My son has started his piano lessons with Taryn from July 2020 remotely through zoom. I still can not believe how the remote setting worked out so well. Taryn teaches with her heart with tons of patience. Her timely encouragements are truly effective and motivates my son to do his best between the sessions. She has recital programs every few months, were each time I get so emotional to see my son among other of her students play so well, with elegance and grace. I never thought I would learn the violin. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks but I'm 32 and just played violin for my wife at our wedding (first look). Taryn originally taught me how to play in person and then because of COVID we continued lessons via zoom. I learned how to play Clarie De Lune which is my favorite song and then she taught me how to play Carnival of the Animals (my wives favorite song). I am 34 years old and had never played an instrument before in my life, but for some reason I got the idea into my head that I wanted to learn to play "our song" on the piano as a surprise to propose to my girlfriend. The song is a bit complicated; it's the Regina Spektor arrangement of John Lennon's lost classic "Real Love." I e-mailed every piano teacher I could find in the Hollywood/Glendale/Burbank areas and asked if it was possible to learn this song in ten weeks, so that I could propose on our anniversary. Within a few hours, I had collected several rejections from teachers who told me this dream simply was not possible for a beginner such as myself (others never answered me at all). But before the end of the day, Taryn sent me a very enthusiastic message, telling me all the details about her lessons and that she was excited to help me go for it! Just three days later, I had my first piano lesson at Blue Jam Music Studio. Taryn was awesome! She had the sheet music all ready and knew the piece back to front in preparation. She was exceedingly patient in my complete ignorance to anything musical, and she was able to quickly adapt to my personal learning style. Over the next ten weekly lessons, she challenged me just enough and was unflappable at times when I was frustrated with myself. She walked me through my nervousness and tone-deafness to learn to sing on key for the first time in my life. A mere two and a half months after we began this journey, I had the ultimate performance! I surprised my girlfriend by sitting down at a grand piano and surreptitiously launching into our song. Her face was priceless! She said yes, and our big moment went off without a hitch, all thanks to Taryn's teaching ability and wonderful spirit. The first time I played violin was in 2nd grade. The second hand 1/2 size was almost too big, but I loved it! For years I played in school and in high school decided to take private lessons. I wish Taryn had been my first private instructor... unfortunately, she was probably only 13 years old at the time. Who I got instead, was a strict, humorless jerk that constantly insulted my performances. I began to hate practicing and dreaded my lessons. At 16 I thought my love affair with the violin was over. Fast forward about 15 years - I was given a brand new bow as a 31st birthday gift from a friend. I pulled out my old love and began to play. "Rusty", is a very sweet way to describe the sound that came out. I needed an instructor. Through a friend I heard about Taryn, and decided to give one on one instruction a chance again. Patient, passionate, professional and talented... that is Taryn. Her love of instruments is infectious. Song by song, movement by movement, she's been leading me through my favorite operetta, Porgy and Bess for the last 6 months. After receiving a guitar for my birthday I was set on learning to play. I tried the usual "learn to play an instrument on Youtube" technique which failed miserably. Finally, I took to Yelp and found Taryn at Blue Jam. My first lesson with Taryn was so fun and she was very inviting. Taryn has a way of easily mixing friendship in with lessons and learning, I felt so at ease and looked forward to my next lesson. Since then, I have continued lessons with Taryn for almost a year and I see no end in sight! Taryn works to make each lesson enjoyable while she teaches technique and also encourages students to pick out songs they want to learn to play. So far I have mastered the (beginners version) of many Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Oasis songs-many of my favorite bands! I took six months of piano at age 11 and found it very stressful. Now as a senior citizen, I decided to try it again. Taryn is very easygoing, always cheerful and an amazing teacher. I took piano lessons with Taryn for a few months before leaving her studio because of school but it was the best few months with her. She was patient with me despite my slight frustrations with myself in the techniques I had to learn. I definitely enjoyed learning with her the Pokemon pieces I wanted to know how to play as a side on top of the lessons she had for me. I feel much more confident with my piano skills after taking her lessons and applying what I have learned since then as I continue on this journey. My daughter has been taking piano and voice lessons from Taryn for about 4 years...or something like that. She had lessons from another teacher before, but Taryn is the best!
