I visited Blo Blow Dry Bar in February so this review is a little late. I was a little skeptical after reading so many terrible reviews but I went ahead and took a chance and I am SO glad I did. My stylist was Marina and she is AMAZING. I am from Texas and wanted big Texas hair (very few stylist can achieve this) and she did a FANTASTIC job! I was getting compliments before I even left the mall where this dry bar is located and all night throughout the night I got compliments. I regret coming here. The male stylist was rough and hit me with the blow dryer twice. I asked for wavy hair and got curls like I'm 8 years old and going to my communion. The curls are all curled the same way so they are becoming one giant curl - typical rookie mistake. The curls on the left side of my head are very tight vs on the right side they have already straightened out. The male stylist blamed me for the flyaways and said I should get hair Botox for them... plus tried to convince me that I should dye my hair. Maybe don't try to upsell your client and focus on actually doing their hair well! Really disappointed and will never return to this chain of salons. read more

Blo bar always asks for feedback so here is what I shared with them: Thanks for following up. I would like to share some feedback with you. In summary Your upbeat marketing and genuine requests for feedback belie the actual service received at this salon. It's expensive for what it is, and the stylists are not friendly.   My experience 10-Aug: The first time I had a nice stylist, her name began with a "T". I didn't have time for a style, so she blew it out and curled my hair and hair sprayed all over. It looked nice. It was hard as a rock and didn't move, but that was preferable to it falling out completely due to the extreme humidity.   17-Aug: The next time I had Roye(?) who was moderately friendly. She warned some clients don't like her nails. I am one of them. Her insanely long fingernails scratched my scalp and she pulled my hair while washing. The good news is: My hair looked amazing! Too bad it only lasted for about two hours in an air conditioned office. She didn't use any product at all. No mousse to hold as I asked and I don't think she used any hairspray.   31-Aug: The last time I had the most surly stylist, Genesis. I was pleasant and friendly to her, and she was all business, checking appointments and clearly pre-occupied. My hair was ok, not great. She hair sprayed only on the ends as I requested. It lasted for a couple of days. I look forward to this little treat when I work downtown, but after giving this place three chances, I am going to have to find another salon. The girls here are inept and unfriendly. This is a real change from the BloBar I went to in Yorkville. I recently discovered Blo Blow Dry Bar. While the norm of getting your hair done can go up to $100+ for an updo - Blo Blow Dry Bar makes chic, affordable! While they only have 2 updos (high society - think Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's and a high ponytail) on their standard hair menu ($35) - you can ring them a photo of any coif and they will charge you $65. I got the High Society updo for a fundraiser, and my girl really took her time doing my hair. At one point, she didn't like it, and started all over again. You can't ask for much more for $35! They are the busiest in the mornings and at lunch, so if you need to get your hair done during those hours, BOOK AHEAD. They are located 2 stores down from the Swarovski down the hall. read more

This past weekend I had booked the Blo Bar for my moms 60th birthday after our spa day and before dinner as a surprise. Unfortunately my mom fainted at the spa and was rushed to the hospital - being scared for my mom and wanting to give the blo bar notice we would not be able to attend I called them, they did not answer so I left a voicemail letting them know we were on the way to the hospital and if they could call me back. I never received a call back. My friends were trying to support me and were calling them for 45minutes until they reached someone who said they could not help but would leave a message for the manager but no one ever followed up. I was just charged $62 on my credit card. I called to follow up on this and get support to refund full/partial and just talk out the scenario. I was told that this will not and can not happen as the IT department of blo bar is set up in a way where no refunds can be processed. I asked if it would be helpful to call head office or the manager and was told they don't have the number for head office and cannot help me. I was told that all customers know that they will be charged if they do not show for their appointment and this happens sometimes and people are just charged. I explained that I have the hospital note from my mom's visit to prove we could not make it and were in a very serious situation however I was told there's nothing to be done and this happens to people and they make it aware that this could happen. I am extremely disappointed, disheartened and would not recommend anyone book here - the service was non-existent and uncaring and you're much better off booking somewhere that isn't a large corporate chain read more

First of all, this place is nearly impossible to find. A friend and I went on Saturday evening (a pretty normal time for blowouts) and the mall it was in was desolate. It took us 20 min to find the place and when we did, it was a closet with two sink buckets and 4 plastic chairs. My friend was even told to crouch down for an hour+ because she was too tall for the stylist. I told my stylist what I wanted (waves and volume) with a little bit of hairspray because my hair is thin so too much product makes it look greasy. He curled my hair fine, but at the end, he put finishing oil just on my roots to slick it down. I looked like a founding father!! I went home and added so much dry shampoo and essentially re-did my hair. My friend wasn't too happy with her hair either, she had to restyle it as well (the stylist was going to leave her updo with a rat tail????). read more

