They ignored calls/emails and when he finally got in touch with them they said the delivery truck was still out until 8 pm but the delivery never came. This place has terrible reviews going back ten years on Google and Yelp. I would not rely on them for anything important. Shut down the online portion of your business if you can't handle it. Edit: delivery was a day late but they were very apologetic and brought a box of chocolate to make up for it so I will bump it up to 3 from 1. Took my money without actually giving me a product/fulfilling order. Ordered flowers the week before Valentines for pickup on Valentines (approx. $92 order due to greater than $10 in tip). Arrived on Valentines to pickup and waited in line for over 2 hours. Got put into a "pickup" group of people because none of the preorders had actually been made. After another hour, I asked if they even had my flowers in stock which they replied they had never been ordered to begin with. Essentially I waited 3 hours in line for them to tell me they never ordered or made the arrangement from the previous weeks order. I told them I wanted a refund on Valentines Day for my preorder. I asked for a cash refund due to expecting a charge and I was told they wouldn't charge me since they never ordered. Turns out they did charge me. I requested they refund me, which Blue Iris responded that I had to dispute the charges with my debit card company. The company acknowledged they didn't fulfill the order, but wouldn't give me the money back without talking to the bank. I tried to file a dispute online with the bank, but had to call. Of course the bank is closed after normal business hours. I now have to call during my work day to dispute the charges with my bank. They took my money, and now I have to fight to get a refund from my bank rather than who I tried to provide my business to, after having to convince my wife that the flowers I ordered for her a week in advance were just ignored by the company. Mixed bouquets (already designed by the lovely ladies that work there) are about $12. Other flowers are priced by the flower or the bunch. There are loads of flowers to mix and match your own bouquets. Sunflowers, roses, mums, irises, daisys, peonies - so many options! The flowers are gorgeous, the prices are relatively inexpensive, the employees are pleasant and helpful and the flowers typically last at least a week. I'm definitely a happy customer. read more

I wanted to support some place local so I went to Blue Iris Flowers. The arranged bouquets for 15$ look great. If that's what I wanted I think I'd have left very happy. I asked about roses and they are 3$ per stem. I asked to order two bouquets of a dozen roses each. I didn't want much of an arrangement just some babies breath expecting to be charged another 5-10$ (Expectation was 3*12 = 36 +10 = 46 *2 = 92 dollars.) The woman behind the counter called someone to confirm. She then came back and told me that each bouquet would cost 85$ (Babies breath cost nearly twice the cost of a dozen roses???) On top of that, she wanted to charge 12 dollars to deliver the first bouquet and 10 dollars to deliver the second bouquet even though they are going to the exact same location. I'm sorry. I'd like to support a local business. I'd prefer not to get robbed. I won't return, even for the 15$ arrangements that looked just fine. read more

I'm really being gentle. I should give her 1 star. But she appears to be a very pleasant woman, and I'd feel bad giving her 1 star. But really, it's one star. Here's what happened. A friend of mine in Northeast recently had a baby. I thought I'd like to send her a nice, fancy, arrangement. I've done this in the past about ten times, with florists in about 3 countries, for friends that have new firstborn babies, using this procedure. It's always worked out great, and the arrangements that show up are fantastic, and there's never any problem. Applying this procedure this weekend led me to Blue Iris. I called her, she pleasantly answered the phone on Saturday morning, explained to me that the basic arrangements were $30 or $40, and I explained I wanted to spend three times that and get something more impressive. She said no problem, she would make a premium arrangement, etc, and deliver it that day. (Yesterday). So far, so good, that's exactly how this kind of phone call has gone for me in the past. Well, no one showed up to deliver anything, so an hour before she closed, I called her, asking, can you just confirm that the flowers are arriving? What's going on? She told me everything was fine, and the flowers would be delivered later on in the day. Well, they were NOT. No one called me, no one called the recipient. No one called anyone. The recipient was upset, as she was excited to receive the flowers, and was let down. Exactly what I *did not* want for a new mother. We both finished our day upset that the flowers had not been delivered, and with no communication of any kind from the proprietor. I call this morning, and she tells me that the "driver didn't feel safe in this neighborhood" and therefore didn't deliver the flowers (right. Both I, and the recipient of the flowers, are doctors. I am sure the neighborhood was horrifying! LOL). In the course of this phone call, she made absolutely no attempt to apologize, or other express regret at the disheveled business that was occurring. She just had an excuse. And, not a good one, nor a believable one. So while she DID deliver the flowers this morning, the arrangement the new mother was given was, in my opinion, sub-par and not very impressive in either quantity, arrangement, or selection. My main problems, then: * I just can't fathom that the flowers weren't delivered as promised. * I just can't fathom that no one, NO ONE, thought to call either the recipient or the buyer (i.e., me) yesterday to explain the situation. And this is ***AFTER*** I called expressing some concern that the flowers hadn't been delivered. * I'm not buying the explanation that the neighborhood was sketchy. I mean, it *IS* Washington DC, but this was up-and-coming hipster condos near Trinidad, not Anacostia. The only people the driver would have had to wade through on his way to the door would have been SWF's, as far as I know. Sure, it's near some unsavory parts of town, but not this address itself. * And after all of that, the endpoint was an arrangement that was really very average, badly overpriced, and nothing was done at all to assuage our irritation that the arrangement was not delivered as promised. I think I would have been OK had the flowers been as nice as others in this price range I have purchased, or had the woman thought to call me yesterday and explain why there was a delay, or had she decided to do something (preferably, more flowers) to compensate for the problems. But, no, she more or less expected me to be understanding of the driver's (alleged--like I said, it's a tough sell) unwillingness, and the idea that she would call and touch base with me either yesterday, or first thing this morning, seemed like a ridiculously foreign concept to her. Really, we are very disappointed. Other reviewers like this business, and felt they got good, friendly, service. But this was not my experience. This is the worst floral delivery experience, on a professionalism-based analysis, of my distinguished career in ordering flowers for new mothers. And the flowers were a bad value. I just hope this was an off day for her or something. read more

