Service, five stars. Beers, 2.5 to 3 stars so I averaged it out to four. I stopped here because it is on the Laurel Highlands Pour Tour. I learned that the best days to come are Monday through Wednesday because that is when they make the pizzas that they are known for. I love Detroit style pizza, so I might have to come back for that. On weekends, they typically have food trucks when they don't offer the pizza. The bartender was extremely friendly and gave me a lot of information about the brewery and their beers. They had their tap lists printed out an in acrylic holders, but the were smudged and hard to read what some of the options were. The bartender looked for one that was clearer, but they were all pretty bad. He filled me in on the information on any that weren't readable. I tried four different beers and wasn't really a fan of any of them. I was surprised, because one was an Oktoberfest and I typically really enjoy those. I tried one last one that is apparently "everyone's favorite" and still didn't enjoy it. I suppose every brewery has their style and I guess Bloom Brew's just isn't for me. Thankfully, they also have ciders and other drink options on their menu, so I ordered the Laurel Highlands Meadery Cranberry. It was perfection. Just the right amount of fruit and sweetness. One thing I like is that they have several size options. Basically, small medium and large size pours with varying ounces. If I hadn't ordered the cider, I probably would have ordered the smallest size of the sample that I liked the most. read more

Wow, what? This is a little unassuming taproom next to a laundromat in West Newton, where I'm pretty sure I've never been before. You sort of have to drive by it and turn around down the street. Your first clue that you're on to something good here is that the parking lot is very full.. I went in on a Monday night and the place was packed. People at the bar, people at tables, and everyone is here to grab a beer and get some of those Detroit slices. You absolutely want yours loaded up with a dollop of whipped ricotta, fresh basil reduction which is like a pesto, and their housemade hot honey, which is not hot but is applied liberally. You can add those extras for no charge, and I'm not sure how they are affording that on a four dollar slice. Bonus points for them offering a couple of Athletic NA beers since I no longer drink alcohol. Always appreciate when places are thoughtful about this! Great beers, ciders, and even mead! We got the food truck and wandered in. The bartender Travis was very welcoming, he suggested things based on what I told him about my taste. It's very clean, professional establishment. We will definitely be back. They even have a nice mural of west Newton on the wall! read more

This was our first visit to the Draft Wagon. It was quite unique as it's across the river from the brewery and has limited hours and is only open during the warm months. It was cool because it has its own bar on the other side with stools attached. In addition to the beer it's limited on what is on draft compared to visiting directly with the brewery. if you pull up with your dog and don't realize that the riverfront portion is a bit further down, you will miss it. We almost left but found someone walking back from the property next door. You take a trail down to the riverfront, pet friendly, food tru and live band portion. For the summer, this is where it's at. I really like the riverfront aspect is of this and how it was pet friendly and chill. Everyone was calm and enjoying nice craft beer. We will be back with the dog as long as they don't care about her being on the table! She doesn't lay on rocks so it's the table or nothing, I'm hopefully no one was mad! Checked this place out a while ago with my boyfriend and a friend. It's a bit of a weird setup for a brewery. They have like 24 beers on tap and you can get samples of anything you want and then order pints. They also had wine and cider available (from other companies). There are a few stools inside or you can take your drinks out to picnic tables or down by the river. However if say you are drinking a cider you are not allowed to take it outside the building, which they explained was liquor laws. The staff didn't seem overly welcoming or friendly but then seemed to fall over when regulars came in. Maybe it was an off night, who knows. Also al the beer is served in plastic cups which I hate. I understand, especially with the outdoor space but there's something about drinking a good beer out of plastic. Now the beers. If you are a fan of sours you may love this place. I personally am a dark beer drinker and have only ever tried maybe two sours I kind of liked. When I was there they did have a few dark beers available. The problem is all of their beers actually taste sour. It's offputting to sip a stout expecting dark and roasty notes and getting sour. If I have a friend who is really into sours I may recommend they check it out. However I don't think I will be back because it just isn't my thing. read more

This place is behind the fire station and down around back. They have a decent amount of parking in the lot but not a ton. So cute outside with picnic tables and some umbrellas, a food truck, dog bowls and live music to make it even better! The staff was super nice and patient too plus the river makes it feel like you're kind of on vaca or something! read more

Bloom Brew and the Yough are an amazing combination! The owners are super amazing and always are brewing up something new and exciting! My favorites have been the hot chilli pepper beers, Jeffeweisen, and Peach Buzz. Because they have such a great variety I love sampling all the new beers each time I go - but often return to my favorites to fill my Bloom Brew Howlers. I take all my friends to Bloom Brew when they are in town, and everyone has found something they love. From the light beers to a heavy stout they always have enough on tap to please every beer drinker. Anyone traveling on the GAP trail or the Yough river should take a short detour to sample some brews and take some for the road! read more

We took a little brewery tour this past Saturday of some breweries we have never been to. Thanks to these passports that has a lot of breweries in Westmoreland County we found this one. Not too hard to find but it is hidden behind a firehouse. The space outside is great. It's along the river and in the warmer months I bet the parties outside are great. There is a little sage for a band and a lot of space and benches to hang out in. For the cooler months it's still a good location to sit outside. Inside is small but it's really cool if you are into beer making and breweries. We got great service and really good beer. I wish we lived closer because this would be a good place to walk to and hang out. If you are not from this area but you want to try out a new brewery definitely make a trip to Bloom Brew and you will have a great experience. They usually have food trucks too! read more

