I interviewed Tom Foster, the owner, and was pleased with his sincerity and appreciation for my ideas. We worked together to form a design that pleased us both. From the first morning when Tom and his crew arrived on the property, they were absolutely professional in creating my ideal garden. In fact, Aqua-Terra has been the most professional business that I have hired since coming to Chico. The crew was always on time, worked extremely hard throughout the day and was always pleasant and accommodating. I cannot say enough good about the excellent results. Tom continues to check back with me to make certain that everything is doing well and, twice, he and his crew have returned to adjust the water fountain when it became clogged with debris. I got a call from him letting me know they had another job starting in a week or two that would keep them busy through the start of the new year. If I want them to do my yard before then they would need to start asap and the job would take a week. We started w/o any written contract and only a rough $$ estimate. We made decisions along the way. They took twice as long, and a lot of down time due to various resource issues. They did a good job and I was happy with the result, until spring when about 40% of the plants did not take root through winter and were dead by spring. When I called Tom about that his response was a curt I only guarantee the plants, I can't remember if it was 6 weeks or 3 months, but the time had passed and he offered nothing for a resolution. That's a lot of plants and $$$ and hardly seems fair since it was his recommendation to plant in November to ensure nice growth for spring and strong plants that can tolerate summer and you don't at least guarantee they will be taking off come spring. That was the last time I talked to him since he didn't seem to care that so many plants died. A few more have died and never really thrived. While others in the same location with the same watering requirements etc., thrive. So it's not neglect on my part.

Mike's Yard Care was supposed to fix a leak in the sprinkler system of the house we bought. The…read moreprevious owner had paid them and they were supposed to fix it. After we moved in, I found there was still a leak, so Mike's, who had been paid to fix it, was called to come back out and fix it. Mike came out and looked at it and promised to come back the next day and fix it. He did not show up. A few days later I texted him and he said that he forgot about me. He then promised to come fix it "in a day or two." Several days later he did send a guy out to dig a little around the box. That guy said that his boss would be out the next day to fix it. He didn't show and he didn't call or text. After 3 or 4 days I sent him a text. His reply after stringing me along for two weeks was, "Sorry for the inconvenience, you are going to have to find someone else." I was and still am incredulous. I cannot imagine anybody treating customers that way, let alone walking away from a job like that. I did find an excellent company who came out and did the job, no thanks to Mike's. One star is too high, I wish there was an option for zero stars for Mike's Yard Sevice. They are terrible, DO NOT hire Mike's Yard Care for anything.

I called Butte Landscaping and Tom said, sure we'll look into it ... he came out Thursday afternoon to assess the situation, said he'd be back Friday ... and he was ... they had to saw through the sidewalk and move the excised piece (intact) and replaced the broken pipes, rerouting them for easier access in case something happened later on ... he replaced the slab that was cut and all was again happy in our household ... after all the trouble trying to get anyone to do anything here we were well pleased with Tom and his crew and their quick response to our problem ...

I will start by saying I am devastated to have to give such a poor review of a local company…read more My family and I have always used Focal Point. In the past few years something has changed. I had family members stop using them as they claimed the yards delivered were consistently short. Due to their customer service and family nature- I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. Long story short- I ordered 3/4 "clean" black chip in the quantity of 2 yards. It showed up and while it looked rather blue and light- I was told it was black chip rock. Despite my reservations I accepted it and moved on. A mere 4 days later- I ordered an additional yard of the exact same product to the front area adjacent. It showed up and was a COMPLETELY different color. We are talking a 30-50% variance in color, not a natural variance as they kept reiterating on the phone. Upon checking their website- we were absolutely delivered sierra blue rock the first go around. Rather than owning their mistake- I received a call back from the owner insisting he was right and giving me the riot act of excuses. He also mentioned another house he had botched with 5 yards of material and told me "the bad review wasnt worth fixing it." This was after speaking to the wife and repeatedly being asked "well what do you want us to do about it." I finally got the husband to agree to give me the weekend and "drop off some buckets of the lighter color to mix in if your still unhappy" I gave it the weekend, and rinsed the rock several times as instructed by the owner despite ordering "clean" rock. It did nothing, its absolutely the wrong rock. Upon calling- I was now told despite the rinsing and giving it the weekend and texting pictures of what is CLEARLY a different rock. A refund was the best they would do and I needed to drive down there to get it. Not only that, but the delivery would NOT be refunded, because "that happened." No buckets of rock, no replacement yard, no offer to pick up their mistake. In fact, during the refund the owner said "I really dont think i should do this" to imply they still werent wrong. I really hope YELP allows me to post a photo after this to show you all how distasteful the lack of ownership was. USE SUTHERLAND DESPITE THEIR FLAWS.

They put in plants we didn't even pick out. We were told them would put down weed preventer before finishing our front yard and it's now full of weeds. We had to reach out to them most every week to see if they are were going to show up for work that day. Very frustrating and we ended up going with someone else to complete our front yard who had it done in two weeks. Wouldn't recommend them unless you don't care when the work is completed.

The job involved a very big, unlandscaped backyard that needed a lot of love. Bonafacio checked in with us daily; sometimes multiple times a day to make sure everything was going as scheduled. They landscaped with crushed rock, wood chips and larger rocks to create dry creek beds and laid out our beautiful sod lawn, complete with sprinkler system. They also planted trees and numerous plants with drip line irrigation. They enlarged our existing patio with matching, stamped concrete. They are also on retainer to mow and edge both of our lawns, which they did a wonderful job on. We appreciate all they did for us!!!

I never heard from him again even after calling a second time. I can only assume that the job was too big for him to handle or he wasn't interested. In business, communication is very important.
