This was our go to breakfast spot for a years despite the long wait times. The past few times however have changed my mind. The quality of the food has seriously fallen off and portion sizes have become smaller. Recently, everything we've ordered has had an off-putting citrus taste to it as well. Not sure if it's some type of grill cleaner or something. Whatever it is, it's turned our recent meals from mediocre to poor. On a Monday morning, there were only two couples eating indoors. We wanted to eat outside. There was one table of two available. The waitress said, "oh you can't sit outside, we are short staffed". Really? You can't step out for less than 1minute walk? It's sad that some restaurants are struggling, and we want out best to help those restaurants by supporting them. Oh my goodness, we LOVE this place. Brunch is to die for and the constant flow of people attests to that. Food: The menu here is huge with lots of tasty sounding dishes and some new twists that I haven't seen anywhere else. Unfortunately their execution was not great. I got French toast stuffed with Nutella with brûléed bananas on top. Thee dish looked amazing but did not taste very good. The bananas all tasted old (maybe just from the heat during cooking). And there was so much Nutella in the French toast that it overpowered all over flavors to the point where I didn't finish my breakfast because I could stand taking on more bite of Nutella. I'm also not sure what exactly caused it but I got some stomach cramps after eating here. Service: They were nice but inattentive. The table was quite small and I tried to stack up the empty dishes/cups to make room but it was impossible to get anyone to come over to the table and onCe they did they just left with out taking the dishes. I love this place so much we have been going every weekend for at least 2 years. It is a quaint local breakfast restaurant with consistently great tasting food,and service. The prices although not cheap are reasonable. Kristen the owner is always in good spirits and checks on everyone. Since we pretty much go when it first opens we only see her and Josee and Abby all of whom are wonderful. You will not be disappointed if you go there. read more

I really enjoyed this place. Street parking which could be a challenge but there were 4-5 open spots when I got there. Seat yourself. Wait staff was great. I ordered French toast, corned beef hash, bacon and a healthy juice. French toast was great. Regular slices of bread but cooked well and tasted great. Bacon was solid. Blue Moon passed my most critical diner test: The coffee was hot, not watered down, and the attentive staff came back to the table 3 times without being asked for to refill my cup, which never got cold. The menu has many differnt breakfast options to chose from. I ordered the vegatbale scamble, which came with homefries, toast and pleanty of vegatables. I added black beans to the scamble for an extra $1. The plate was hot; the food plentiful. With an 18% tip I paid just over $20, which I belive in these inflationary times is a better vaule than some other resturants I've been to. The one criticism I have is that the toast was only warmed, not toasted. But I will know to ask to have it taosted brown the next time I go back. read more

