company add a built in bar, floating shelves and cabinets to our dining room. Again, impeccable, flawless work. He then took on the challenge of our kitchen. My family and friends were stunned! Everything was to our specifications, gorgeous, and offered UNIQUE storage solutions. Mike is a skilled craftsman. He was responsible and respectful throughout the duration of the work. I cannot speak to value as we looked nowhere else. His work does take time, beauty and customization always does. His work was well worth the wait AND the way it has gathered our family together IS priceless!!! I highly recommend Mike and his team for all your cabinet needs.

After emailing back and forth, we set up a time for Mike to meet at my house to take dimensions and to talk further about what I wanted. About one week later, Mike sent me a drawing and we made some changes. Although I am very unfamiliar with any type of knowledge when it comes to shelves, parts, etc., Mike took the time to walk me through everything and even sent me photos and explanations of my options. Mike was very responsive via email and made sure everything was exactly how I wanted before he started to build the customized shelves and cabinets. Mike and his team were also very respectful on the day of installation. All in all, I highly recommend Mike! My living room turned out even better than I envisioned!

We had a hideous concrete slab that called itself a porch. For years, we didn't really know what…read moreto do with it, so we ignored it. But after redoing our garden beds and restoring our original exterior windows, that hideous slab became un-ignorable. It turns out finding someone willing to build a new porch is really difficult. We spoke to six different companies and most wouldn't be transparent about their pricing, quoted insanely high numbers, had spend minimums, tried to forgo the vision entirely to be closer to (but still above) our budget, or never replied. We reached out to Jack, not expecting much different, but were immediately impressed by the time he took to speak with us about our porch and design goals. He walked us through different considerations, proposed different materials, and answered questions to be sure we were all aligned and the integrity of everything would be solid. He then sent us an incredibly detailed recap and proposal of what he would do with itemized pricing, really underscoring his authenticity in wanting to be a true partner. Throughout every step of the project, Jack made sure to consult with us through any decision we needed to make or reconsider based on the actuality of what we were encountering. In construction, the only guarantee is that something will come up, requiring flexibility, and every time it did, Jack had solutions that actually ended up exceeding our original design. He was also incredibly patient whenever we deliberated on different ideas or when we were moving through his workspace. His commitment to our project and work was noticed and remarked on by multiple neighbors, as he and his team worked through long days and some brutal summer heat to get it done before we had family visiting. In fact, several stopped Jack, or us, to get his contact for themselves. Whenever it came to the finishing details, like custom balusters and top rails, Jack was quick to be critical of when a piece didn't turn out as well as the rest, pointing it out and starting over. Jack also had to laminate multiple pieces of wood together and seek out a specific machine to achieve the custom rounded top rail we were after for the new railing. By the end of it, Jack delivered us a porch that exceeded our expectations and our initial hopes. Having worked with so many vendors on so many different projects, we taught ourselves to not expect perfection but in this case, Jack delivered the closest to that of anyone, ever. The truth is, there just aren't many craft people like Jack around anymore. And there are even far fewer with customer service as incredible as their talent. Jack is one in a million and we consider ourselves supremely lucky to have met him and that he had availability in his project schedule.

The project involved a lot of layout decisions, uneven floor conditions, outlet coordination, panel proportions, cap details, and making sure everything would work both visually and practically in a commercial space. Paul was thoughtful throughout the process and clearly knows finish carpentry. What I appreciated most was that he did not just rush through it. He took the time to think through the details, explain options, and flag things that could affect the final result before cutting into the material. He was especially careful with the panel layout, wood movement, grain direction, and how the base and trim should be handled so the finished product would both look right and hold up well over time. The wainscoting came out really elegant and clean, and the craftsmanship is obvious in person. It gave the space warmth and character immediately. The bar work also came out great and tied in nicely with the rest of the room. Paul cares about the end result and it shows. If you are looking for someone for detailed trim or custom millwork and want somebody who actually thinks through the job instead of just nailing things up, I would absolutely recommend him.

From the beginning Manuel was challenging to get ahold of (no responses on emails mostly). Work started a week later than we had agreed on and Initially the project was supposed to take 3 days - demo, install, finishing- and it was suggested that it could be done in one week. The project started September 25 2024 and was finally finished November 15, almost 2 months. During demo we had to ask them to stop because they did not tape off the space and spread huge amounts of dust throughout our house that we ended up needing to do lead and aesbestos testing to move forward (not to mention, I had to take a day off of work to clean up the mess created). We had to call and text and basically beg them to send people out to finish the work and we could tell we were a very low priority- mostly working Saturdays, canceling multiple times after committing to dates, unwilling to commit to days until a day or two in advance, etc. He pretended he would work around our schedule but if that was the case, this work would have NEVER been completed. I canceled plans 3 times during this process to make myself available to get this work done. After demo, I think they realized this job was more complicated than originally anticipated but instead of telling us that, Manuel just kept us guessing, unsure if the timeline had changed- he did not want to communicate specifics with us which we would have really appreciated and welcomed. We learned quickly that they were not particularly respectful of our space so we began taping up our own plastic space dividers to keep dust and fumes out of the rest of our living space. The workers were very nice and I believe the issue is with management rather than the workers themselves. In the end, the work is nice enough which is why I give 2 stars instead of 1. The finished work was absolutely not worth the headache and displacement we experienced to get it done. It was a truly painful experience. I have other cabinetry projects I would like to do but will absolutely not be hiring MJ Custom cabinetry again to do the work.