I had to get 6 inches of hair cut off because of my blo bar experience. First and LAST time I will ever step foot into a Blo Bar - and girls, please take a read before risking your hair! I went to blo bar to get my hair done for New Year's Eve. I thought, "why not?!" a quick way to get a wash and style before heading out without a ridiculous price. I'd like to say "you get what you pay for" but I got far worse. To start, the staff that work there are clueless and the least helpful I have ever experience. They were barely able to give me directions to the location as I had never been in the path before, multiple entrances were blocked off and I was having difficulty accessing it. After my wash, my stylist asked me what I would like done to my hair. I told her my hair holds really easily and I'd like really loose wave with a lot of volume. She started drying my hair, yanking at it with a horrible brush and rushing it to get it dry. Then proceeded to curl my hair with a flat iron into tight ringlets. I tried to stop her, but she told me not to worry - she's not done and it'll all drop and loosen up. By the end, I had tight ringlets of curls in my hair like I looked like I was going to an 80's prom. She could tell that I was unhappy with it and decided to brush through my whole head and continued to yank at my hair. (it looked like i had frizzy curls and was partly electrocuted) They were sharing 1 bottle of hairspray throughout the whole salon, and other hairdressers were walking around speaking loudly, swearing and eating a large bag of chips around the salon, wiping their hands on their clothes and proceeding to do hair. Absolutely embarrassing. Not only did I have to pay for my service, but THEY FORCED ME TO TIP! How tacky! I had to go home and shower, redo my hair myself and realized that my hair was nice and crispy. I have very long hair, no bangs, spent the last year growing out my layers. My hair framing my face was burned off and all different lengths. Obviously a girl's worst nightmare. I tried to email the salon to express my concerns and let them know how badly my hair was burned (sent pictures and all). I got a very poorly email written back, not even proper grammar and sentences basically saying "oops, why don't you come back in for another blow out!" As if I'd ever like to return. I've had to cut my hair twice since new years to fix this burn. My hairdresser told me that it looks like they used a bad brush and a straightener that was too hot when my hair was still wet, causing the burn. I've had to get bangs and re-do layers. My cheap blowout has cost me over $300 in cuts and products to try and fix my hair - and I still have some crispy pieces and a ton of fly-aways. The best part is - the company couldn't care less. I guess they really do stand by their work. So ladies, if you'd like to take a risk at burning off your beautiful hair for a cheap, trashy and unprofessional salon - I'd fully recommend Blo Bar! I stopped in here , I didn't make an appointment because I was a little nervous from the reviews , but I'm so glad I did ! I wish i was happier with the results but my stylist seemed tired and never really answered me when I asked what style she thought would have for me the best. I haven't never had a blow out before so I would have really valued her opinion. The final result did not look good on me and I was very disappointed at how much I paid for this service. I also got the $10 add on head massage. She forgot I reminded her and she barely massaged by head for the 10 mins and I know because the time I was getting the message didn't even amount to 2 whole pop songs. Just awful. Not worth it. Would not recommend it. I didn't enjoy my experience for several reasons. Firstly, I booked my appointment early in the morning because I had to get it done before work. Even though I booked an appointment and it was one of the earliest appointments available, they still made me wait 20 minutes past my appointment time. As a result, I considered leaving but stayed and was sweating throughout my entire blow out as I was worried I'd be late for work. It doesn't help that they use flimsy towels to ensure water drips down your shirt. Not very relaxing. Secondly, the price is just not worth it. The lady helping me was lovely but she spent what felt like 20 minutes on my hair (the next appointment was already there) and the result was not terrible but certainly nothing special. read more

This really pains me as I wanted to like Blo so so much but...I just couldn't. The magazines are all torn up, the counters are covered with hairbrushes full of hair, and the disposable towels are AWFUL. I wanted some loose curls for an event that evening, and instead I got some big 70's style curls. May I add that I have a bob so this just looked..different? Luckily they all fell out on my 10 minute walk home (?!?) so I ran a straightener through my hair and went to my event. Other notes: I pointed out to my stylist where I usually part my hair (more to one side), she responded "I know, no problem" and then proceeded to do a center part. My stylist kept leaving me to answer the phone/talk to people walking by in the Path. I really wish I had read the Yelp reviews before going as it appears I'm not the only one to have a rough experience here. read more