Blue Moon Grill is a rather small breakfast & lunch spot on Main Street in Wakefield by the Greenwood Plaza. Parking out on the main street is limited to an hour on Mon - Sat 8am - 6pm except Sundays and Holidays, so be sure to read the signage and watch the clock. We took advantage of their call ahead seating (781-245-4470), yet we still had to wait nearly 20 minutes for the party at our table to depart - after all, the staffers could only do so much. They must be used to folks waiting, however, as there were chairs scattered about on the sidewalk before the Blue Moon Grill as well as before the business beside it for people to make themselves comfy at. Once inside, we realized just how tight the space was - they filled it with as many tables and chairs as they could reasonably. I felt like I was part of a dance as I wiggled my way through the dining area, past where the front of house staffers congregate when they aren't out serving the clientele, and through the tiny kitchen to the single person bathroom. Service was pleasant and water and coffee topped off with enough frequency. But when we were wanting additional utensils or what not, it took a little more effort to get someone's attention. On the whole, brunch here is a pleasant experience, but not transcendental. Yet, how often is one seeking a transcendental experience at brunch? Portions were filling. Prices easy on the wallet. Food ranging from good to really good. Sweet tooth as I am, I heartily enjoyed the Strawberry Shortcake Stuffed French Toast $9.50 (French Toast stuffed with cream cheese and topped with fresh strawberries and whip cream) and the Banana Nutella Roasted Walnut Crepes $9.95 (Three savory crepes stuffed with roasted walnuts, bananas & chocolate hazelnut nutella). I especially enjoyed the nice burst of creamy sweetness from the cream cheese center of the french toast and the textural difference from the walnuts in contrast with the creamy goodness of the bananas and nutella and the soft blanket of the crepe itself. It was really real crabmeat in the Crabmeat Eggs Benedict $10.95 (Eggs Benedict claw crabmeat, add asparagus or tomato topped with hollandaise sauce served with home fries) and quite generous at that. Though I may have preferred the Sweet Potato Omelette $9.95 (Sweet potato, cheddar cheese & caramelized onion topped with tarragon sauce served with home fries and your choice of toast) in terms of our two savory (relatively) selections. I definitely preferred the home fries crispy over the home fries regular, but then I tend to like a bit of crisp on my spuds. It also would have been nice if there were some sort of additional spreading selection for our already buttered toast such as some jams and jellies. But I do admit, I hadn't asked - perhaps they have some hidden out back? But only ketchup and syrup was on the table (and sugars, salt & pepper). To all that, we added a side of ham $2.75, which arrived as two slices, and coffee (bottomless!) $2.50. Yup, everything was pretty good. The only really annoying thing was the unwanted guest we had buzzing around our food. But I guess you could say we got some exercise waving it away every so often. They are open every day - that's except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a week of vacation - not sure when that is. So if you have any question, you might want to call ahead to check. Let me start by saying that service was amazing. Our waitress was attentive and polite. But the food was subpar. Nine times out of ten I'm ordering a Benedict, so I know my way around one. The English muffin was toasted well, but the egg on one was not poached properly. The worst crime with a Benedict is messing up the hollandaise sauce. This homemade sauce was split. Yuck. I've decided to try the breakfast over here today. In my opinion there's not enough breakfast places around here, at least to my knowledge so here we go... I confess I was expecting a better experience, check out the pictures, saw 4 stars but didn't read the reviews. First impression: Parking Warning Big and Numerous. There's enough signs to leave you no room for excuses in case you're towed for parking at the plaza to the left of the place. Intuitively that's where you go for parking, but no, consider yourself warned. Second: Cozy place, quick to attend and to seat a party of two at a Saturday morning. Third: Huge menu, a lot to choose from. Never seen so many options for breakfast. Fourth: Loud! Dishes, kitchen, people walking, people talking, waiter banging chairs in place... it's understandable, it's a tight space, but not calm enough for my particular taste. Fifth: I had the Steak and eggs. Not too bad but my biggest disappointment in this whole experience, wrong sides and dry steak. I was going to give 4 but... 4 starts is too much. read more

I do not really enjoy breakfast food but recently came here for brunch and loved it! The food was fresh, delicious, and generously portioned, and the staff was kind and friendly. The vegetables tasted fresh, not frozen, and the sides were all amazing. My only complaints are: the coffee is mediocre (always tough to get a good cup at most places so no unique fault here); they overcooked the ribeye; and the interior is quite small, so plan accordingly. I've been to Blue Moon Grill twice and both times there's been a moderate wait. However, you can call ahead to let them know you're coming. It's a very small restaurant and you are cramped by the door while you wait. It's fine during warmer weather and you can hang out outside, but terrible in the winter. Huge menu with TONS of options! Their pancakes ARE SO GOOD. Each time I've gotten chocolate chip pancakes and they're all I can think about. I don't know what it is, but they're extra doughy and delicious. I've also tried the potato skin breakfast special (I forget what it's called) it was really good but overshadowed by the amazing pancakes. The second time I went to Blue Moon Grill I brought my grandma and she ordered the 3-C's panini. She loved it and went back for another one a week later. They don't have a parking lot and you're forced to park on the street which is not ideal. read more

My friends and I were very excited to try the Blue Moon Grill, but unfortunately, we left very disappointed. After a 45 minute wait, me and my two friends were crammed into a two person table in the corner of the diner. We were honestly unbothered by it, though, since it was a Sunday afternoon and we figured they'd be busy. But our waitress was one of the rudest servers I've ever had. She didn't stop to say her name or mention any specials--our first interaction with her was her yelling over the noise in the restaurant, "What drinks do you want?" She came back to take our orders later, and once she finished, my friends realized they had messed up their orders. When we flagged down our waitress, she rolled her eyes and said "wait a second" and walked away. When she came back, my friend corrected her order but stumbled over her words a bit. The waitress got frustrated and ripped the paper off of her notepad, crumpled it up in front of us, and rewrote my friend's order while saying it back in a condescending tone. My friends and I are all in our young twenties, so we know the stress of waiting tables and were as kind and easy going as possible. Her demeanor was really upsetting. I know that the diner was busy, but I don't think it's an excuse for that sort of attitude. My friends and I enjoyed our food--it was great, actually--but we were thrown off by the attitude of our server and likely won't return to Blue Moon Grill. What a lovely place! SO and I went here mainly because this is one of few places that have gluten free bread which gives me many more options when I eat. It was a cozy, homey, vibe, our waitress was very sweet, and our food was not only delicious but came out quick. Blue Moon grill is a small restaurant located in Wakefield close to Stoneham were I live. So far I have had breakfast there once and lunch once (both times I was accompanied by my wife, daughter, granddaughter & son) and we all loved it! Breakfast is the main attraction here for most, I got Nonna's Special which I truly enjoyed because it was very tasty but it also reminded me of the great frittatas my own grandfather who we called "Noni" made when I was growing up that I miss so much. My daughter who is on a gluten free diet got the Peanut Butter Delight pancakes ( I tried some and wouldn't have known they were gluten free they were excellent)! On my lunch visit I got the Northeast Regional panini which was definitely one of the BEST PANINIS I have ever had. The ciabatta bread was delicious & nicely pressed, the hummus spread was a perfect compliment to the turkey, cheese & avocado ( I ordered mine without the red onions) and the homemade onion rings I got with it were OUTSTANDING, nice big onion rings, not greasy or frozen, they were fresh and had just the right amount of batter & cooked perfectly! Service was great both times, the servers were very pleasant and were crazy about my beautiful 2 month old granddaughter. Excellent place for both breakfast AND lunch!!! read more

