Alright, alright, some people are DIE-HARD fans of this place! MY major complaint (and to me this is no joke): I have a stomach ache for hours after going to this place. Every time. And it's not because I over-eat, but because of the high content of oil. I 've always found their food to be mediocre. But they have fantastic maple syrup (this is VT, and they are proud of it!). I also like their veggie burger. Homemade, and delicious! Everything else is just blah to me, though as I said, some people wait all week to eat at this place on the weekend. The atmosphere is fun, it's neat to be in a place where people are so happy to be there. If you live in town, you're bound to run into people you know, which is nice. Perfect. Just what you expect and want a diner to be and then better. There were so many things to choose from and what I got was raspberry pancakes with the raspberry's cooked in. So good! Traveling through towns and only staying a small while you don't really expect to do the right things. All the places we went to in Bennington were just great. This diner was excellent. There were so many choices and everything was inexpensive and delicious. We didn't wait long at all for a booth which was suprising since the place was so small. Our waitress was super friendly and she was on it with the coffee. And then they had those old jukebox things at all the booths and to my surprise they actually worked. Should get a negative stat, neutron star maybe? We never got to eat. I tried to go with my father the morning before his birthday. He's been battling cancer and COVID along with a host of other issues. Honestly wasn't sure he would make it to his birthday. After labs in the morning, he wanted pancake. Let me tell you, I will not be back. The old hag running the register was so rude, just by the fact that we wanted to eat there. I ended up just walking out after waiting 10 minutes for someone to clear a booth. Which, I watched her and other employees just walking by for 10 minutes. Now, I have 35 years experience working and managing food and beverage operations, that is just unacceptable. Then to be rude to the people coming to support your business... What a fantastic breakfast. Stayed in Bennington for a couple of days. Had breakfast there on two mornings. Service was very good and friendly. Seems to be the go to stop, everyone knew each other. The second day we had the whole wheat w/ berries pancakes. Three large pancakes...So good. Next time we're going for dinner. Now it's CASH only. You have to have the homemade donut, grilled. The tiny town of Bennington doesn't have too much to offer beyond beautiful scenery and fall foliage. But this diner shines a beautiful light on an otherwise quiet, and uneventful town. The staff is incredible kind and considerate and will deliver the upmost service. The menu is extensive with prices that are more than reasonable, especially given the large portions! Homemade donuts (grilled of course) are a fan favorite and the breakfast burrito is a dish I've yet to see be rivaled anywhere else. It's a small diner with bar seating and limited booths so there may be a little wait depending on the time of day but it is much worth it. So if you're in Bennington for a quick stay or even a local who somehow has managed to avoid this landmark, you definitely need to stop by and enjoy a meal you'll most definitely not regret. read more

We came for breakfast and not happy with cash only payment. We went to nearby atm got cash. The place has rustic look like a car. We got seat by the bar. Coffee was fine. The omelet we ordered had stuffing of some kind of curry. The curry had egg plants and potato and we could tell from first bite , it was stale. We left it and the waiteress did not care we liked it or not. We then got another omelet and had told to be well done which turned out to be half fry. The pumpkin pancakes with walnut were good. An extra dollar for local maple syrup which was too little for stack of pancakes. All in all it was an Ok experience. read more

If you're coming in w/ only 2-3 ppl., you can avoid the "woe is me" wait to be seated by simply walking in & eating at the "old skool" diner counter/sitting on the spin-ee stools. Not a hard concept. The Blue Benn is the QUINTESSENTIAL diner, in my mind! Second time I've had breakfast here in the past 2 months. There won't be a third. Others must feel this way because the place was empty, and it was 7:15 in the morning (used to be very busy). Food was just ok, but the prices have gotten outrageous. For 2 scrambled eggs and 4 strips of burnt bacon she charged me $8.95, the full amount as if I had home fries and toast. I have been going to this place since I was a kid and I could not love it more. This diner offers no frills as it was built by Paterson Vehicle Co. nearly 60 years ago, but it's very vintage with DELICIOUS food. The diner itself is actually very small- About 8 or 9 booths. Really cool plus about the booths- they all have jukeboxes! 2 plays per quarter and large selection of music. If you go in for breakfast on a weekend (even some weekdays) and require a booth you may have a bit of a wait- If not they have plenty of counter space. The menu is quite extensive, something for everyone. I would especially recommend this diner to anyone who is vegetarian or vegan as they have PLENTY of veggie/vegan dishes. While the menu itself is huge- Make sure you check out the specials that are printed on papers on the wall behind the counter! May seem overwhelming at first as there are just so many options, but you're sure to find something tasty. I was here yesterday with a friend and ordered the Rueben omelette which comes with toast (white, wheat, rye, or sourdough- I went with sourdough- delicious) and homefries. I was not at all disappointed. My portion was enormous (enough for my breakfast this morning!) and SO tasty. This is why I emphasize checking the specials on the wall as that's where I found this gem- It's not printed in the menu. My friend ordered the Philly steak omelette which I tried and we both found out of this world. Same portion as mine- huge (he also had leftovers) I've never had anything I didn't like here. Let me start by saying I love diners and will go out of my way to find them. 122 reviews precede; I cannot do much harm to this venerable legend. If you check, you will see that I usually only give fav reviews, so this is an exception. My complaint: gruff service is fine; I'm used to NYC deli waiters. But those guys are at least good at their job. These Vermonters are not. They don't say "be right with you" when you are sitting at the counter waiting and waiting to give your order. They don't clear dirty dishes even though they pass by with empty hands during non-rush hour. They do not offer to refill your coffee cup, even when you order dessert. The diner is SUPER cute! with quarter juke boxes at each table, this cramped almost RV sized diner with booths and spinny stools, and a cool retro color, whats there not to love? We ate there late afternoon on a Saturday. Delicious food (pumpkin French toast was out of this world!) but the staff was incredibly unpleasant. When we became the next party to be seated per the honor system, we then waited over 45 minutes for a table even though several opened up after about 20 minutes. The people after us questioned the manager and they were ordered out to the lobby. This place has a great reputation among tourists. I'm not sure why. I guess tourists passing through the area are so dazzled by the foliage that they just forget what diner food is supposed to taste like. The food is moderately priced, but not very good. I might deserve it for ordering falafel at a diner, but it was the worst I've ever had. They charge extra for real maple syrup -- in Vermont, this is shameful. Sure, I've never had food poisoning after a meal there, but as far as diner food goes this isn't the best. And I do love diner food. When I frequented the Blue Benn (it's one of the few diners in the area) I was a student at Bennington, the college on the hill. While town-gown relations are strained in general in the area, they really stand out at the Blue Benn. Waitresses have been rude and standoffish on multiple occasions. I was with my parents and boyfriend and we were shocked at her horrible attitude and what seemed like disgust with us, for no apparent reason. Exactly what one would expect! There offer an unbelievable range of food. Difficult to imagine how they could keep stocks of all the ingredients. But we were there for breakfast, which was great.
