Coach Frank was able to get me on countless waves during my first time on a surfboard! During my lesson, I was able to stand for the overwhelming majority of the session, and caught SO MANY WAVES. He taught me the importance of body strength and mobility, then focused fundamentals of the surfboard and how to navigate it. Once we got into the water, he coached me through the waves and got me standing in less than 3 waves. As the session progressed, I got more confident and Coach Frank taught me how to stand up faster and even how to read the waves. Coach Frank is more than just a surf instructor. I bought a Groupon lesson for two 2 days prior to f'ing out at 3 pm the day before that the owner accidentally doubled booked. Was asked if I could take the 8am slot or 2 pm slot. Hell no, I'm not going to pay full price to accommodate a time slot that doesn't fit in my day. I'm happy that your business is doing well, but it's still messed up and I would not recommend your surf school to anyone or attempt to book with you again. My kids were really looking forward to surf lessons. The owner didn't even offer a discounted price for the other time slots as well. Poor customer service. On top of that, 3 pm does not give me any time to search for another school. read more

I took a semi-private lesson with Coach Frank and had an amazing time! A friend referred Blue Ocean Breeze after I shared I was looking for surfing classes. I quickly learned that they had a simple online booking process. I reached out via Facebook and was connected with Frank who was friendly and professional. We hopped on a quick call to learn about the different group and private lesson options, then paid online. Unfortunately, we ran into some flight delay issues and thanks to Frank's flexibility and understanding, we still made it happen! It was easy to find Frank on the day of the lesson at Ala Moana Park. I'm not the best swimmer out there but Coach Frank's positive energy and clear instructions made me feel extremely safe and comfortable before heading out into the water. We started with a ~10-15 minute warm-up and surfing basics on the beach. He provided constructive feedback and re-assured me by answering any questions I had. When we got into the water, Frank was extremely patient and encouraging which helped me gain confidence after catching a few baby waves. Frank was a wonderful teacher. My daughter and I reserved a group lesson, which ended up being just the two of us. After a brief beach demo we paddled out and each caught and rode the first waves we attempted. Got up and rode them almost back to the beach! IF YOU WANT TO LEARN TO SURF, THIS IS THE PLACE. I took a private lesson from Owner Frank. Not only is he a fabulous instructor but he's very patient as well. Frank does a 15 minute land course then takes you out at Ala Moana Park, (total 90 minutes) As a 67 year old, I had my doubts about even paddling out to the waves but under Franks instruction, I was standing up on my very first try. Franks communication was superb. I called and left a voice mail message the day before and Frank got back to me as soon as he was done with his lesson. Frank even opened up a noon time slot for me. I had called another place prior to calling BlueOcean but they took hours to respond and didn't have a time slot. All in all, I was thrilled with this experience. read more

I've had several lessons with different outfitters to work on my technique - I truly appreciate that every instructor has different teaching styles and methodologies and I want to hear them all - but 100% - I clicked with Frank. His meticulous attention to detail, placement, position, everything was so on point. He insisted on making me practice on land before entering the water, which was clutch even though at first I didn't think I needed it. He also made me do a thorough warm up - strangely enough, I've never had that with any other instructor. He helped me to do the one thing I couldn't do on my own: catch a wave by myself. Cabral (Frank) is an awesome surf instructor. He is patience, super careful and really attentive to detail. I took my first lesson at Castles beach, in Kailua and it was perfect spot for me as a beginner. The lesson starts from the very important basics: being able to carry my board from the car to the beach, getting to know each part of the board as well as warm-up and stretching exercises. We worked basic movements on the sand and then we went onto the water. He made the whole experience really smooth and enjoyable. I could stand-up and surf some waves on my first class.