Honestly it doesn't deserve 1 star, maybe 2.5, but this is more about balancing the 4 stars they have. I wrote a review years ago about their seating practices and the favoritism and call-in line cutting for a facility that's far too small to support that strategy. On two occasions I waited very long times which was exasperated by seating huge parties that the staff seemed intimate with. The second time this occurred coupled with others having a similar experience had me abandoning them for several years. We decided (mostly my wife decided) to give them another chance today. She told me I was vindicated. Our food took a long time to arrive. At the point we became aware and folks in my party began grumbling, we noticed several tables that arrived before us did not have food. Two tables were knocking back beers mimosas and Bloody Mary's (possibly filling a gap in their current business model). I'm not sure when they scored the liquor license but I'm sure it's relaxed the need to turn over tables and maintain consistent quality. The food here used to be excellent. When they first opened they gave little cups of complimentary fresh fruit. That's long gone. More recently they abandoned the mashed potato hash browns which were fantastic. If you've ever been to soundbytes in ball square in Somerville, they have them and it's the best breakfast potato side ever, these are now gone. I digress, anyway there was a family who sat down 10-15 minutes before us, and their daughter, understandably had a melt down waiting for food. At this point that family went to complain. Shortly after their food came out. Our food came out afterwards, more than an hour late one plate a time. One item was wrong and they insisted that was what was written down. (French toast instead of pancakes) I told them I was fine with the French Toast which they insisted on replacing it and giving me extra pancakes which I didn't plan to eat. We almost paid for our coffee and left prior to getting our food, it was minutes away. I realize these are challenging times for restaurants with staffing. We were polite the whole time. I didn't really complain, except my food (except for the incorrect French toast) at one point had not arrived and they were ready to be done with our order. I patiently let them know I was still waiting for the rest of my order. Blue Moon seems to have bitten off more than it can chew. Previously the service washed rushed, sort of cold/impersonal, and there was favoritism in seating but the food was excellent. It wasn't a good trade off for me, for some it might have been. Currently the service is poor and the food is mediocre. The staff needs to sit down and go through strategy to reboot, focus, make things work again. The wait staff and kitchen couldn't keep up. Maybe the outside seating is too much to handle. Maybe the menu has gotten too complex. At the end of the day this place might have good margins catering to the alcohol brunch crowd and the convenient location. Maybe quality isn't important as long as they are making money. This is the1st time we had awful service. Usually the food and service are excellent. We placed our order and watched as the table next to us, who arrived after us, finished and paid for their meal before ours was received. My sweet potato side was supposed to be all dressed but wasn't but I was still charged $2.95 for it. My friend's pancakes looked plain with no butter or fruit to decorate the plate. One friends coffee was cold. The water I requested before ordering the meal, came after I asked a 2nd time, after the food was delivered. Overall not impressed. What happened? read more

Do NOT park in the parking lot next door. You will get towed. There's a ton of street parking! The dining area fits a lot of tables but crowded. It's a tight squeeze to get into my seat. If you're an indecisive person, you'll want to spend some time looking at the menu BEFORE you come. They have so much to pick from, you might eat with your eyes instead. That'll be painful for your wallet! I ordered the sweet morning stuffed French Toast! Added extra berries because the more the merrier! The plating is beautiful! It doesn't taste like your typical French Toast. They added this cream cheese spread between the toast. Wow who knew cream cheese was good with french toast? Went here with my girlfriend for brunch last Sunday. This place was awesome! Small little diner vibes. We each got a drunken juice and an iced coffee. Both were fantastic.