I was nervous reading some of the reviews- but I had a good experience. Booked for 6:15, was in the shampoo chair by 6:17. The stylist asked about my preferences for products, how the water temperature was, pressure washing and with brush. I was really happy with the results, my hair looks shiny, healthy, stylish. My guess is that these establishments just hire any young girl or guy who loves to style hair and has no real experience in how to handle different types of hair on different people. I didn't see any credentials hanging on any walls, so I could AT LEAST have seen someone was a STUDENT there! But no... I would not go back to this location. I've gone to three other locations for many years and had plenty of good experiences, but this time it turned out all wrong. My hair looks like it does when I spend a quick 30 minutes blow drying out my curls myself. There was a miscommunication about what I wanted, I guess - I was asking for a "classic blowout" - and though the girl doing my hair was nice and tried to fix it, it was too late (my hair had dried in spots and the subsequent attempt to blow it out left it kinky, poofy, and frizzy). I wish she'd used their hair menu as I was just looking for the "red carpet." I didn't realize the full extent of how bad it looks in the back until I took a closer look after leaving the location, or I would have complained on the spot. Pros: -The place is open early and can usually fit me in if I request an appointment the day before - Some of the stylists are quite good Cons: - They frequently run late in the mornings, so you can get there for 7:30 and sit waiting until 7:45 or even 8:00 - They use disposable paper towels, so the back of my shirt is always made wet - They need more magazines - The stylists are assigned randomly, so it's hard to get a consistent result. Some of the stylists are way too rough with my hair and I don't think that the tools used are the best quality. The hair dryers are particularly bad. Also, some stylists disregard your request and just do whatever they want. I had that happen today. I wanted a sleek blowout with volume and slight bend at the ends. I got Texas hair instead. When I said that it was too much, the stylist tried to straighten parts of it. The result was not good. I feel like I totally wasted my money. read more

Terrible experience at this location. I have fine, long, blonde hair and was deciding between 2 styles - simple up-do vs. waves - for a day of travelling. My hair doesn't hold a curl/wave well, only stylists who know what they are doing can make it work. But I decided to go with waves bc stylist was convinced he could make it last MULTIPLE days... Lies. It was clear he couldn't when the waves started disappearing during the appointment. Instead of admitting he couldn't do it, he just kept fiddling. The appt ended up taking 90 min. and looked no different than what I do daily with a blow dryer and brush in 10 min. Also, my back and shirt were soaking wet because he didn't use the paper towels properly... Which also makes me think... Paper towels? Really? The other Blo location on King was great though... Blo out waves lasted 3 days and they used real towels. I may try this place called Flaunt based on other reviews I've read, but The Path Blo Blow Dry Bar won't see me again. read more

I used this location few times in the past and the service deteriorated very much last few months. Today I was disrespected, while 3 of their stylist were fussing around one costumer I was left to wait for 40 min with dripping hair and finally I asked how much longer (they are still fussing with curls of one demanding costumer). Very inexperienced stylist finally started to do my hair, by this point I did not care anymore because I missed 3 trains. She did a decent job but I left only 10% tip instead of my usual 20% to make some kind of statement. Their apologies were lukewarm and only upon I expressed my unhappiness to the cashier. Dear Blow bar stylists we all pay the same and deserve the same treatment! Imagine if in hospital more demanding patients would get preferential treatment, not a good practice. read more

I was satisfied with my overall experience from the booking (online) to the waiting for my appointment time and having my hair washed & massaged and then having it blown out then curled. However, I felt like the scalp massage should have been more vigorous since I paid $10 for it. Most salons don't even charge you for this service. The signature style that I chose, I probably could have done it myself, it wasn't anything extra special for the price ($70- massage/style/ tax/tip). I don't think I'd go again, not because I wasn't satisfied with the service or outcome but because it's not in my budget. read more

