They have wrong vaccines to 2 of my dogs and they had adverse reactions and charged 20 more each for the intranasal vaccine, did not return a simple medication question for 2 weeks but the worst was refusal to do chest x rays. They missed a cancer diagnosis in my service dog. VALLEY Cardiology somehow missed 5 tumors next to his heart on 4/1/24, negligence. After my family has used Blue Cross for 45+ years, I just had my last visit. I only needed an annual Bordetella vaccine...no issue there. What is unacceptable to me is the $80 "exam" in order to get the vaccine. An exam I did not request or need...and never even saw conducted. Assuming it was conducted based on time outside the room it couldn't have been more than a 2 minute "exam". Then less than one minute to let me know my dog is in great health...which I already knew. So $80 for a generous estimate of 5 minutes for something not needed or requested and no benefit...except as a Money Grab by Blue Cross. Not true veterinarian care... just a money grab with unnecessary tests to "rule out" issues that aren't even related to the problem. They spend no more than 5 minutes learning about what's going on just to disappear and come back with a quote for how much the next set of tests will cost. They never offer a possibility of what could be the problem-- they just want you to pay hundreds of dollars every visit for tests -- some that are completely unrelated to the issue. The doctors suggested a chest X-ray -- when I asked the tech what they could be looking for -- the tech had no idea and one vet admitted she didn't know either. She has been sick for the past year and a half and Dr Peter couldn't figure out what was wrong (probably the start of her cancer) six months ago we were referred to a surgeon who told us she had colon cancer with a tumor the size of a lemon and prognosis was not good. It's been over two months since my experience and I still have a hard time wanting anything to do with this practice. I'd been going there for 4 years. The main reason I want to write this is to help anyone else out there not have my experience and minimize the chance of their dog dying under their care. Sorry it's so long but it's so shocking I had to write it out. My dog got diagnosed with ITP, I first went to the ER. They treated him urgently and seriously as he had a very serious case of the deadly disease. They told me to follow up with my primary vet a couple days later for follow up blood work. I went there and realized quickly that Dr.Dutton had no idea what she was talking about or much about ITP. Her bedside manner is horrible, she was so nonchalant and told me to bring him back in 5 days if he's not better. Well, with ITP it's quickly progressing and serious. Then two days later, she called me to check in bc she saw I was at the ER the day before and after I told her I was going back to ER for a possible blood transfusion, she told me to basically prepare for my dog dying. Her words were "with cases as serious as his, it's not good (when two days earlier her manners were that it wasn't serious)...then asked how old is he? (I said 6).. well he's had a good life honey ... and the first dog is always the hardest (when they die)." That was her convo with me after not even being involved in his care. I was a mess. There's other stuff too but this is too long already. I'm happy to report that no thanks to them, he's alive and recovering. I am 99% certain he would have died under their care. I just wish they were honest about not knowing how to treat this. I'm also writing this I hopes they'll read it bc they had the audacity to send me a bill for another $200 two months later bc of a clerical error... for a dog that as far as they know is dead. And for results THEY NEVER SHARED WITH ME. Wow. Blue cross, if you want the money, please email me bc I want nothing to do with you or talk to you. We came in today, Saturday 13 November 2021, with our 35 pound dog for an emergency visit. Before arriving we informed the personnel working that our dog was very skittish and that the vet (Dr. Ryan) had previously given us a sedative for the next time we brought her into the office. We asked if we should give our dog the sedative that was given to us and we were told not to do so. After arriving and waiting in the examination room for over 30 minutes, while dogs are barking everywhere, loud sounds are happening all around, and our dog is becoming more and more scared by the minute, the SAME EXACT VET that originally examined our dog and which gave us the sedative in the first place, bursts into the examination room without warning, no knocking, no speaking through the door, nothing, and then proceeds to get angry with us and our dog because our dog starts barking and charges at the door that she entered through. This was HIGHLY unprofessional and being a veterinarian seemed to display a lack of having any idea of what she was doing. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. Not once did this vet apologize for HER mistake and continued to put the blame on us for what SHE did. I am flabbergasted that Dr. Ryan has been able to keep her position and the managers of this office have not had previous complaints, nor fired Dr. Ryan from her position. Not only did Dr. Ryan do everything that I just mentioned above, but in addition, she proceeded to go into the back and bad mouth my girlfriend, my dog, and myself! I honestly cannot believe a business in Scottsdale, Arizona is being conducted in this manner. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE and I WILL NOT LET THIS SLIDE AND LET THIS VET GET AWAY WITH TREATING THE ANIMALS IN IT'S CARE OR IT'S CUSTOMERS IN THIS MANNER!!!! So I asked on Nextdoor who folks recommended and overwhelmingly the neighbors said Blue Cross. I was able to get an appointment with Dr Kait Knerr. She's new to the clinic. She was warm, friendly, obviously into animals and was able to diagnose my dog and schedule a surgery for the next morning. I paid for a lot of blood work, a cytopoint injection, an exam and biopsy and it was a reasonable price. They showed me the cost up front with options and didn't perform any business without approval of the price. I'm so glad I found Blue Cross! Even the dog felt comfortable there. He usually will not walk into the vet office, we have to carry him. But for some reason he was in love with the staff and kept trying to re-enter the clinic! read more

