I, too, only tried Blue Olive's takeout service and cannot attest to the dine-in option. Being a lover of Greek food, I purchased a Groupon for the restaurant in the summer. I had good experiences with It's All Greek to Me and was saddened by the restaurant's demise, so I hoped that Blue Olive would satisfy in the same manner. I ordered the cheese phyllo appetizer, with moussaka, rice, potatoes, and Greek salad as the entree. It took approximately 15 minutes for my order to arrive, and I was pleased to see that everything was packaged separately and not clumped together in a giant mush. With that being said, I found the fare to be...well, pretty bland. The phyllo pastry was probably the most flavorful aspect of the meal, with the moussaka being the worst I've ever had - there was almost no way to distinguish it from the accompanying rice and potatoes, which were unremarkable. I love moussaka, so this was a pretty big letdown. I'm glad that I did not pay full price for my meal. I don't think I'll bother going back to Blue Olive. I see that others have had positive experiences, so if you give it a shot I wish you luck. read more

Delicious! I never give 5 stars until i've been to a place twice... just to make sure ...but we will definitely be going back! I love the people who work there, the owners I think (not totally sure) were so welcoming and fun and the service was wonderful. The food is inspiring, you can tell they take great pride in their dishes, the flavours!!! It's one of those restaurants where you will clean every last crumb from your plate and leave satisfied and in a better mood than you came in. The decor is cheery and bright and the people who work there make you feel like you're family. Delightful place, can't wait to try as many things as possible. I hope they stick around for a while, some places on Quinpool tend to open and close quickly but I think word will spread fast and we will have the pleasure of joining them for good food and good people for a long time to come. Last night some friends and I went to Blue Olive for dinner after a wedding celebration. The married couple also came, and Jimmy and his staff went above and beyond to make sure the night was special and memorable. They stayed open extra late, were more than accommodating, and even let them do traditional plate smashing. Can't wait to go back! read more

Just had the moussaka with a side of the peas in a tomato sauce, literally one of the best meals I've had. Everything on the plate tasted like heaven. I've been to a few of the Greek places around HRM and this is definitely my favourite. I thought the portion sizing was perfect, just right and not leaving uncomfortably full. I was always a fan of It's All Greek to Me, both to eat in or for their great delivery service. I'm happy to see that Blue Olive is now open, with the previous owner, Jimmy, as the manager. I went in last night with a friend and the food is the same great Greek food that I know and love. Jimmy was on hand, and took time to chat with all the patrons, and he said that delivery service is coming back. This is great news for students like me who either don't have the time to cook, or are just too lazy. Our server was really nice, and service was efficient. Being a faithful patron of the old IAGTM at the Quinpool location, I figured regardless of all the bad press surrounding its demise, I would like to give the benefit of the doubt to the owner and give the new Blue Olive a whirl. Pleased to find the location kept the same Mediterranean feel with some updated decor & nice addition of a bar; very friendly and courteous service from a cute little waitress who was so efficient & very attentive to our needs and the same decent quality food from the kitchen. Presentation on the plate was lacking some flair, but allow for some wrinkles as they get the new place up & running. Will definitely be back & won't hesitate in recommending! 2nd visit: a sunny Thursday in June 2017. The same friend and I came back for lunch and again it wasn't busy, with us being only the second party at a table. Friendly service but we found it took quite a while this time, especially between our shared appetizer and our meals. We gave ourselves close to 90 minutes to eat before having to return to work for a meeting, but I had to get up and pay before finishing my meal, so took it in a doggie bag. The appetizer Flaming Saganaki ($12 Kefalograviera cheese flambéed in a Greek brandy) was very fun with a proper big flamee poof of flame from the server as she held the tray on her shoulder. Once the flame was out, the cheese kept sizzling for minutes in the pan, and was melted just right. My Yemista ($17 green pepper and tomato filled with herbs, seasoned riced, ground beef, topped with feta and oven-baked.) was very good, but even if I had time to finish it, was quite full about half way through. Maybe without the appetizer I could finish it. My friend really enjoyed his Pork Souvlaki with potatoes and salad, saying it was juicy and nicely charred. Cleaned his plate 100% as usual. We'd definitely come back anytime and I'd like to try a dessert, but would come on a day when we have enough time to spare. read more

This is an easy one. Came here after a christening and wasn't sure whether I was feeling up for Greek food...the excessive oil usually gives me bad heartburn for hours. But they have has somehow managed to totally eliminate all excess oil while keeping all of the flavor! Hands down the best Greek food I've ever had! Keep it up Jimmy! read more

Ordered delivery from here, so I don't feel I can give a very precise review but I specifically wanted to praise the owner(?) on his customer service skills. I ordered the souvlaki pita platter, and after the delivery driver left I realized that part of the order was missing so I gave the restaurant a call. The man I spoke to apologized and said he'd drive it over himself right away, which he did, and he also brought us 2 free pieces of baklava dessert for the inconvenience. Impressive! The pita wasn't the greatest, I found the chicken to be quite fatty unfortunately, but everything else was quite satisfying. I'd like to eat here again, but maybe try something new at the restaurant next time. read more