I used Blue Iris for two employees on their last day. They loved it. The arrangements were amazing and I only paid $30 each. They were so beautiful and overwhelming people in the building stopped me in my tracks. Flowers, especially roses, are expensive. You also pay for the convenience on Sunday. Besides its Capitol Hill expect to pay more or order online. I also might add I personally selected my flowers. When working with florists, they can take liberties if they don't have the stock. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I've been browsing yelp forever, but my experience here was so bad that I actually created an account for the first time to tell people about it. My girlfriend was flying in tonight at 6:30pm to visit me after us being apart for two months. It's Valentine's Day weekend. Given that I'm working 30 minutes away and only had time to just rush to BWI, I ran over to these people (they're in my neighborhood) early, like at 7:15am, and picked a bouquet for $45. It was supposed to come with a vase. To maximize freshness and to ensure my roommate was at home to pick up the flowers (so they would be ready before we got home), I asked for it to be delivered at 6pm. At 6:30pm, my roommate reports that despite sitting at the front door for the past hour, no flowers arrived. I call blue iris and ask them where the flowers are, they put me on hold for 5 minutes, then (without apologizing) ask if it's ok if they deliver the flowers now. I say yes, they hang up without a word. My roommate reports the delivery, but it 1) came without a vase (we just moved here, no vase in the apartment), and 2) was missing the smaller flowers I asked for to add volume to the bouquet, making the entire arrangement look...anemic. This would have been a complete disaster if it wasn't for my (amazing) roommate running to a different florist in the neighborhood, buying a vase, and triaging the incomplete arrangement with lilies before we got home. It was only 80% of a disaster at the end, because the emergency triage ended up costing an extra $40. Blue Iris, never again. A real pity too, I love shopping in Eastern Market. read more

I have seen Blue Iris's flowers, and they are nice. Which is why I called them to have a sympathy bouquet sent to a friend who lost a sibling - to boot, my friend lived only 6 blocks away from Blue Iris! I ordered in the AM for delivery that afternoon, yesterday, and asked them to confirm it would be delivered that afternoon. However, the next day (today) at noon I ran into my friend; rather than "thanks for the flowers," she said "I don't know whether you heard..." Very embarrassing! I picked up the phone to call Blue Iris and find out what happened just now. I dialed the number at 11:51, it rang for a while, I put it on speakerphone while I had my lunch in case they picked up, read some articles, etc. Finally at 1:54 someone picked up! I asked what was going on, they said it didn't go out yesterday, would probably be delivered sometime after 2:00 today. I noted how it was supposed to be yesterday and that I'd run into my friend, etc. No sorry at all. Just "it should show up today... thanks." If you want to physically buy flowers, I might recommend Blue Iris. If you want a delivery, I would go with a more reliable company. read more

My best friend had a death in the family, so I blindly chose this flower shop in DC off of Yelp because I live in Philadelphia. I was relieved to find out they were able to deliver my order that same day - Sunday. That was the one and only positive note I can make about Blue Iris. I requested an all white flower arrangement, something tastefully done and appropriate for a death in the family. When my friend and her husband received the arrangement later that day, I received a picture and a thank you phone call from them. Blue Iris sent an arrangement comprised of 9 hot pink roses with light pink wax flower accent pieces, it was bright and did not match the price ($70) or description I paid. My friend was thankful and it made her smile, that's what matters - but I think it's really inappropriate to take advantage of someone you know is calling from out of town. What's even more inappropriate is sending something that doesn't match the occasion - especially when someone has passed away. I called and voiced my opinion to the same woman I spoke to on Sunday. She responded with "ok so what do you want?" All around very disappointing. read more
