I am…read morefortunate to have a few friends who are Montessori teachers, so even before I had children I began to hear and learn about this method. There was no doubt in my mind that if we were blessed with children, they would attend Mountain Shadows, especially as the only AMI accredited 12 month through 12 year program in the area. What this means to me as a parent is consistency and strict adherence to Maria Montessori's original vision. Accreditation aside, my children have always been happy about going to school. The school is situated on 12 beautiful acres and nature and outside exploring are out the back steps. As a product of a K-12 private college prep school myself, I appreciate that my children aren't stressed out all the time by the pressures of staying ahead of the mark, of "making the grade." There is ample time to do that the rest of their lives. One of my favorite things about the Montessori method is math. The fact that they learn in concrete terms first by manipulating materials; by getting a true sense of what a math problem looks and "feels" like, then they move to the abstract as they get older, amazes me. In other words, they get the why and the how before they ever have to calculate it on a piece of paper. You do not ever hear them saying, "Why do I have to know this? OR when will I ever use this?" The school itself has a very committed staff, teacher and parent volunteer group. It is often scary to drop your child off at age 3, but one thing I have always been secure in, is knowing that my children were in good hands. My only wish is that when my children started they had a young children's community (starts ~age 12 months). Amazing things happen at that age when children are allowed to flourish in such a nurturing, safe and prepared environment. It is so cool to watch the children in action at this age; they are busy, happy and purposeful. If anything I want my children to feel a purpose in life and I feel confident that our choice in Mountain Shadows has provided an excellent foundation.

When asked for feedback -- any feedback -- on my child's school activities, I was told, "no news is good news". When I requested once again for a two-minute stand-up conversation once a week when picking up my child, I was told that if they did it for me, they had to do it for every parent. Is that such a bad thing? As a parent paying a significant amount to send a child to a private montessori, I didn't feel it an unreasonable request for a teacher to talk to me and tell me about my child's day. When dropping my child off or picking her up, I was rarely acknowledged by the staff (not even a, "Hi"). The month that I volunteered to read with the children one day a week, the two owners never greeted me, acknowledged me, or thanked me at the end for my time. Thankfully another teacher at the school recognized that I had no idea what my volunteer duties were, and showed me what I was to do. At the end of the year, I couldn't wait for school to be over. Needless to say, we won't be returning.This was by far the worst scholastic experience...ever! I would never, ever recommend Blue Mountain.

I am sorry to read the negative review below - that scheduling/communication conflict sounds like it was frustrating, but that has not been our experience. There was frequent staff turnover when we initially joined a year ago, but new management as of several months ago has done an incredible job staffing the classrooms properly and addressing any prior challenges. Materials are upgraded on a regular basis and the outdoor playground is a wonderfully maintained space with natural grass and all the fun things to explore. Outdoor time is prioritized at Guidepost and kiddos go out 2-3 times a day (weather pending). We love Montessori and though all guides may not be fully Montessori-certified(?)...I'm not certain...but, wouldn't know the difference anyway because all the guides are wonderful and do their best to adhere to Montessori methodology, all the classrooms and materials are certainly Montessori, and fostering independence is highly encouraged. Our children have flourished during their time at the school and love attending. Most importantly, the guides are incredible. All caring, loving, fun, energetic, patient, truly compassionate and brilliant leaders whom we have complete trust in caring for and teaching our children. Furthermore, we feel that the campus is very secure and safe and all the proper protocols are in place. Safety drills are practiced on a regular basis which gives us peace of mind because that's the world we live in. The school also uses the Transparent Classroom app which is an insightful tool for tracking a child's progress in their classroom and with their works and development. He left with a strong foundation in math, science, and writing, but also with creativity, confidence, and a deep sense of compassion. I checked out every preschool imaginable and there is no other place like The Bella Vita School. The children are cherished and treated like the very special individuals that they are. They get to garden, help make meals, learn Spanish, dance, science and herbs, math, reading, art and music. There is a ton of outdoor time(great back yard space with wonderful play structures, slides etc..) and a low student-to-teacher ratio that is so very important to a healthy learning environment for academics, socialization and emotional growth. The curriculum is very special and beautiful and includes friendship studies, job days, journals, and emotion cards to name a few. The vegan snacks and meals that are provided are delicious and the healthiest you will find anywhere. Since joining Children's World, we have seen a dramatic change in her level of curiosity, confidence and overall demeanor. She is so eager to learn and has found a new joy in learning new things. Mona is absolutely WONDERFUL. She cares so very much about each individual child, their own individual progress and she encourages an open dialogue with the parents. We have sent our daughter to quite a few preschools in the area before making the decision to move her to Children's World Montessori and it was the absolute best decision we have made.