I have yet to step foot in the restaurant but I have ordered take-out/delivery "a few times". The chicken souvlaki seems to be my regular order but I have also tried a variety of other items. The delivery service is excellent and has a great price point. It is also no problem to get your salad with no onions, which makes date night much less smelly. read more

My wife and I frequent the Blue Olive at least once a month and LOVE IT. The food is always superb, the waitresses always attentive, the atmosphere perfect for a relaxing night out. The restaurant is small which makes it feel cozy, but make reservations as it can fill up on certain evenings. read more

I have gone to Blue Olive once and I'm not planning to return. Overpriced for the quality and the portion of the food. The one thing that made me so furious was the Basmati rice I was served as a Greek side dish. That goes to show how little effort is put into being authentic! read more

After reading the reviews I decided to go with a group of friends.. We were the only table, took them forever to serve us, after waiting for 35 mins food arrived, it wasn't what I expected... Cold and super greasy! Salads didn't have dressing, after we asked for dressing we only got olive oil... Coffee mugs were covered in coffee on the outside when they were served. One day I woke up and checked instagram to see that a fellow yelper had uploaded a photo of the most delicious looking sounding dessert ever: fried dough balls in a honey sauce. Right then I knew that I needed it inside of me before sunset. Originally planning on a dinner, I opted for lunch because I couldn't wait any longer. The decor is, as expected, lots of whites and blues. Even on a dark and cloudy day it still seems sunny inside (try getting a seat near the large bay windows). First, the bread arrived...only two slices (not even pita). Now, if you're like me, I need a lot of bread with a Greek meal especially when there is Greek cheese and olive oil involved... Then came the flaming saganaki (12$). This is my favourite appetizer of all time, I used to go to Ottawa just to get my fix back in the day. However, disaster first struck when the lighter refused to light so that the waitress apologized and went to retrieve a new lighter. This only produced a faint fizzle of a flame for the weakest of "Opas". The cheese first was far too solid, which might have been caused by the lack of flame. Even so, saganaki should be lavished and spread on pita bread, not cut and shoved in the mouth like steak. The worst part was that it had this incredibly strange taste that could only be described as a mix between doughnuts and Mcdonalds... (It even LOOKED like a twinkie) Next was the lunch lamb souvlaki (11$). It tasted okay, but there was nothing too remarkable to note about it, besides that it had WAY too much tzatziki. The side salad was strangely the best part of the entree, piled high with feta cheese. For dessert I ordered the plain loukoumathes (5$), the long awaited cinnamon doughballs in honey sauce and can I just say: SO GOOD!!! I only wished I had ordered the ice cream filled version instead for 9$, but after so many misses, I was a little hesitant... The service was great, but extremely slow for being only one of a handful of patrons, however this probably was due to the fact that a big wig was at the next table and refused to let the waitress leave despite not knowing what to order. My advice, come for the loukoumathes, and that's it. read more

My boyfriend and I visited Blue Olive to try a new Greek restaurant and to satisfy our cravings ever since our visit to Greece last summer. Anyway, the restaurant was completely empty on a Sunday evening so we were a bit hesitant but decided to go for it anyway. To say the least, it was far beyond our expectations and definitely delicious! We ordered the appetizer platter with a sampler of most of the dips and appetizers and all were delicious and well balanced in terms of flavor. The kalamari and spanakopita were my favorites from the appetizer and they were warm along with warm grilled bread/pita triangles to go with house made dips. We also ordered mousaka to share and it was delicious and not to heavy (compared to a couple of other places in Halifax that we've tried). It was pretty similar to what we had in Greece, and what I usually have in Toronto where I'm originally from. All in all, we liked the atmosphere which as clean, with cute homey decor, and authentic sounding music, and it was not bad at all having the restaurant to ourselves! Definitely coming again for another date night and to sample some more dishes. It is a couple dollars pricier but well worth the money. Absolutely delicious and satisfied! read more

So this is an amazing place. It's not only the tasty food and great service, It's the people. I feel like i am a friend more then a customer. If i have a bad day i always leave happy. I usually have Spanikopita which is sooo good, it is warm, crispy, flavourful and has a good balance of spinach and feta.I have tried many greek places across halifax and i am very picky with my spanikopita and i found that this is the best! I have also had a greek pasta dish that was sooooo light and delicious that i would eat it everyday if i could. Their Baklava is also fantastic, always a great treat and again served by the best staff i have ever met. It is in such a cute restaurant that has a great atmosphere. We've eaten here several times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. The food is absolutely wonderful, the atmosphere is bright and airy, but the best thing about the restaurant is how friendly it is. Today we took our toddler out for supper after both having a long day at work and being too tired to cook. My husband joked with the waitress that our toddler only eats pancakes, not at all expecting them to make it. Low and behold, they surprised us with a special order of pancakes for our son! He was so pleased. Jimmy, the owner of the restaurant is such a nice friendly guy and goes out of his way to make you feel welcome. There are many lovely restaurants in Halifax but none as genuinely friendly as this one. read more
