The only complaint is that it was so painful to put my hair into an upward ponytail because the braids around the edges were so tight. They also did a good job on my daughter's cornrows, but of course the braids were too tight. The atmosphere is like most African braid shops, they could all stand a deep cleaning. The braiders speak in their native tongue, while the customers endure long hours of braiding and getting an ear full. Of couse, you get your regular solicitors coming in trying to sell their merchandise. Overall, it's a layed back environment. Aicha herself is really sweet, and she listens to what the customer wants. She will also give you her advise if it's accepted. Her co-braider can be very opinionated about what she feels you should do with your hair. However, you would love the results. The neighborhood is really laid back for a shop on a busy street (North Ave). You have McDonald's one block west of the shop and a gas station. Two blocks east you have a Wendy's, and Pizza Hut. You will not find any healthy joints near this shop. Also, if you're in the mood for Jerk Chicken, 3D's is about four blocks west on North Ave. Give Aicha a try if you're in the area looking to get your hair braided. I have been getting my hair done with them since the original location in Garfield Ridge area in Chicago. The first location was closer and due to a fire, they had to relocate. I didn't mind traveling because of the quality of work and service. When I first started working with Raquel, my hair was extremely thin and fragile due to illness. With her advice and careful care of my hair, it is better than it ever was. I have had highlights, cuts, ombre, dye, make up, up-dos done here. The time flies by when I'm here and I look forward to my next dramatic change with her. She always gets my color and style right on point no matter what it is or what the change is. She is honest and will get you where you want your hair to be or advise if your hair is not at it's healthiest or realistically you wouldn't be able to achieve it without damage. Not many stylists will do that, they'd rather tell you what you want to hear and take your money. Give them a try!
