Washington Avenue, New York NY 10032 (part of Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital). My pickup was for 2 PM to arrive at an appointment scheduled for 3 PM. The ride from my home to the hospital usually takes about 30 minutes. However, at 2:29 PM the ambulette had still not arrived and I had not received any phone calls from Rainbow of when the ambulette might arrive. I called Rainbow, and was told that there was traffic and that the ambulette would be at my apartment in about 15 minutes. I called again at 2:49 PM when the ambulette still hadn't arrived. After being put on hold for about 10 minutes I was told that the ambulette was across the street from my apartment. I drove my wheelchair up to the ambulette and the ambulette driver was standing next to the vehicle smoking a cigarette. When I asked him why he was so late, he said he had just finished his break. He was unaware that my pickup was for 2 PM and that my appointment time was for 3 PM. Upon entering the ambulette (#35) I noticed that the lift was missing a safety belt. Upon securing my wheelchair in the ambulette, he secured a lap belt but neglected to attach a shoulder belt. On the ride over to the hospital the driver made a dangerous U-turn, was speeding, and tailgated a vehicle ahead of him at a red light. Lastly, I noticed that the check engine light was on in the car's dashboard. I arrived at the hospital at 3:30 and was half-an-hour late for my appointment. Luckily, the doctor had enough time to see me. After finishing my appointment at 5:30 PM, I called Rainbow Ambulette to be transported back to my apartment and was told an ambulette would be at 180 Ft. Washington Avenue in 45 minutes to an hour. At 6:40 PM the ambulette still had not arrived and so I called Rainbow. I was told that the driver had had to drive all the way from the Lower East Side of Manhattan, had encountered traffic and was now in the vicinity of 125 Street and should arrive soon. The driver finally arrived at 7:15, and instead of apologizing for being late, said that I should be grateful that he was working overtime. The ride back to my house was uneventful but I did notice that the vehicle (#40) also had the check engine light lit up on the dashboard. Again, the lift did not have a safety belt on it. Throughout my saga that day I was struck by the lack of professionalism and lateness of your drivers, the bad condition that your vehicles are in, and the ineptitude and abysmal customer service of your dispatchers. In terms of customer service I was not called once by Rainbow to tell me that they vehicle was late or on its way, or to apologize for the lateness of the drivers. The ambulette was an hour late for my inbound trip and was 45 minutes late for my outbound trip. The traffic that my drivers experienced did not seem to be factored into my pickup times. As evidenced by the check engine lights in both vehicles it appears that you do not service your vehicles in a systematic way. I hope that my experience yesterday is not representative of the usual conduct of your company. I used your ambulette company, as my Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) Medicaid Plan, Senior Health Partners is in contract with Rainbow. I usually use Genesis Ambulette for my medical transportation needs, but they were unavailable that day. Based on my experience, I am planning to tell Senior Health Partners to not contract with Rainbow Ambulette. I hope that you take this matter seriously and make any changes that are necessary.

When he was efficiently discharged on time before his noon pickup, it had been arranged by the hospital. The noon pickup became sometime between noon and 1PM and then when we asked where the driver was (at 10 minutes to 1) we were told that due to traffic it would be 2 PM. At 2 PM we made the nurse call and they told us that the driver was looking for parking and would be there. He showed up at about 2:15 - one guy - with a grotty wheelchair which he proceeded to manhandle my husband into and down we went. The car was filthy and the driver - despite using his phone GPS and two GPS units that were in the car - managed to get lost twice between 70th and York and the 73rd St. entrance to the FDR Drive! The guy spoke limited English but was busy texting on taking phone calls in Spanish while trying to navigate. If we had not known the way to our house we might have ended up in the Bronx or Yonkers somewhere (I stole a peek at his GPS while trying to correct his navigation) When we arrived, he would not take my husband up to the apartment in the wheelchair (it required a short walk through the lobby to the elevator) because he was concerned about leaving the car - so I paid our doorman to stay with the car so that I could get my husband settled. Shame on the HSS for even using these people - there is nothing commendable about them - service poor, vehicles poor, we feel lucky that we survived the trip. DO NOT CALL this company if you value your loved ones.

If I could put a zero for their score, I, would do so…read more.. I had an extremely disturbing and dangerous experience with SeniorCare EMS Ambulance during what should have been a safe medical transport following major surgery. The driver assigned to my transport was a trainee, and shockingly, so was the attendant in the back with me. During the ride, the driver was speeding, following an incorrect GPS route, and completely disregarded both my concerns about driving so fast and my attempts to provide correct directions. Despite asking her multiple times to slow down and adjust the route, she refused. There was one trained personnel in the ambulance with me, and she was in the driver seat in the front of the ambulance. The situation escalated into a serious accident when the driver drove up a jersey barrier median, causing the ambulance to tip and slam back down violently. As a post-surgical patient, this was terrifying and physically and emotionally traumatic. To make matters worse, the attendant in the back was not properly secured and was thrown onto me multiple times during the incident. Following the crash, a second ambulance transported me back to the emergency room. Even those professionals expressed serious concern and stated that trainees should not have been in those roles under these conditions. Of the three people in the ambulance with me when the accident occurred, not one of them expressed empathy or concern for me. They did call the supervisor who came to the scene a short while later. Senior Care EMS Ambulance has failed to take any meaningful accountability for this incident. While I did receive a refund for the $300 charge, that does not begin to address the severity of what occurred. This was not a minor issue--this was a dangerous failure in patient safety and protocol. I continue to experience physical discomfort and emotional distress from this event, and I am deeply concerned about potential long-term effects. I will be formally reporting this incident to the Better Business Bureau and the Department of Health, as this type of negligence should never be treated as acceptable or routine. Patients trust medical transport services with their safety at their most vulnerable moments. Senior Care EMS Ambulance failed that responsibility in every way.