We've brought our cats to Blue Cross for more than two decades - even after we moved to a different neighborhood - specifically because of Dr. Ryan. She has been a constant source of support and comfort for our family as we've experienced the ups and downs of pet guardianship. We consider her a member of our extended family and can't express enough appreciation for her compassion and expertise. She has gone above and beyond too many times to count to help us. All of the doctors at Blue Cross are experts in their field, and are well connected within the Phoenix animal care community. The staff and technicians at Blue Cross are also professional and friendly. We are seen promptly, and we've never had issues with billing or follow-up communication. The facility is clean and comfortable. I've spent plenty of time "in the back" when my cats have needed to be on 24/7 IV, etc. and I've observed how well they treat their patients when out of eyesight of their guardians. I've particularly enjoyed watching them treat kittens. They are just as giddy about cuteness as me! My only concern about the practice is that they need to go digital ASAP. It pains me when I see them handling paper records. It also creates an issue if there are emergencies after hours and the medical records are locked in a file cabinet. I'd like to have access to my pets' medical history online 24/7 in a secure portal. I know Dr. Ryan will always be available for us, but I'd like to be able to see basics (vitals, blood work results, etc.) online at any time - in part so I don't have to bug her as often! I know it would be an expensive and time-consuming transition, but 2010 called... Despite this, I continue to recommend Blue Cross to family and friends because while digital records would be useful, what really matters is that they take good care of our cats! read more

I now live in Chandler/Gilbert area yet I still choose to visit this office. Why? I did try the vets in my area after we moved; however, they were so commercialized and showed very little affection and compassion to my little best friend. I really really wanted to love this place. It comes highly recommended by so many people here on yelp plus it is located in a great spot. I liked Dr Ryan right away on our first visit. I was hesitant about her because she is so young but she won me over by the end of our visit. I decided the 30 minute wait must have been just an emergency issue and chalked it off. Today was my second visit when I brought our other dog in for his shots. I had requested Dr Ryan because she had been so good the first time. When I had to change our appointment a week out I decided to wait a few days longer just so we could get her. Well, again I was tapping my toes in the exam room. This time for almost an hour. I finally told them I had to leave and the staff offered me Dr Dutton who came in right away and gave the shots. Most places, would give you a break on the visit fee or write it off after making you wait almost an hour. Not them. Full price. The fact that people work hard to get to their appointments on time seems to escape some establishments. Blue Cross is apparently one of them. Only one person stuck their head in to say she was running late. Other than that I could have been running a prostitution ring out of that room and no one would have noticed. My dog had a concerning lump on his toe so we went in to see Dr. Ryan. We biopsied it and it warranted surgical removal. Dr. Ryan did an amazing job on his surgery and we picked up our boy. My dog never had surgery before and I didn't realize he would be a stinker. While trying to juggle a new born baby and taking care of my dog postop I failed him and he got to his foot and licked his incision wide open. I called in a panic and Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic was kind enough to squeeze me into their busy schedule and check on his foot. They re-wrapped it to hold us over and squeezed my boy in for a repeat surgery to close it. Because Dr. Ryan was able to get us back in and close the incision she saved my dog from an amputation! As a first time mom with a newborn baby and then having my fur baby need surgery, it was so overwhelming. But then with my dog ripping open his surgical incision, I was so upset and was going to lose it. Between Dr. Ryan squeezing us into her office visit schedule and surgery schedule she helped me and my dog Bane so much! I can't thank Dr. Ryan enough for her kindness, empathy and compassion. After her dedicated follow ups checking on my boy and diligently re-wrapping his foot I am happy to say Bane is happy, healed, and helping to take good care of his new little brother. Hit and Miss pretty much The first time I went, I had a great vet and a great visit as a check up and shots. The second check up, I had an older woman as my doctor and she had to the most dismissive, irritable and just down right mean attitude I've ever seen from ANY medical professional. In fact, pretty much everyone up front is rude and acts like you are a bother. I wanted a wart removed from my dog's head and she told me the only way they could do that was under a general when he had his teeth cleaned and the cost for but would be $800. I'm fact, when I had said the other doctor told me that it could be done without the cleaning, she flat out called me a liar. I am now at another vet and very happy. My dogs teeth cleaning only cost me $400 and the wort, which they removed before his cleaning cost me $130. I will never go back to Blue Cross and greatly encourage others not to as well. read more

