That shop's manager has now opened Lake State Mountaineering with similar wares and similar values. So we're talking high quality canoeing, climbing, camping, and hiking gear from a combination of large, small, and local vendors. They have a website you can order from, but if you want to browse in person and get knowledgeable advice from this passionate crew, you can pop into the shop. They have some pretty high-end merchandise, but I'm seeing some tempting sale offers and they have a rental program that might help you get kitted out for an adventure. This storefront location might be tricky to find at first. Enter through the building's Washington Avenue door, next to the barber shop, then follow the signs through the door there and up the stairs, where you'll spot them. I promise there's a nice store up there! You're on your own for parking but it's easy enough to find metered street parking. If you want to properly gear up for this kind of activity and want the best equipment, sold to you be a locally-owned store who will give you honest recommendations that come from deep experience, this is where to go.

We did have a few hiccups after purchase to run to two other stores which proved to be unnecessary. So that was a bit disappointing to have incorrect inventory information. When we went to pick up the bikes in Coon Rapids, the young man gave us the bare minimum pointers about bike usage, we have never owned prior. We ended up having to take a 3rd trip to the Vadnais Heights store and then recieved top notch 5 star help from the associate Mark O'Melia. He REALLY took the time to explain all functions of the bikes and helped us set up the Aventon App. He eas through, knowledgeable and friendly. This is when we really became comfortable and confident in our purchases. He is an EXCELLENT representative of your company and exceeds any service we have had in years. Our only issue was with the 2 additional trips that we feel no one really did much about and I feel as should have been compensated somehow. We came here on a suggestion for skateboard/longboard. We've been to one other store and it was meh. Trevor was our stellar longboard master help this evening. He was SO knowledgeable and patient with us. We easily sucked up almost 2 hours of his time. He went above and beyond in my opinion for customer service. We walked out with a beautiful put together long board that my daughter felt great about as a beginner- wheel color & type, bearings, & truck color of her choice- all switched out by this cool dude- Free of charge for him to give her exactly what she wanted to boot! Plus all the tools and padding needed for her to get started with. The rest of this store...now I'll admit that I have t been in too many store like this but it seems to me they have a lot of great things to offer for multiple type of "sports". Frisbee golf, water sport, winter sports... They even carry some hats, fun gloves, backpacks, sunglasses, and even summer flip flops! I'm in love with Smartwool socks, I try to find them on clearance through the outlet section of the app and pick them up at the store. Sometimes they have them on clearance here but not usually. The brands are great...nice, quality things do cost more but they also last longer. The REI brand is really good too, a little more affordable than Marmot, The North Face, Arc'teryx, etc without giving up too much on quality. It's worth it to become a member, one time $20 fee for a 10% dividend on purchases to use in store. Something about coming in makes me want to be more of an outdoors person and buy stuff I don't really need.
