When in Rome, act like a Roman, right?…read more But once in awhile, it's kinda nice to have a quick taste of your "norm," even if it's just for a few minutes. Located on one of the busiest streets of Dagupan, Starbucks is a welcoming sight for sore eyes. After running a few errands around the area, it was a good stop to make for something cold and for a snack. Parking was a challenge. There are about 4 spaces up front that can be shared by patrons of all the other establishments in the area. We got lucky to score one of them. We walked in and I immediately liked the open and welcoming space. It was quite inviting. There wasn't a line, so we took our time putting in our orders. Now, I'll admit, a couple of us took a minute to make up our minds, but the cashiers were patient. They also suggested a couple of cakes and pastries. Now, I'm not a sweets person, and I usually just take a bite just to say I tried it, but gotta say the crepe cake was pretty damn good! Good enough for me to eat almost half of it! That, I would recommend. Free WiFi. Place is clean - clutter didn't last longer than a few seconds since someone was always around for immediate clean up. It's a good place to chill. Me likey.

If you're on the road up North in Rosario, La Union, and looking to eat somewhere that's not a Chowking/Mang Inasal/local Filipino cuisine, and a place that has a bit more flair, check out S.O.U.L. Café. While on our way to Baguio, we only accidentally stumbled upon this cafe only because we were supposed to eat at the Chowking across it, and it had no available parking spaces. Haha. This place is very easy to miss, so spot the 7-Eleven by the gas station at Rosario. This place has a laid back, bohemian vibe filled with artworks, wall paintings, like a cafe you would usually expect to be beside the beach. But it's not. It's on La Union's main road! They have some good selections on their menu if you're veering away from local, traditional fare. Their dishes are something you would expect to see in a restaurant in trendier places in Makati or BGC, but in reasonable prices. For vegans, get the Hummus Pasta (sans shrimp). It is pretty good, but the hummus-basil ratio is 1:4 which can be a bit disappointing. For a refreshing drink, you have to get their Lemon Green, which is a basil and lemon slushie that's going to make your day. Downside: Service is a bit slow and they're quite understaffed, and the server didn't seem too knowledgeable about their dishes, though.

Perfectly fried, seasoned and a generous portion. It was great to have brewed coffee that tasted freshly brewed, not sitting for hours and had actual coffee taste instead of the instant 3 in 1 packets that are too sweet. Glad we ate local!

Okay Yelpmates. Just how good is your life today? Hopefully you're finding the specs of wonderful…read moreeven within those dark moments. Pretty sure it's there if you look hard enough. Slow down. Be with me for 6 minutes. Can you share a moment with me? Me, I am still on my retirement living, so this trip isn't vacation. Life as an energetic retiree is 100% vacation mode, all day, every day. I'm still in southeast Asia exploring Americana abroad. Seems western culture is celebrated here to the extreme. Today, another trip to Cinnabon. Check the pics. Here, the minibons are almost the size of a full cinnibon stateside, and the full sized Cinnabons, are Monsterbons. Why did I have to travel 8285 miles to get a proper Cinnabon? Yes, they also do this better than us. Lighter, but dense enough to give you a good rich bite. The coffees are megastrong. Service? Come on, this is just the friendliest place on earth since Mayberry. It's as if Aunt Bea, Andy, Opie, Barney Phife are somewhere here. Just that nice. If you know the reference, sheesh you're old (like me). Gotta go. Thank each of you for reading. I hope wherever you are in your lives, you're enjoying a bit of sweetness as I have here in the Phillipines at C'Bon. Life isn't short. Life is a million moments long if you're present and egaging them. Get unfocused, unrushed so you can take more of these mini-moments in. Like the thousands of grains of cinnamon in a humble Cinnabon, the moments add up to something sweet n' rich if you take time to savor each one. Don't wolf them down. Sit still, bite big, chew small, let life sit on your tastebuds a while. You don't have to travel far, or be retired to enjoy your life, you simply need to make the choice to. Be well, be loved, bite, sip, bite, sip. You really are worth enjoying your one life a bite at a time. Hope you've made that choice. Thanks again if you slowed down to read this far, to really read takes giving in to moments. If you are here with me now, I so appreciate you. Peace folks.