If you have a pet please consider this clinic. We have a new 6 month old (now) Frenchie and this office came recommended by our neighbor who also has a FB. They were at a different vet and switched. Our first appt was with Dr. Bennett at end of August. We took our pup here for all his shots/vaccines and also to have nails trimmed as we didn't want to stunt him LOL. LOVE Dr. B. She's down to earth and talks to us simply. She shows an interest in our pup and us. 2 weeks ago our Pup came down with a smell in his left ear- brought him in and YES a Yeast infection..treated and sent us home with some drops. Gave us options of treatment as well. The following week we were at the park playing ball as we normally do and he must have caught an indent in ground or something as he began limping. I WAS PETRIFIED he broke his back left leg. Paranoid New mama. NO yelping just a limp. I called our Breeder and also the office and due to it being a Sunday I had to leave a msg. Within 15-20 min another Doctor called- Dr. James. She was so helpful and reassured us. We were able to get him in the following day for exam ( as I wanted to make sure nothing was broken). While we couldn't technically schedule an appt (it was BUSY) she allowed us to drop him off so she could look at him in between appts. (Dr Bennett was out of town). 2 hrs later he was looked at, x rayed and ready for pick up. Dr James did call us during the times to give us updates on what was going on which I thought showed "care, concern and courtesy" which I can't even find in a NON VET DR. As suspected we were sent home with meds and suggestions on how to best get our Pup back on the mend. (Keep in mind he is pretty active and enrolled in weekly Puppy Class) We have been able to get back to routines and class and Pup is doing much better!! The staff is SO great. Everyone is pleasant...friendly. Never feel bad for calling or asking questions. They are extremely accomodating and with COVID extremely careful and aware with Protocol.......5 STARS!!!!!! read more

Used to go here because it was close to my house. But several times I showed up to my scheduled appointment and the receptionist would say "Oh...are you sure it's today? I don't see anything. I guess we can squeeze you in...." Then they'd talk about me as if I wasn't there to the vet tech "She doesn't have an appointment...can you squeeze her in?" And they'd both shoot me a look. Then they'd huff and puff and bring me back to the exam room and every time someone came in they'd passive aggressively mention that I "didn't have an appointment" and that they're happy to "squeeze me in". It was really irritating and I just let it go because Im not going to sit there and argue even though they gave me an appointment card and I had it in my calendar - correctly. I didn't just take off work early to bring my dog in unannounced...? Otherwise...kind of expensive for the area but it was a fine vet. After having the fabulous Dr. Ryan care for my 2 sibling Pitt mixes for 11.5 years, it came time to arrange for my beloved service dog, Sandy's euthanasia and cremation. I brought her in, paid in advance, and Dr. Ryan helped ease Sandy's pain one last time. She and I both she'd tears and she assured me Sandy's creamains from her private creamation would likely be back in a few days. They NEVER came back. The clinician admitted that she checked the wrong box and Sandy's remains would not be coming back. The clinic noted on invoices for Sandy's brother's food that they needed to discuss settling my account. In other words they intended to keep the cash I gave them for a private cremation and demand more money from me that was on my account from previous transactions. I asked them for reasonable compensation for their negligence but they refused to settle. DO NOT TRUST THE MANAGEMENT AT THIS PLACE! read more