Nice little hang out by the water and I LOVE the food trucks !!!! The beer is definitely not my type , the lime flavored beer which I was told tasted like corona was extremely hard to get down! It kinda tasted like you put a couple of those sour candies and a half of bottle of lime juice in a beer. The berry beer tasted like raspberry vinegar..... actually with a little olive oil and season it would have been good on a salad. I have been dreaming of making a trip to Bloom Brew for quite some time, being an avid follower on Facebook and often tearing up when I see the list of available brews. Finally, after my drinking buddies took one too many day trips without me, we planned a Westmoreland brewery tour that started at Bloom. Once we entered West Newton, we followed signs leading us there. Their space is shared with the local volunteer fire department, so if your GPS leads you to the West Newton Volunteer Fire Department station, you're in the right place. Bloom is at the back of the building and there is a parking lot available. For anyone who doesn't know, Bloom Brew boasts an impressive list of over 20 beers available at all times. This is no small feat given the modest location. They only sell smaller (32 oz) growlers but they will let you sample up to 4 different beers. My friends and I tried to make the most of our 4 samples each, trying not to repeat so we could each get a taste of as many beers as we could. The breweries admit this is homebrewing turned into obsession. The 24 rotating beers on tap made with local ingredients make that a little obvious. I've personally been a fan of rye beers lately making Roggen Z Noggen my favorite by a long shot. I usually like a hefeweizen so I tried Jeffeweizen. It was a bit on the sour side for me however my friend who said she's not a hefeweizen fan but does like the sours ended up buying a growler of it. I liked the Peach Buzz but wanted it to be a bit sweeter. Down the Hatch was a good one, brewed with chili peppers. Speltacular Saison (with peppercorns) was an interesting surprise. Lil Brown Cacow (a chocolate milk stout) was very smooth and tasty. But in the end, I went back to my first choice, the Roggen Z Noggen to fill my growler. Hours are limited to Saturday 12-6pm for growler sales, which is the only real reason I've deducted a star. That and the fact that I have to drive about an hour to get there. (I have encountered Bloom Brew at a few bars around town and a couple brewfests, though.) The growler glass is $3 and depending on your beer selection, fills are $5-8 (most are in the $5-6 price range). Not a bad deal at all. Inside the door at Bloom Brew there is a chalkboard where it is written, "We love our craft, you'll love our beer." Truer words were never spoken. read more

Bloom Brew is a favorite! The people are great, the beer is great.... What more could you ask for? The rotating list of brews is always offering something new. The fruit beers are always delicious, and the staple simple beer is the Jeffewisien. New people should bring a growler and also plan to buy one of their custom growlers, they have them in all the colors with sealing lids. If you don't plan to take a growler, be sure to bring a few dollars in cash for a tip since the samples are free! read more

A true Nano Brewery. 24 taps 12 chairs(inside). These brewers know no boundries. While they they do more traditional styles. They surprise you with the untraditional. Who makes a beer with Sichuan peppercorns, they have! I am partial as a fan of sour beers and they do not disappoint! The seating is limited inside but the hospitality is not. The friendliest staff I have come across and I have been to more than quite a few breweries. The seating expands to a great riverside location in good weather and should be experienced! read more

I gave Bloom Brew a shot after tasting some of their offerings at the West Newton Brew Fest. I had no idea we had a place like this in the area! I'm no beer afficianado, but I tend to have trouble finding sours, which I really enjoy. Bloom had about 5 different sours on tap the night I went! Samples were encouraged while we were there, and growlers were how-do-they-even-make-any-money cheap. The staff was enthusiastic and helpful, and they even had a food truck on-site. read more

This is a brewery in my hometown, and as such I'd be remiss not to give it a shot. Overall, I think these guys would have a good thing going if they changed focus a bit. First off, they seem like nice guys. Second, their tasters are free and generous - they allow up to four per person. The location is nice, with easy access, decent parking, and a river overlook. I imagine the siren for the adjoined fire station is hellish, though. They've got some barrel aging happening, and I saw that they're doing a collab with Hop Farm, Rivertowne, and maybe Helltown on what sounds like a plum sour ale. Definitely shows promise. As far as the beer goes... guys, think about this. You've got like 24 beers on right now. How quickly do they move? How often are you open? Most of what I tried had no carb, no head, no nose, and no depth of flavor or mouthfeel. The Down the Hatch was good green chile flavor on a weak pale malt base. The saison was overpowered by peppercorn - no Belgian yeast character. The Dark Field of Dreams was very thin and watery. The maple stout was the same way. Hop Test III fell way short of what I expected - almost no aroma, no carb, too heavy a body to let the hops shine - all I got was bitter. To be fair, I liked the Sacre Blue and I dug the Barrel-aged Blackberry enough to grab a squealer - props for that one. Try to focus on 6 or 8 beers at once, move your inventory, repeat. I saw your small system so I know why you're doing what you're doing, but I can't say it worked for me. Freshness and quality shouldn't fall by the wayside for the sake of volume and novelty. read more

Disappointed lately. Literally not a single beer we liked there. If you like "fruity" or sour beer ... or a cider then you might be ok. We like stouts, porters and lagers. They used to have better selection for those with our palates. Black Bog and Dark Dreams and things like that were good. Bring beers like them back. And if you run out of them ... that's telling you something ... brew more. Hoping it gets better. read more
