I have a very bad experience.. Before reserving an appointment I asked for curl specialist and the lady ensure that they have one.. When I went for my appointment I discover that they don't have any product for curls like leave in .. curl cream , the curl brush or even microfiber towel ( this is what the specialist-told me) So by logic I told her I didn't want to cut And instead of apologising , she ask me to pay 35% from the cost because I cancel- as I haven't cancel I felt that her target is collecting money she haven't even ask me - why I haven't cut Something else they are charging every client 2 dollars and 50 cents extra for the Covid????????? read more

NOTE: I can't say I recognize any of the staff members in the photos that have been uploaded, but I will simply review my experience during the summer of 2014. I walked in to the shop on weekday, seeing that it was clean, was moderately busy and was fairly well kept. The clerk at the desk was happy to make a booking for the following day. When I came back, the clerk greeted me warmly and asked me if I wanted a tea. She gave me a steaming mug of green tea, which was a pleasant way to start my visit. During the weekdays, I could see that the majority of clients are older ladies. I could also see the staff work hard and everyone is always happily chatting with their clients. In between their clients, staff are also cleaning up and keeping the shop orderly. They were even professionally dressed and you could see that there was a dress code (business casual and black). My hairdresser, Amy, was very considerate and washed my hair to start. She even asked me how I wanted my hair blown dry. I was unaware that there were different options, being someone who has liked my simple straight hair and never wanted anything different. She listened to my requests and gave me exactly what I wanted. She even gave me a helpful shopping tip for my sister's wedding! I left a generous tip for my hairdresser and was also happy to pick up a bottle of KMS Silk Sheen (I'd lost my previous bottle). I'd go back if I wanted something fancier, although I feel $50 for a basic wash, cut and dry is fairly steep. I believe they focus on speciality cuts but are happy to receive a wide range of clients. read more

I've been to this salon a few times now and never had a bad experience until today. I saw Sora for a haircut and right from the get go she was quite rude and hostile. I tried to explain to her I didn't want to chop off my length too much but she seemed really irritated and was quite rude. I wanted to leave at this point but really didn't want to create a scene and I thought I should just go ahead with my appointment. She cut my hair in 10 mins, and took about 40 mins to blow dry it. Extremely average cut, I paid $60 for nothing and a terrible experience. I left no tip to express my disappointment. Still don't have a problem with the salon as I've had better experiences with other stylists before but there's a lot of room for improvement with this stylist. read more

