    Salmon hibachi
    Amy D.

They closed and reopened so we really wanted to try again and prayed it was the glory days, like when they first opened. First impression was printed out signage taped up telling you to anticipate a wait, zero warm greeting. All our favorite menu items are gone, no more seafood bucatini, no more cioppino. Replaced by hibachi. Bland rice and cooked beyond well done salmon. Sad hush puppies. The yummiest item we tried were the Rangoon cheese sticks, though pricey for what you get. $18-$20 for "specialty" rolls that didn't seem special. Our guests barely touched their food and didn't want to take leftovers home. The entire place could use a good clean and dust. All the pictures on the walls covered with dust. The bright spot? Our server. I think his name was CJ. He was on top of things, very kind and attentive. A real asset had the food been better. The location is amazing and could be something great again. Makes me really sad.

Half price regular sushi rolls and wine night! My girlfriends and I had a blast! The sushi was very good. I recommend the tuna maki. The spicy salmon was just ok. I am excited to go back on a Monday when the half price specialty rolls are featured. A beautiful ambiance with glowing piranha heads adoring the walls behind us haha. The service was just mediocre. The waitress didn't check in on us often or refills our waters and we were there for quite some time.

If you didn't know about Blu Oyster here's your sign to go sip, bite and taste everything! I'm a seafood lover so this was an absolute treat! The Blu Baked Oysters has crab mornay, parmesan, chives, lemon are an absolute must! It was hard to make a decision for the entree. I decided to go with the Lobster Cioppino it has mussels, clams, oysters, white fish, shrimp, gochujang, fumet and a toasted baguette. I was not disappointed. Oh and let's talk about dessert. They have Banana Pudding Cheesecake it has Vanilla wafer crust, salted caramel cream cheese frosting, and brûléed banana. Y'all!!!! This was a deliciously good time! My favorite sip was the "Jack Rabbit" with High Wire Hat Trick Gin, Meletti Amaro, House Made Ginger Carrot Juice, Turmeric and Fresh Lemon . I can't wait to go back I already know what I'm ordering next time. Follow along with me on instagram @sipbiteandtasteit for more foodie finds.

Shrimp and grouper platter. Lots of waffle fries as you can see. Not too many shrimp on this $29 platter.

Some people say that you should actually eat your dessert first before your meal. With that in mind how about a review that starts with the dessert? Ours (2 spoons) was ice cream with a slighter vanilla bean taste, a single mint leaf sticking into the top of the ice cream which was mounted on top of a somewhat large apple crumble pie. Our waitress was a bubbly one named Autumn. She continually, but unobtrusively, was checking with us and engaged in a light, but interesting conversation with my wife. Autumn was also handling other tables with aplomb, including a large set of folks in the large screened in exterior dining area. The meal for us was sushi (yes, an oyster and seafood restaurant serves sushi!), with my favorite is the $18 "Johns Island"--appropriate as that is where this place is located off of Maybank Highway. Obviously, raw fish, but also with cream cheese blended in and small (cooked) shrimp at either end. This restaurant is not inexpensive, in fact the lowest cost for a bottle of Chardonnay is $63 and thus we do not imbibe, here anyway. My wife likes the food, the service and the ambience, as do I, so here we were!

Blu Oyster is a classy gem on Johns Island. It brings international flavor intertwined with Charleston, South Carolina lowcountry culinary tradition. Upon entry, it takes you on a trip back in time with a retro vibe. The sushi bar makes you feel like you are at a 1950s soda fountain shop or 50s diner. When the guests are greeted by the friendly staff, a classic Cadillac front end meets the eye. The background soundtrack has good tunes. The music is at a good level. The atmosphere blends new school with old school seamlessly. Blu Oyster is very accommodating for gluten allergies and celiac. There are many gluten free options including a signature fried seafood platters. The seasoned fries are awesome. The cuisine is a delicious and eccentric delight. The Asian Fusion includes a combination of sushi and seafood. The seafood can be fried, seered, or raw.

Remember to order extra bread early in because it takes a while when you get the curry muscles- though maybe the bread comes out faster now than it used to. Today we had the muscles. Blu Southen Fried Platrer with the grouper, grilled whole snapper 'coco' from the fish board, and sushi- with tuxedo cake a la mode for dessert. We also had the Vino Verde. It was all delicious!! I would do it all again- maybe try the grilled fish with a different preparation just to see. I liked the Coco and could do it again- very flavorful with an interesting selection of grilled veggies but was the sauce cream based? I'm not sure. Ask for Katie- she is knowledgeable and efficient plus brought sunshine to our meal- thanks Katie!!