Love this place! Unfortunately I had to put my old guy Casper down after some visits with him here but they are so great that it made it less painful. Had him boarded here for a few days and that was great too. He seemed so happy when I picked him up. He wasnt eating too well at first so they gave him chicken baby food and he loved it. They are very kind and caring at this vet which you would think goes without saying when dealing with animals but it does not in my experience. Glad I switched over from my old vet. So disappointed. All the reviews here are great, and this is so close to my home that I was excited to bring my kitten in to set up a health relationship with these veterinarians. But in the past two weeks my cat has had two different non-emergency but still urgent care situations come up and BCVC totally dropped the ball. Please note that the 2 star score is because the doctors themselves are pretty nice. If you can get to them. Last week it was diarrhea, which could mean a myriad of larger problems. I called after business hours and left a message for the on call vet, Dr. Dutton on the 'non-emergency' line. I just wanted to find out if there were symptoms to be looking for. The Dr. never returned my call. The next morning and a totally unconcerned receptionist told me there were no same day appointments, 1 appointment the next day in mid-afternoon (when I'm at work) and a few the 2nd day in the morning. The 2nd day appt was made and I went in to see Dr. Brandt who was fairly prompt and examed Josie, gave her a 72 hour vitamin med to help her bowels and sent us off. Last night I got home to a cat with one eye almost completely shut and weeping, with green mucus, a very red third eyelid. Scary. I knew I had to wait until 7AM to call, because BCVC doesn't take messages, and clearly the on call vets don't give a shit, so I got up this morning and just brought her in at 7, hoping they could spare a minute to look at my cat's freaky eye problem. There was no one else in the waiting room (of course) when I arrived, yet the receptionist told me there were no appointments available until 4PM (again when I'm working) and had no interest in letting me see someone now. I asked if they had affiliate clinic recommendations, or a nearby rec at least, and she said no. She did offer to let me leave my cat ALL day in a cage at the clinic so she would be there for the 4PM appointment, but well, my cat can't explain her symptoms to the doctor now can she? Finally I squeezed the name of an emergency clinic on 40th and Cactus out of her and took off for there. Look I'm sorry my cat can't get sick on your schedule Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic, but maybe for your next customer (since I won't be returning) you could offer a bit of compassion for an animal in distress. read more

Our poor dog, Duke, started forming a huge lump on his side in February. We started by taking him to Banfield- don't go there! The vet there told us that his condition was a "medical mystery". Great, thanks. We took him to a different Banfield clinic, which didn't give us any better answers. Finally, I decided to look on Yelp for reviews of vets and find the best one. I read Dustin F's review of Dr. Ryan and decided to try her. That turned out to be a great decision. Dr. Ryan was able to quickly diagnose him (bone cancer :-( ...) and give us some medicine to take away his pain. She also consulted with other vets and a cancer specialist, to be sure she was correct. Our dog lived much longer than he was predicted to. He had to be put to sleep at the end of July. Dr. Ryan was always there for us, though. We called her every day the last week of his life. She always worked to fit us in to her busy schedule (she is popular!) and made sure we understood everything about Duke's condition. The last night he was with us, we paged Dr. Ryan and she called us back within an hour on her day off! She truly is an excellent vet and cares so much about the animals she treats. read more

I've had cats and dogs treated here and have always found the staff to be caring and professional. Dr. Ryan, in particular, is a kind, warm person whose love for animals is obvious. I would recommend her to anyone. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is that, on one occasion I watched the front desk receptionist make a woman feel guilty because she opted against a recommended treatment due to the cost. I'm sure the pet owner didn't feel great about the fact she couldn't afford the care - there was no need to make her feel worse. I've heard this is done at many vets, sadly. read more