I have been going to the DBK hair salon on York Mills for a few years now getting my hair done weekly by Daniel. The way he does my hair has literally changed the way I plan my schedule around his availability. I have never received more compliments about my hair including being stopped by an owner of a different salon where I get my nails done. I've been going to DBK for the last 8+ years after being referred by a friend. I have seen a few different people over the years, but Sora is my #1. I trust her implicitly, she is professional and attentive and does an amazing job every time. Seema does my updos and she is also phenomenal. I'm one of "those clients" that comes in with only a vague idea of what I want done. "Shorter", I'd tell Sora. She'd ask me how much, I'd shrug my shoulders. "Surprise me." Dozens of cuts and colours later, I've never been disappointed. I am always complimented on my hair and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend DBK to anyone that asks. From the moment I call to book, to the follow up calls and emails, friendly greeting when I walk in, fresh coffee or lemon water while I'm waiting, the *best* shampoos by Sora, and then the follow up the next morning. Got my hair cut again last night... Awesome as usual. As always the service is amazing and TIM is the best artist! He's been cutting my hair for 13+ years and is still the most attentive to what I'm looking for and still suggests trends and honestly tells me what is going to look good or not. I'd recommend this salon to anyone who is VERY PICKY about how their hair is cut and maybe a little nervous to try somewhere new. On top of the great haircut- the best espresso/lattes/cappuccino are always available at no charge!! Make sure you ask for Tim- although he's busy and you'll need a few days (or a week) notice. Sadly the worst experiences are the most memorable. I have gone here a few times for my hair and have had pleasant experiences but the last time left me feeling much to be desired. I had my hair colour corrected by Kristy previously, who did an amazing job at that appt, we discussed next steps for my, hair she advised I'd only need to come back to do root baby lites and some foils to lighten the existing blonde and it would cost less as there would be no colour correction involved, perfect! I booked this appt several months later and explained what I would need (appt was over a week out but she is worth the wait). I was called the day prior with notice that Kristy would not have time to do my cut/colour and that another stylist would, I said it was OK, but really it's not as I had booked this appt at least a week before that and if the chosen slot was not appropriate just rebook ... simple! I show up for my appt and am told again about her not having enough time for cut and style, I obliged as I was already told this. Kristy balyaged my hair which was a different technique than prior but I trust her, and sign a waiver to have my hair rebleached as I wanted it cooler and not as golden...it had gotten brassy and golden..should be simple right to lighten existing bleach? My hair took a long time to do 3-4 hrs to be exact, once she washed my hair I was asked to pay as it was closing time, the service was $350 (same price I paid for colour correction with trim and style the previous time). I sat down in her chair after paying and she started to dry my hair and asked me if I was going to wear it up? At this point I asked her if she was not going to cut and style my hair to which she replied "no" and that it was late and closing time (I was told someone else would cut and style not that I's be leaving with wet hair), I was so upset at this point to pay 350 for balyage on already light hair and to be leaving with half wet hair. To me its important to have your ends trimmed after processing especially twice within 6 months, my hair has a lot of damage (my doing) and I obviously needed a cut. I voice my concern and Kristy agrees to finish the work but I could see she was upset, her and another girl (think its the owners daughter) do my hair quickly and I was a lot happier but paid another 50 for this. So in total I spent 400 on my hair this day which was more than a colour correction for dark hair with cut and style! I love Kristy she is a really sweet girl but at this moment I felt really taken advantage of. I called to book an appt for a colour correction for my sis despite my bad experience and was told she'd need to send pics so they would know how long the appt should be I was told I needed to pay $100 deposit to book as well this has never happened before but I suspect there is a note on my file. I called the York Mills location and was given a sooner appt for my sis no deposit and they booked only based on my explanation of what was needed. I was going to rebook with Kristy as well but decided not to and also booked for York Mills. I won't be returning to DBK at Lawrence and will not recommend to anyone again. I know I am giving my money to the same company but thats OK hopefully better more deserving people! read more

I've been going to DBK since I was in high school, a lot has changed but not the amazing staff and how they treat their customers. I went to a supercuts had a bad hair cut and got Amy to fix my hair, that was the beginning. Then she did my hair for prom and I've never been happier. I've donated to Locks for love twice and every time Amy has been there to provide great suggestions and really put the time and effort into ensuring I'm happy with how my hair looks I will never go to another hair salon as long as DBK is around. read more

I went here to get my bi-weekly haircut. The hairstylist (Shops @ Don Mills Donato) I had before went out of the country for awhile. Since I live at Bridle Path, this and the York Mills location was close by. I booked an Associate Director - Sora. I'm so used to the other hairstylist cutting without razor but Sora adapt to my preference. Thumbs up to her. I understand it is quite hard to mimic other's work but she tried. At the end, I felt she did an alright job. Tip given. Will come back. $40 tax in plus wash is a great deal! read more

I googled for best salons near me and dbk came up. The first thing I did was to email them and ask for someone who understands dry coarse wavy short hair. And I was referred to Angela. She asked me what haircut I like and she told me what she thinks. First time coming to DBK after hearing good reviews! Had a good experience. I have super jet black hair and came to do an ombre/balyage. My Stylist Sora took her time with it but it didn't come out properly the first time. I re-booked a second appoint and she fixed it for me! I had a good experience. The lady that washed my hair was pleasant and very friendly. She was telling me she was here for Co-op through school and she wanted to be a hairdresser when she was finished school. When getting my hair done I was asked what I wanted and I got exactly that. When I asked about colour for a future visit. They told me they would be happy to do it just let them know when and how I would like it done. Apparently what I want is the peek a boo look for colour. I used to really enjoy coming to this salon. But the last two times I have been very disappointed. First, there are two ladies at the reception counter. One is great and welcoming, and the other never smiles and make your feel very uncomfortable for being there. Ushered back to my chair, I told my stylist (Amy) that I wanted a balayage and cut. I even showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted. 3 hours later, after the stylist was finished, although the haircut was exactly what I wanted, I saw that she had given me blonde highlights all over. I was so disappointed, that I made another appointment to come back and to fix the issue. The next day, I showed her the picture again, and explained clearly that I wanted a gradient in my hair. One third dark, then medium, then blond at the ends all graduated through. She attempted to fix my hair. After dried and styled, I saw that it contained way more blond that I had wanted and expressed now a number of times to her. My hair was so dry and damaged at this time that I chose not to go back and get it fixed for a third time as I was very frustrated at this point. I was very tired of sitting in the chair, now a total of 5 hours, for a service that she was just not getting right. The balayage on their menu was $110, but somehow I ended up paying $300 for the colour and cut. This was ridiculous. If there was any hidden costs, it should have been disclosed to me before proceeding. I was so disappointed and just wanted to get out of the salon, that although I should have spoken up, I honestly just wanted to leave. I am afraid I won't be back to this salon due to the negative experiences I had here. The receptionist needs to be warm and welcoming, as all the other employees do too, and the stylist NEEDS to listen to her customers on what they really want. read more

