After a sewer line replacement that consequently cut through multiple irrigation lines, Ben's crew spent an incredible efficient 4 days re-excavating the front lawn, repairing the irrigation, then converting the dull grass to an attractive low-maintenance, rock and foliage landscape. They did a good job updating my yard (from grass to rock), but there are a couple things I wasn't happy about. The first two points are maybe no one's fault (though I'm frustrated about them), but the third point is a very valid complaint! 1. Partially my fault for not doing my own research, but I had asked them if I would be able to leaf-blow the rocks because I get a lot of leaves in the fall. They said yes, but that has not been true. Because I went with lava rock, using the leaf blower just blows the rock. I would have gone with heavier rock if I had known I wasn't going to be able to use the leaf blower. Again, partially my fault, but I figured when you ask an expert something that they'd tell you the truth. 2. I had wanted a simple flagstone walkway, but was told it was much more expensive than creating a walkway with small rock (see the pics of what it looks like). I asked about if there would be any issue with the small rock washing away or anything like that and was told no because it'll be tamped down. It has been hell trying to keep the walkway looking nice. A cat in the neighborhood uses it as a litter box and the squirrels dig in it. So, I constantly and picking up cat poop and filling in the holes in the walkway. 3. This one is the biggest issue: they covered up my sewer clean out!! If I hadn't known where it was before, I never would have found it. They completely covered it with dirt, landscape fabric, and the rocks! read more

We had a challenging landscape need in our backyard. We have a nice backyard with a pool and a fantastic outdoor kitchen. Problem was with 5 large Redwoods we had trouble getting anything to show healthy growth. Ben gave us some alternatives which made sense and we proceeded with the project. The work crew were very professional and did a great job. Making sure after each day that all the tools were put away and the yard cleaned up. Ben suggested a wall where we could raise the soil level so plants could get water before it being drained by the redwoods. We ended up having the wall put in and the yard planted with about 75 plants. We also add a lighting system which highlights the wall and the redwood trees. Now with the heat wave we are somewhat concerned that some of the plants might not make it . But Ben has guaranteed the plants and has been by a couple of times since the project was completed. We asked Ben to redesign our front yard and he came up with a low water, low maintenance, and beautifully planted area with a working water stream, travertine walkway and perfect bushes and trees that fit the area! My wife and I have been working with Ben and his crew at Blue Oak for over 5 years. They turned a 30 by 100 foot flat, ugly lawn into a lovely backyard sanctuary for us. The process was delightfully collaborative: we would describe our vision, Ben would work with it, add his ideas, and come back with a proposal. After several iterations, we had the design we wanted. Ben and his crew: Felix, Logan, Bernie and (at the time), Sean, were skilled, professional, and great to be around. Our yard turned out wonderful, complete with a waterfall and a 30 foot stream around two sides of our raised and covered pergola. The other landscaping is beautiful with trees and plants that always have something in bloom. Since then we have used Blue Oak for a couple of smaller projects which have also worked out well. We are in a newly constructed house which did not have backyard landscaping. Along with dirt flying everywhere, we had serious drainage issues. When I first met with Ben, I was impressed with his careful investigation of our problem. He is very knowledgeable and his solution was sound. His crew did such a thorough job, we were very impressed. We decided to add more work to the bill and Ben was accommodating. We had Blue Oak Landscaping rip out our concrete pad and install a travertine patio. It is absolutely beautiful! Logan (the supervisor for our site) was very conscientious about the installation. In addition to the patio, we had them install a pergola, water feature, and vegetation. Logan really worked with us to build a child friendly water feature, which our children love! I contacted Ben to come see our house for a project. We scheduled a time, and I had to reschedule. He showed to the second appointment late, as he didn't change the time in his calendar. He gave some initial quotes. 3 weeks later we scheduled a meeting to have him come and move forward with the project. He never showed up, or called. He also gave me one quote, and then 3 weeks later claimed he would have "never" quoted that amount, saying it would be at least double. I didn't even call him back to attempt to reschedule. read more
