I have been going to Blown Away Salon (BAS) in Hayes for a several months now on a consistant basis and I am blown away (no pun intended) by the service and staff at BAS. I started looking into BAS because I saw a poor review on Facebook where a gal was chastizing them for the way they cut their sons hair and I was like there is more to this story, so I contacted them via email to find out what services they offer and pricing, within a few hours I had an appointment booked for everything I needed that afternoon. When I arrivied at the salon it was a cute little place that was clean and everyone seemed to be happy. They even have a little boutique in the front that has apparel, beauty supplies and more! BAS was very welcoming and extremely inclusive regardless as to who you are they welcome you with open arms. So back to my initial visit, I met with Michelle and we discussed what I was looking for and a little history about my past hair cuts. She proceeded to give me a fantastic hair cut, trimmed my unruly beard then went on to get some waxing done and I must say it was one of the best salon experiences I have has since moving to Virginia 3 years ago. (Prior to moving to the east coast I had been going to the same salon for over 10 years - im sure you know how hard it is to find a place that will take care of you like you are used too) The pricing for standard services seemed the norm to me from past salons visits in Virginia, the pricing for waxing is a bit high, however, Im a firm beleiver that you pay for what you get and am willing to spend a bit more for quality services. On a side note, if your modest about waxing certain areas, they make you feel extremely comfortable and at times you end up forgetting that you are getting waxed - until they pull the wax strip off then your like oh yea, its not all dandilions and rainbows, but its quick and well worth it for the end result. From the first time I went into BAS, to the most recent time (yesterday) I feel like I am part of the BAS family and always feel so welcomed - even on days that I dont really feel like "peopling" they always seem to get me out of that feeling and end up chatting the the appointment away. My wife has had multiple hair appointments for K-tip extensions. At first they started out great, but as time went on and after a few appointments they became worse and worse, making her lose more of her natural hair each time. It first started with the extensions being placed to high above the ear constantly pulling her hair. Then leading to the keratin placement and amount used. They're supposed to blend in not stick out like a sore thumb. She used almost a full inch for each extension placed, with this and the amount of hair used for each extension it looked tacky and rushed. With this last round of extensions they were placed too heavily and used too much keratin to hold them. As they began falling out they were taking a LOT of her natural hair with them. This hair used to go down to under her bra line and now it barely reaches her shoulders. She took the rest of them out today and couldn't believe her eyes. I come home to her crying and hating what has happened to her hair due to the amount lost and terrible inserts of the extensions. This type of service should stay the same throughout the appointments, and customers who continuously come back should not have to deal with their hair being ruined as a result of a lack of care and hurriedness to get the appointment done. We will not be returning as this has been a downhill ride from the start. Ruining someone's hair as a result of sloppy and lazy work is terrible when hair is one of the key features that people identify themselves with. And when you tarnish that it's time to go somewhere else. As far as service goes there are no immediate complaints. The workers were pleasant and friendly. read more

blown waste Salon is absolutely a wonderful place to go to get your haircut and your brows waxed and a facial is absolutely a wonderful place atmosphere is great and the people are there are truly wonderful. Prices are ridiculous! The stylists pick their prices which is fine but it isn't okay to be set on it like there was no compromising, helping to figure out how to lower price, attitude by stylists. It isn't budget friendly at all no matter what you ask for to be done. Its a shame it could be a good place and actually have diverse people as customers but thats not how it is. If you have $100 or more thats when you'll be able to come here. That is with basic service & tip. Vibe is very clicky, snobby, money driven people. I wouldn't recommend. read more

I am so grateful for Savannah. She really took her time and saved my hair. I came in needing a color correction as I left a previous salon with orange spots and chunks of highlights. It was a big ask and she executed incredibly. The integrity of my hair is super important and she made it a priority. No longer embarrassed to be seen in public due to looking like a calico cat. I don't normally leave reviews, but if you don't know what you're doing then don't do it. I have gorgeous blonde hair and I asked for Tinsel and normally Tinsel is knotted in your hair and she said they put beads. I didn't know what she was talking about and I got home and I have these Obnoxious beads in my head. I tried to take it out. ripped half my hair out now that's not acceptable and they need to fix this. Get it out of my hair. I don't want them in my hair without ruining my hair I'm really pissed if I cut these things out of my hair and lose my hair. They hurt when you lean on your head they're obnoxious. read more

From Wyoming, traveling the US, and for a few weeks now visiting family in the area. Needed a freshen up on my haircut. Easily booked an appointment online with Maranda Mercury. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. I showed her a photo of a haircut style I wanted. She listened to my wishes and went to work. Maranda checked with me throughout the whole process, asking how it looked,and if I wanted anything else before sending me on my way. The finished cut was so nice and flattering that my husband said I had the best haircut ever. Before leaving the area, I hope to get another session with Maranda. Job well done today! read more

I had a terrible experience here. I had gone before and was unhappy but had no choice after COVID because they were the only place with availability. I would not recommend even in a bind. Was charged $40 for a haircut I could've received at super cuts got half the price. They squeezed me in 15 minutes before they closed and I felt rushed the whole time. Ethan is hands down the greatest hairstylist I have ever encountered. He gave me a gorgeous balayage and the best haircut I've had in years. If you're looking for a color guru Ethan is your guy. Rendi booked the appointment, confirmed them for Thursday and then put them in the schedule for Friday. Apologizing "as the Manager", assuring us the mistake was done by the stylist and she had no control over it, she "assured" us she'd have myself and my Mom taken care of. Then she disappeared. My Mom got her Perm (it took 2 1/2 hours), the girl did a good job and was very sweet. I never got a cut, Rendi never told anyone I needed one. Then got the bill and was absolutely blown away by the prices charged. I've had a perm at a nationally recognized salon that didn't charge such outrageous prices. The stylist Serina did a great job. How Rendi can be a manager and provide such shoddy customer service, not follow up on her screw up, not take responsibility for her mistake or make certain the error was corrected is beyond my comprehension. It's not surprising there were soo many empty chairs in the large salon. I don't think Covid has much to do with it. read more

This place is really a gem in Gloucester! It's a beautiful salon with super friendly people. Michelle is a fantastic stylist that really works to develop a rapport with her clients, so you always get what you want. They also offer spa services and Jazlyn is an incredible masseuse! I've had massages before around the Tidewater and RVA areas. I've never had a "terrible" massage, but the best one I'd previously had was while on a cruise. My massage with Jazlyn was better than that! I'm booking again after writing this review. I also really appreciate it that they tell you their prices up front, before performing the service, so you aren't shocked at the bill when you check out. Totally worth it! read more