I went to to this salon yesterday to make an appointment for cut & highlight. The receptionist was rude. She didn't asked me which level (Master Director, Director& etc) that I want or anything, just told me the time of the appointment and not even the hairstylist name. Despite my better judgment, I went for the appointment. Apparently my hair stylist was a Director level (second highest level). I show her the picture of a mid length haircut and asked her if she can cut it. : : I look like somebody who cut her own hair in her sleep. It's Horrible. She cut it so short, she couldn't even style it. A barber could cut better. My suggestion to you is: If you have a head full of hair and are not over 40, DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I have been a customer here for years, and been very satisfied with my experiences. Today I had lowlights put into my hair. I did not have it cut at this time. I really like the lowlights and my stylist. However, I was charged $30.00 to dry my hair! Was I supposed to leave with wet hair? I'm very disappointed. I normally get my hair done by my hair stylist at life hair studio. Unfortunately she's on leave for awhile, there for it made me want to try a new location that was much more convenient to my house. DBK Salon. At first..i wasn't impress by the receptionists who greeted me at first. I've advise them on what i was looking to do and how it's very hard for me to trust a new location..new hair stylist due to old experiences. The receptionist completely dismiss my concerns..no reinforcement on how i' d be in good hands...nothing. All I got was..a bit of attitude and sass by saying..ok so you want someone experienced. I said yes please..so she booked my appointment and said..ok Kristina, so ur all booked for Saturday..we'll see you then. I said " ok thank you". I walked home..and was very disapointed . She didn't even say the hairstylist name untill they called a day before to confirm my booking. The day of my appointment..i came in, I was pretty nervous to let a new hairstylist touch my hair and do my colouring. I finally met Tim, I showed him what I normally get done every 2 months by pictures so that he knows how bright and at what level we need to get it back 2 since the shade of my colouring gets a bit darker tone after couple months. Anywho, after showing him what I like precisely, he knew exactly on what to do. We definitely understood each other and got along very well. Over all, the colouring was great. He took it to the next level. So many people at work and friends commented on how nice my hair looked. He did an amazing job. The price is also reasonable. I payed a bit less then what I normally pay at the other location. This is definitely my new spot! The beginning of my experience wasn't the greatest by the receptionist but once I came back the day of my appointment, the experience and service with my hairstylist was definitely impressive. I went in to get my roots and a tone and they charged me 200$ when they had initially told me $100 when I came in, They burnt my hair so I cried in the salon because my hair was FALLING OUT! and the staff and the owners tried to blame it on me, I am 21 years old and have been dying my hair blonde since the age of 13. Their are some nice people there but they have no clue what they are doing and the products they have are not good quality. A co-worker recommended DBK when I asked where she had her hair done. That was many years ago and I have been going to DBK ever since. I used to go to expensive salons in downtown Toronto but was really put off by inferior work and moody, gossipy employees. I have had a few stylists at DBK (Lawrence Ave) and with one exception was extremely happy. (The exception did not last long at the salon.) DBK staff, from the receptionists to the manager, are unfailingly polite and a pleasure to deal with. The stylist I had been seeing for a few years at DBK retired last year (it was like losing a friend!) but I am very happy with my new stylist who is skilled, charming, and who puts enormous effort into cutting and styling my hair exactly the way I want it. She has also suggested some products which have really made a difference with my thin hair. Prices are very reasonable for Toronto. I have recommended DBK to family and friends. read more
