We also love that both classrooms spend a lot of time outdoors in the yard--our kids talk a lot about the garden they tend to and the flowers, vegetables, and fruits they grow there. The school is an authentic Montessori program--the teachers are highly trained and skilled and the curriculum is planned and purposeful. Unfortunately, any school can throw the word Montessori into the title and that doesn't mean they implement an authentic program, but rest assured, this school does. Our kids are thriving! Since starting here, our two littles are excited to learn, have become increasingly independent and take more initiative and are more cooperative with each other and other children. I have PTSD from the judgement my child received, lack of support, poor communication, and overall unprofessionalism of leadership. The teachers were very kind, but unfortunately, not fully equipped to support a variety of children's needs. My child has thrived since leaving this school and had zero issues with classmates and teachers. I believe if you're child is quite docile and loves to work alone that this could be a fine enough option for you, but if that's not the case, I'd encourage you to look elsewhere. And my best advice is just to talk to a handful of parents at the school. It can seem really nice on the surface, but the best way to know what it's really like is to talk to the community of parents that currently have children enrolled. Many felt the same way, but as you know, it's hard to find good childcare so it was the lesser of the evils for a lot of families. I fully expect the school to try to retaliate this review (as defense was often the communication I was met with for any concerns), but I hope that some of the professionalism has come back to the school and they will just receive the feedback and learn from it.

But the one thing that you can count on at Autana is them addressing and mediating any issues that may be happening. The women are sweet and nurturing. They teach structure and peace and love our kids. I love that they eat healthy snacks and do community activities with the families of the school so we can all get to know each other. If you are looking for women who really invest in their job this is the school for you.

Her teachers are experienced, warm, and caring, and she breaks out into big smiles when she sees them. Sara is very respectful of how you'd like to parent and offers alternatives if certain methods weren't working out (for example, my son would not sleep during the day and I wasn't ready to let him cry it out - so there was a period where Sara or the other caregivers would tote him around in a baby carrier to get him to sleep). Based on what she reported to us, the environment felt unwelcoming and hostile. One staff member became visibly emotional when our daughter was hired, which created an uncomfortable and inappropriate situation. There were also serious concerns about unequal treatment and behavior that appeared discriminatory. Additionally, our daughter shared troubling reports about how some children--particularly students from veteran families--were treated, which raised further concerns about the school's culture and leadership. As parents, we expect any school to uphold basic standards of respect, fairness, and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. We cannot recommend this school to other families.

When asked for feedback -- any feedback -- on my child's school activities, I was told, "no news is good news". When I requested once again for a two-minute stand-up conversation once a week when picking up my child, I was told that if they did it for me, they had to do it for every parent. Is that such a bad thing? As a parent paying a significant amount to send a child to a private montessori, I didn't feel it an unreasonable request for a teacher to talk to me and tell me about my child's day. When dropping my child off or picking her up, I was rarely acknowledged by the staff (not even a, "Hi"). The month that I volunteered to read with the children one day a week, the two owners never greeted me, acknowledged me, or thanked me at the end for my time. Thankfully another teacher at the school recognized that I had no idea what my volunteer duties were, and showed me what I was to do. At the end of the year, I couldn't wait for school to be over. Needless to say, we won't be returning.This was by far the worst scholastic experience...ever! I would never, ever recommend Blue Mountain.

They are super communicative via the Bright Day app, email and in person. If I could change a couple things, I wish they were open just 30 minutes longer in the evening. And I would love if they provided meals (no Bright Horizons seem to do this, but other similar care centers do). As for specifics, this center is the most disorganized and rude place of business I have ever encountered. I was so excited to have my son start there and tried to be proactive every step of the way. They didn't send me a bill until June 4th to pay, even though I was told that all payments are due on the 1st and he may lose his spot if not paid on time. Despite me stopping by and personally trying to make a payment on the 1st, no one was able to help me and the director did not call me back after I left a message. When I went to drop off my 2 year old son on June 4th for the first time, neither the front desk, nor the teacher in the classroom knew of him nor expected him. The teacher told me to "just leave him", despite not knowing anything about him, his medical history, allergies, or even introducing herself for that matter. I filled out and submitted everything but the shot records/physical (which I had with me at drop off), so how is it possible that the teachers are not even aware of a new child starting? I let the teacher know of my son's reflux issues, including instructions not to provide juice or similar acidic foods, and to please pass the information onto the afternoon teachers. I informed them that I've filled out a list of foods NOT to give him. Later in the afternoon, they fed my son apple sauce, which was specifically on the list that I provided and no one bothered to read. That day they took my son with no shot records, not signed in, and I wasn't even given a code for pick up. I left another message for the director to please call me. As you can guess, I did not receive a call. Instead, I received a message AT WORK, from another parent. The director had given out my personal and employment information for other parents to contact me. Then she emailed me the code for the door without calling to check on my concerns. When I went by to pick up my son in the afternoon, I again asked her if she could spare a minute to talk. She walked past me and said "I don't have time, if you want to talk to me in the afternoon you need to schedule an appointment". The following morning I finally got to talk to the director, who was extremely rude and unsympathetic. Apparently 20 other children started recently, so that's why the teachers had no information on my son. She works 11 hour days, so she's just too busy to address parent's concerns. And after I complained about her giving out my personal and employment information, she simply stood up, told me she's issuing a refund and to find other care. I have found other care, and would be perfectly happy to never deal with Kathleen again. However, the promised refund is nowhere to be found.