This is the real deal on Johns Island. It's classy but casual with plenty of seating options. We opted for the patio on a beautiful spring day for happy hour and happy it was. We had a couple of domestic bottles of beer and a dragonfruit sparkling mojito and calamari (our waitress informed us that they were famous for it and now we understand, it was amazing!!) and the tuna tartare. We opted for 4 classic rolls as well: California roll, crunch roll, ebi shrimp roll, and spicy tuna roll. (Can you say happy hour pros?) anyway, this experience was great and proved a proper date night here will be in our future. (Their dessert menu looked amazing as well and we were informed their pastry chef makes them fresh daily!! We will plan better next time!)

Decent variety of oysters. If you come between brunch and dinner hours (3pm-5pm) note that only the raw bar is served! The sushi was good but definitely overpriced at almost $20 a row.

I really enjoy this place! A friend of mine is moving to John's Island so we've spent some time over there getting his new house ready and have ended up at Blu twice in the past couple of weeks. The service is great and the ambiance/decor is so cute--but the menu is truly one of the best parts, there is definitely something for everyone-even seafood haters. The mussels are delicious, as are most of the sushi rolls and other apps. We had the lobster poutine which was great, though I think I'd prefer the lobster to be in pieces and less shredded. I had the spicy tuna crispy rice last night knowing that I order that at every restaurant and while it was good, there are definitely better options in the area for this dish. All in all a great place that has a ton of options--will definitely be back here often!

We had an evening reservation for a Friday night. The bar and dining tables remained ~90% the whole night but the noise level remained normal. For starters, we ordered the Oyster Deviled Eggs, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Calamari. The Calamari was made GF and mixed with peppers, corn, and some sort of chili sauce - such a yummy combination! The sushi was nice and fresh - next time I visit I will definitely try one of their specialty sushi rolls. I ordered the Blu Bucatini (pasta with scallops, shrimp, clams, crab velouté, topped with parmesan) and O-M-G W-O-W. Sooooo good!!!! If you love seafood, you NEED to order this. The kitchen does not skimp on the amount seafood in the dish (unlike other places!). The dish is big enough for leftovers - lucky you, you'll have lunch for tomorrow! Bonus points for Blu Oyster because they offer Gluten Free options for the majority of items on their menu -- just ask your server!

The best menu items were the fried oyster deviled eggs and those fried shrimp were perfect. My mother had the platter that included the flounder which was also really good. The drinks were nice. The staff was super friendly and I can't wait to return.

Blu Oyster is a seafood and sushi restaurant located on Johns Island. My husband and I had lunch at Blu Oyster on Sunday. The restaurant is beautifully designed. Very elegant and sleek. They offer dine in and carryout and have a fully stocked bar. We were seated quickly. We chose to eat in the outdoor area. This area was gorgeous! Nice beautiful seating with a ceiling for shade and one wall was covered with a clear curtain to protect against wind and rain. There were several televisions available to watch sporting events. Our waitress was excellent. She was personable and knowledgeable about the menu. She told us that all the food was made fresh on site. I opted for the spicy Tuna roll and my husband had a crab omlette with fresh greens salad. We shared! The crab omlette was made with 4 eggs and a generous portion of shredded lump crab meat. The flavor was incredible. I also tried a few bites of the greens salad. Wow! The homemade ginger dressing was a delight. Very light and delicate with a hint of ginger, citrus and honey. This dressing really complimentes the greens. In fact I told our waitress and the manager how much I enjoyed the dressing. The spicy tuna roll had eight pieces of delicious tuna. It was served with ginger and Wasabi. The food was fresh and very good. The ambiance and decor are very upscale. The staff was very welcoming and was the icing on the cake. I will be back again and again!

Service - 5 stars Our waiter was a nice gentleman named Tony. He was very friendly and helpful and timely with his service. Did a good job of helping my girlfriend navigate the wine menu (she's quite picky). They've actually got some aged white wines (Sauvignon blancs) that are quite different than what she normally drinks (she likes New Zealand varieties), so he steered her clear of them. Ambiance - 5 stars I found the interior of the place to be very inviting. Tall ceilings and modern architecture. A little on the loud side (we had a family with young kids nearby), but not bad. They actually have sound absorbing panels mounted on the ceiling, so you can tell they've given this element some thought. Finally, our table had a nice view of the kitchen and, as an avid personal chef, I really appreciate that aspect. Only odd thing (to me, at least) was that they sat us at a table right away (we arrived right at 5pm, which was when they opened), but told us that the bar seating was by reservation only. Odd...but maybe be the Kentucky Derby was coming on later that evening? In summary, I highly recommend this place and we will certainly be coming back!
