Been twice now...and what an absolutely fun time! The cool part? Everyone's in a great mood. Better? The fact that you don't need any experience at all! Best? You can bring snacks and a cooler...or pick up some drinks there. The staff is super cool - and helpful - and if you listen to them, you'll score! Once you get the hang of things, you can start playing games, but honestly? Meh. Just THROW! While you might bristle at slots "only" lasting an hour, you'll be surprised at what a good length of time that is. Whether it's a date night...a couple's get together or a team event (my hubs did one with peeps from his work)...this is just FUN. And don't we all need more of that these days?

Make a reservation for you and some friends, fuel up on a Neil's donut, grab a 6-pack of brew and head to Blue Ox Axe Throwing! It's in a larger industrial style building with a few other businesses--easy to find. I recommend making a reservation for your hour because it can get busy. My group of 3 signed waivers and paid before a mini instruction. It's clean, safe if you're not an idiot, and surprisingly fun. There are different axe throwing games you can play (think darts) so you're not just randomly throwing an axe at the target. Although, that's fun too. You get your own fenced in lane. An hour is plenty! Will definitely head there again to blow off some steam, spend an hour inside, and support local fun businesses.

Came here for my sons 15th birthday party with 4 of his best friends. Carissa and Joe were amazing to make his party a success. Joe spent time with each of them teaching them to improve their throws and Carissa was amazing the whole time helping us with the cake and the drinks. Overall, we had an amazing experience and my son had a great birthday!!

Interesting concept. Throwing axes is a must for competitive families who want to play a brand new game. The venue is new and clean, and the staff is friendly and accommodating

Also we brought a cooler of drinks so we didn't have to buy any which saved money.

"Is there nothing I can say, nothing I can do To change your…read moremind? I'm so in love with you I'll be your saviour, steadfast and true I'll come to your emotional rescue" (Jagger and Richards) A professional organization I belong to was scheduled to hold an axe throwing party/charity fundraiser at Pine & Iron in Hartford last night. But two and a half days ago, they contacted us to cancel because they had closed their doors for good. We didn't want to cancel the event, so what were we to do? Well, Montana Nights came to our rescue and 20 of us had a blast. Our Guardian Angel was manager Carolyn, who worked in a slot for our group, arranged an instructor, pizza and sandwiches from Square Peg, and drink tickets from their bar (beer and axes, what could go wrong?). Anyway, we had a freaking blast at Montana Nights. Our instructor Kyle was great. He gave us a safety talk, demonstrated one hand and two hand throwing techniques, and broke us into two teams for some axe flinging fun. We threw at a conventional bulls eye target, an unconventional bulls eye target where the center moved around, and Tic Tac Toe and Connect Four variations. I threw ten axes in warm ups, and then 20 axes in two ten-frame 4-person team contests. I stuck one out of ten in the warm ups, just one in Game #1, but improved significantly by sticking 4 in the second game. I even had a center Bulls Eye!! By the way, the food from Square Peg was great - lots of different pizzas, grinders cut into fours, and a big salad. Thank you Carolyn and Kyle for saving our event. It was a charity collection event where our members donated new clothing, toys, and household supplies for Madonna House in Norwich, CT. I would love to see Yelp incorporate more of some sort of charity collections at our events. Sort of a "Pay It Forward" philosophy. Everyone can afford to bring a few cans of soup or tuna to donate to a group that needs them.

Had so much fun here this past weekend!…read more Upon entering you are prompted to pay and sign your waiver which is a very quick process. My friend and I went on a Friday night at around 7:30 PM and the wait was not long at all. There is a full bar and even live music which was a pleasant surprise to see! It a great hang out spot even if you opt out of throwing axes. Once you are assigned a lane an instructor walks you over and goes over safety rules as well as how to properly throw the axe and tally points. After some tries by myself, they realized I was struggling and offered a personalized lesson. They were patient with me and gave me many different strategies to use to perfect my throw. While embarrassed at how bad I truly was, it was really comforting that they took the time to teach me without judgement. By the end of it, I have to say I was fairly confident and was landing it on the board almost every time, which made my experience a lot more enjoyable (even getting a bullseye might I add). Great for a first date, a group hangout, or family activity!

They expanded and did an amazing job on the new bar and patio. We will be back to hang out here soon! The 4 of us reserved an hour for throwing. The woman checking us in was very nice and even though we had been there before, was kind enough to give us a quick refresher. I have to mention the music being played was spot on! We all enjoyed this. Drinks are not expensive and bar tender was friendly. We did not try any food as we were heading out someplace to eat. we will be back and this time not wait so long!
