So I went out on a whim during the Civic holiday dialled around in Chinatown to see if I can walk in for an appointment. Let's be real, there is no day off in Chinatown. Lucky me! Jane was free on the first call, and I did not need to wait or book appointments! $22 for a women's cut with cash only! What what?!?! Remember to tip! I usually pay at least double for a haircut, and can I honestly say it's double the quality of what I get from Jane? Nope. Jane took an after pic of my haircut. I only wanted a basic B hair chop with minimal layers at the end and she nailed it. Whoops forgot to take the before pic for comparison. You'll just have to imagine the girl from the Ring, that's me, hair to my waist. Jane and I had a good chat. Her native tongue is Cantonese, and she's giving me tips on how to style my hair. She mentions now with the pandemic, her client base is much more diverse. For health and safety, she is always masked and I put on a transparent disposable salon gown. I was the only person there! Likely, people didn't know she kept the store opened on Civic holiday. The place is very spacious for one person operating the whole shop. Jane explains she operates all three chairs there and switching between chairs for the next client coming in so that the chair doesn't stay warm for the next person.

I had a maternity photoshoot and specifically asked for a certain style, even showing pictures to the hairstylist. She assured me that she could do it, but the final result was nothing like what I asked for. I even requested a change to how she styled my bangs, and how flat my hair looked but she refused and continued to rush through the process. I ended up waiting 10 extra minutes for my appointment and finished 5 minutes early. This was a huge letdown, especially since my hair was such an important part of my maternity photoshoot--a once-in-a-lifetime memory. I am incredibly unhappy with the outcome. My top it off : I asked for a soft, curly look, but unfortunately, the result was nothing like what I envisioned. My hair ended up extremely messy and tangled, and it didn't have any flow. The curls were all over the place, when they should have been styled to flow away from my face. It was a total disaster, and I'm really disappointed with the service. It gives you the quote right there and then you pick from their available time schedule. It was so so easy! Parking was a little tricky but I found a green P next to Kinton ramen just down the street. From the moment you arrive, everyone's so welcoming! I sat down with Julia pretty quickly and she took the time to look at my pictures of haircut ideas. She listened to what I was looking for and genuinely cares! Hair wash was heaven of course, and I was so ready for this cut. Julia took her time and continuously evaluated the hair length and how it was sitting. I love how meticulous she was with it all. And she was very friendly. It was easy to have a conversation with her and she just makes you feel comfortable. I made an appointment for myself and daughter on Sunday at 2:15 p.m. On Thursday I received a call to find out if we could come at 2 on Sunday instead of at 2:15 and I was happy to make that change. At 2:05 on Saturday I received a call to find out where we were. I explained that we were coming on Sunday not today. The girl who called said it was in the computer for the Saturday not Sunday. I explained that the appointments were made for Sunday and that the time was changed but I had no intention of ever coming in on the Saturday before the event. I asked whether there were appointments on Sunday at 2 available and told yes but I would still have to pay in full for the amount for the missed appointments. Not sure how two appointments were made for a Sunday were suddenly made into Saturday appointments but they were and I was charged for the missed appointments. Super business...they aren't the only game in town and we got terrific blow drys elsewhere and none of us will EVER return to Blo. I tried to call management to discuss this issue, left a message and was promised that I would receive a call back on Tuesday...guess that they don't care because I haven't heard back. Shame. At least their competition were happy to accommodate the both of us and we will be using their services from now on.

He was the first, the best, and I can't seem to find anyone else to do the same level of expertise that he did. I wanted big sexy hair would bouncy curls and he 100% delivered and gave me amazing hair. It lasted up to 6 days and maintained the curl very well. He didn't use any hairspray (I don't like hairspray), just good quality products that made such a difference. He is the only one that used like 15 round brushes in my hair to give it that amazing curl - no other younger stylist I've seen since has done this technique and it clearly shows and matters. He is worth the price, which I find extremely reasonable. If I lived in Toronto, I would 100% get Beni-blowouts every week. I cannot shutup about what a good job he did and ever stylist I've seen since, once I show them the picture of my hair, they come close but they never achieve what he achieved.
