For some reason, I had a heck of a time trying to find this place but once I walked in, I felt an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. A friend has a daughter who is into tap, and shoes by Jason Samuels Smith are sold exclusively through Bloch so I was looking forward to seeing what they had in-store, in addition to some items for myself. Even though I walked into a rather busy shop, I was greeted by a sweet girl right away, and she brought out shoes and some pants I was interested in. There is only one fitting room so there will be a wait if there are more than a few people looking to try on dance/activewear. What fascinated me was watching someone get fitted for pointe shoes, and this took me back so long ago even though I was fitted at a different brand. A cool customer nearby gave me her opinion on the sizing of some pants I was hesitating to try (she teaches over at Alvin Ailey, so I'm taking her word for it) and then she was called over to assist with the fitting. Everyone here seemed to know one another and it made me think of how small the dance world really is. Sadly after trying on the shoes and pants, neither worked but I know I can order the pants online in the size and color I desired. As for the tap shoes, they had the basics (my favorite being the classic black and white oxfords) but the current seasonal color was...yellow. Maybe they have all new staff now since the negative reviews from 3-6 years ago because the more recent reviews are really positive, which they definitely deserve! This little store is tucked in a nook near Lincoln Center. It's a lovely experience going there. The women who work there are nice and very knowledgeable about their products. And you don't have to feel intimidated if you don't consider yourself to be a "real" dancer; they treat everybody well and the same. It's nice to see all ages, body types, and shoe sizes, ballet, tap, and everything else, all there, trying on shoes, testing them out, and having a good and attentive shopping experience. Just make sure you don't ever buy any products from the so-called Bloch store on Amazon because those are fake fake fake! We could not have had a more positive experience at Bloch New York! The staff were welcoming, the store is lovely. My daughter loves Bloch Mirella Whispers and wanted to try those and explore other options as well. She had an appointment with Rachael, who was really knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. I always buy my daughter's dance shoes here, tights, leotards. One day I had to buy my daughter shoes there because my daughter's feet are growing. My daughter told the lady she wanted to go a size up from the size she recommended. My daughter said it was tight on her feet and felt uncomfortable. She seemed a bit annoyed that we didn't like her suggestion. I'm glad we went the size my daughter asked for because she never complained to me. Other than that, they have a nice selection of dance wear and shoes. read more

we came here this morning expecting the absolute worst. Me and my family are only in NYC for a couple of days and I desperately needed to get fitted for pointe shoes. Bloch had been the only store available for a fitting, but the reviews online scared me because of the amount of negative feedback. Honestly though, as far as my experience, everyone there was very nice! The lady who fitted me, Shae, was attentive when listening to my concerns and found a shoe that fitted me nicely. They were quick and super encouraging, not making me feel self conscious about my feet. I'm so glad I went. read more

This is the only Bloch store in New York. I will not buy from here If There is another Bloch store in Manhattan. When you go in, no one greets you. I spent $150+ within 30mins and the cashier didn't smile, didn't said thank you. I like their product, just hate their service. read more

I have gone wayyy to many times to be treated TERRIBLY each time. They never have stock. When I asked for a certain shoe with high vamp and narrow. The guy said all their shoes were. HA A JOKE. never have hards. Never have narrows. THE LAST TIME I WILL EVER GO WAS WHEN THEY DISRESPECTED MY TEACHER AND YOUNGER SISTER. I asked for her regular shoe but a larger size because she grew. They automatically said they looked bad. WHEN THEY LOOKED GREAT. My teacher agreed over FaceTime and you could hear the staff talking bad about her. Even staff not helping me! Rude blond girl told me I had bad feet. My daughter has been struggling since she started on pointe... we never seemed to find shoes that fit right. We decided to drive from RI to NYC to have a fitting at the BLOCH store on Columbus Ave, and I'm so glad we did! The woman who fit us, Charlotte, was so patient and knowledgeable, and relentless in helping my daughter find the perfect shoes. She spent an hour with her, really spent time talking to her, looking at her feet, and trying many different styles until we found JUST the right shoes that fit. I was stunned to find that the shoes she HAD been in were an improper fit-- way too narrow, but loose in the heel, and an improper box for her foot shape. It seems that the stores we went to before were simply putting my daughter in whatever they had in stock, rather than really taking the time to fit her properly. Even though it is hours away from where we live, we will DEFINITLEY be making the trip to NYC BLOCH store any time we need new pointe shoes. read more

I needed point shoes today (European balance) and wanted to try on before purchasing them. My left foot is slight bigger and I wanted to try on shoes. I've been buying Freeds and Blochs. Since freeds wasn't opened today I popped into Bloch when they opened. Staff insisted I get a fitting and next appointment was Tuesday morning. There was no one else in the store. If I'm trying on 2 different pairs to make sure the shoe feels right on my left foot, it doesn't take 30 minutes. I wanted to be in there 10 minutes max. With this poor experience, I'm just going to stick to Freeds going forward. The staff had zero interest in helping me this morning. Not sure if the girl with the brown chin length hair had a rough morning but she could use some tips on customer service. read more

Walked in this morning to an associate eating her morning bagel sandwich and ice coffee laid out across the counter while she had her mask off chit chatting with the other associate and cashier. I only mentioned the mask bc they require and demand a mask while shopping in store but certainly don't adhere to the same guidelines. Not to mention, I wasn't greeted at all instead met with attitudes from Lauren and Heather like I was interrupting them with my desire to shop. Lol Once I gained the attention of Heather and told her what I was looking to purchase for my daughter she attempted to help but never informed me of the return/exchange policy. I only learned of it 25 minutes later after reviewing my receipt once back in my car. When I phoned to verify the policy the associate told me, "we have a sign in front of the register that we usually refer customers to" but I guess Heather forgot. Especially seeing as they were so busy chatting and eating in front of the same register. What a joke! read more

they aren't trained pointe shoe fitters. period. they also require an appointment but they can't fill the slots and will turn you away even if nobody is in the store. the employees eat on the sales floor and don't even try to hide it from customers. salad and stuffed shells, all kinds of coffees and breakfast. that's just like, a basic thing that you don't do. read more

We were waiting in line outside the store after getting out of class at SAB (because the store was at capacity) and at exactly 5pm, with 4 little girls and their moms waiting to get in, the store clerk informed us that we were not getting in! We were all sure to be buying items, and the lack of flexibility and rudeness was off the charts. It's definitely a total turn off and not great customer service. read more

As a dancer, I have gone into this store specifically for pointe shoes on three occasions and I have had the most uncomfortable fitting experience each time. The staff is not helpful, not warm or enthusiastic about finding the best shoe that fits me. They just stand around, arms crossed, and reluctantly offering information that would assist or give me thorough understanding of the shoe I am purchasing. It is frustrating to say the least and I have avoided writing a review because I have been hopeful that each time I go, it will get better. Sadly, nothing has changed and the customer service is not even worthy of this one star. read more
