Atmosphere was a great, service was great but the halibut was overcooked, dry and our meals came at various times.

The good: the service, the ambiance, and the white balsamic/lemon dressing....seriously, it was really good. The not so good: the long wait, the value of the food, and the lack of a kids menu. They use a waiting list system and our window was 2-3 hrs. No worries, we'll show up at the 2hr mark and hope to get in. We ended up waiting the full three hours (from when we joined the wait list) before we were seated. Unfortunately they don't have much of a waiting area for customers, and there are a lot of people waiting given the popularity of the place. The cost of the food vs what you get is mixed. I got the market salad w/chicken, and while it was quite tasty, it wasn't large. The haddock was really big and tasty, according to my 17yo daughter. My wife got the seafood bake and was underwhelmed by the flavor and portion. Finally, the lack of kids menu was disappointing. I saw lots of children in the restaurant and most likely had the 22cad linguine, which was the most kid friendly item on the menu. Overall the Blue Mussel is a solid place to go, but customers with kids and those on a bit more of a budget should go there with their eyes wide open. read more

One of our top restaurants that we still remember from our trip this year. The weather was dismal and rainy all day, but the restaurant was absolutely charming and lifted our spirits. I loved the decor in the dining area, as it is in a large enclosed patio that is rustic and nautical. The staff are friendly and the food was amazing. After days of eating fried food, we were so grateful to find out that they don't fry their seafood here. Their pan fried haddock is batter but not deep fried, so the amazing flavors of the batter stays on the fish but isn't greasy at all. I also had the Seafood bubbly bake which was so creamy and delicious. We got a pack of their seafood seasoning to bring home so we could extend the 'visit' later. I would definitely come back to eat here again. Reservations highly recommended as they are popular with both locals and tourists alike. read more

Quite possibly the best lobster I have ever eaten in my life! The waiters are all super friendly here and the vibe is just perfect with the lighting. I had a glass of white wine with the Lobster Thermidor, and I enjoyed every single bite! We've always felt that the Blue Mussel was really a great experience and we tried to go there tonight. Even though they were open till 9 PM, and it was 6:00 PM you have to still get on their online waitlist and it said "the waitlist is closed". What they didn't say was that the restaurant was entirely full and they weren't accepting anyone else. We drove there not knowing that and were told at the front that we couldn't get in. Well, that pissed me off! Because I can see if a place is full, but they should've answered the phone and then someone would've told us that they were full, but that's how they want to do business - everything's online, no personal contact with staff by voice, no one answering the phone. For that, I give them a 1 out of 5. And also my wife and daughter got really sick there two years ago eating oysters! Oh, they gave us $100 gift certificate. Thank you! If you feel like I do and don't want to play their "no reservations" game, then go to the Rustico Cannery. The food and the staff are great, and they answer the phone! read more

Ben at the Anne of green gables bookstore told us to try Blue mussel cafe at North Rustico. Great advice. We sat at the bar in the back. Had a great view of the Harbour. Loved the bartenders. Kept coming across this, and, after biking much of the National Park, this was just down the hill, and sounded perfect. It was. Got there around 3p, so between lunch and dinner crowds. Waitress was willing to give advice, always appreciated. Ended up with mussels, classic prep. Delicious, perfectly cooked. It was a generous serving. Halibut was fresh caught that morning, and recommended by the waitress. It was amazing, like eating a perfectly cooked (fish) steak. The salad that came with it was equal to the fish with wonderful colour and a delicious dressing. This meal was a standout! read more

Always come here when I visit the island. Food is always second to none. Atmosphere and service are always great. It is pricey but worth every penny and still not as pricey as the sub par food at the nearby all you can eat buffet. I will return again and again. Advice: it's very busy, so avoid peak times and join the wait list before you leave to drive here and you might be able to avoid the wait. When I came here in a Thursday night recently, we were a party of six and no wait list at 4:00pm when we departed (4:30 ETA) for an early dinner. 4:15 we checked again on the way and added to wait list and we were forth in line. 4:28 we got a text that our table was ready so we waited less than 1 min when we arrived at 4:30. They were busy at that time, but all six of us agreed that this was the best Meal by far on the island. read more

Food was alright not what I was expecting. Not happy with the service. We had our name at 1:30 on waiting list for supper which was staring at 4 pm and were told if we go back at 4 we can be seated right away. We were back sharp at 4 but almost whoever came in were taken inside or were sent to the pre restaurant (which I will explain at the end of my review) And after 25 min and asking 4 times and getting upset we were taken inside beside washroom . During the whole time we were asked only once to see if we need anything.we had salmon which had parasites .the lobster was ok but only half a lobster . Linguine was salty but ok.Food here is over rated.Oyster was good but lobster roll was cold we had better one in NB. The thing about this restaurant that was questionable was anyone no matter when arrived were told 40 min wait and they had a side open space that were offered to everyone to seat and eat /drink while waiting ,which we did and we paid 80$ already for 6 oyster(21$) a lobster roll and a beer. This place is full of people and they don't take reservation. We went there at 1:30pm on Wednesday and told the wait is about 40mins (they use yelp waiting system, and you can cancel it anytime), after all it's not so bad because we went to the beach nearby to kill time. We sat down and ordered mussels, chef selection Pasta with scallop and bacon, seafood chowder grill cheese for the kids, and blue mussel lager. Service is excellent, portion is great and lots of seafood considered the price is more expensive than others, but it is quite salty or rich maybe because they put a lot of spice together. 1 star is deducted from there. Steam mussel highly recommend, it's very fresh. View is gorgeous and I love deco inside the restaurant. read more

The crème de la crème of seafood from all the places I sampled during my maritime tour. This is a very cute restaurant about 30 minutes from the Anne of Green Gables museum most tourists visit during their PEI stay. My cousins and I split the seafood chowder poutine (my favorite of everything we had), 2 lobster rolls, and a half dozen oysters (the most underwhelming but is just the nature of oysters in general in my opinion). Everything was fresh, timely, and appropriately portioned. It was also a nice day and the patio seating added the touch of whimsy that made this meal memorable. read more