I booked an appointment five weeks in advance of an important event, showed up at 7:10 for my scheduled 7:15am time (per their instructions: five minutes early), and they had a long line up of people that they clearly decided to take at the same time. The woman told me I was early so I would have to wait. After waiting and advising that I would be late for my 8am meeting, they finally washed my hair at 7:40 and told me that I'd be out by 8am. I know how: they rushed through my hair, yanking it in large sections, which from watching the other blow dryers (I can't call them stylists), is how they do it with everyone. It was a really unpleasant experience as they yanked my hair. Please don't waste your money here. Do it yourself. The job they did was just adequate, the service is unprofessional, the brushes aren't cleaned between customers, they were sharing a blow dryer because some of them dry faster (their words), and the women coming out don't look like they've had that fabulous blow out that they get at salons. Why? Because salons do it properly, in small sections. With care. I will never book at this place again. If I want my hair styled, I will either do it myself or go to a salon where they value business. read more

Deeply disappointed on many accounts. When I sat down, I told my stylist I knew the quality of my hair very well and to avoid specific products (serums, hair spray). First, she told me she was going to air dry my hair and then use a flat iron to curl -- which is specifically against the purpose of a BLOW OUT. When I kindly asked that she round brush my hair, she hesitantly complied. I asked for her to alternate directions if my curls in order to achieve a certain "beach wave" look. She said "ok ok ok" but then didn't do it. Finally, at the very end, I wasn't looking and realized she was rubbing serum from root to end of my hair -- exactly what I asked NOT to do. When I tried to stop her she said "it's only a little" so I immediately asked for dry shampoo -- a technique I know would absorb the oils. She said they didn't have any -- which is unfathomable in a blow dry bar -- and then sprayed me with hair spray again. Finally, I expressed my disappointment and another stylist kindly offered to help if I wanted to come back later in the day. I called the salon TWICE and left my name and information for a follow up and never heard back. Not a single person returned my phone calls about my bad experience. Terrible customer service. I'll not only never go back but I swayed several of my friends and colleagues against booking appointments while they were in town for an event and sent their business elsewhere. read more

I don't know if they gave me their most inexperience hairdresser but she blow-dried and curled my hair and it barely lasted until the evening (when I go to my normal hairdresser, it can last up to 5 days). We were not greeted upon entry, the employees never introduced themselves, and had us hang our own coats. They barely washed my hair, and I was done in about 20 minutes. This is my 3rd time at this location. The first was a 3 star experience; the second turned out to be a 5 star experience. The third was very disappointing. I told the stylist exactly what I wanted (because that was what I liked about the second 5-star experience). I gave up requesting how I wanted my hair blown-out (i.e. with large brushes as curlers) because she felt she knew my hair better than I did. Basically, since I know my hair better than any stylist, this blow-out will not last as long because my hair has been pulled too much into submission and is frizzy. I had to ask for holding product, twice(!), and even then, it was a quick spritz and toss through my hair. Since I was given an 8-pack gift certificate for Christmas, I will book the 5-star stylist on my next visit. IMO, hit or miss if you just walk-in and the pretentious attitude of the employees is sometimes way too much. Tone it down, people, listen to your customers and act like professionals. read more

Extremely disappointed. Not only way the style not well done, but as a result my hair is broken and damaged. I now have tons of broken-off fly-aways, including a piece in the very front of my hair that the stylist must have broke off while styling. I have been getting my hair done at the Blo Bar Path location for a while now and every stylist has always done a great job! However, more recently I had a bad experience with one of the stylists who appeared to not care for anything I had to say about dealing with my own hair (I have very curly hair). I wasn't very pleased with her when she completely ignored a few very simple techniques that must be done with my type of hair whereas may not be applicable to others. The whole experience was awful as my hair looked terrible and I had an important function that evening. I was really ready to walk and never go back. The manager at the time (I can't remember her name unfortunately) noticed how disappointed I looked and came over immediately to fix the situation. She moved me over to Genesis's station (who had previously done my hair) and in less then a quarter of the time Genesis fixed my hair, made it look perfect and I was out and on my way to my evening function. I highly recommend the Blo Bar, despite this one unfortunate incident and thanks to the Manager and Genesis for making my day! I now will always try to book with Genesis because she is super sweet and does an amazing job!! read more

I had a bad experience a few years ago, chalked it up to the woman doing my hair was having a bad day or something decided to give them another chance today- woman doing my hair was rude, rough, and did a mediocre job at best. the whole point of the place is to pick from a menu of styles they all know how to do- but this location never refers to it, I told her I wanted beach waves she asked if I wanted my hair like here, which wasn't beach waves I said NO- curls, but not tight curls- does that make sense? she said kinda. and then did a crap job, this location sucks. lots of other options in the path- go someplace else. read more

I went to Blo in the path in downtown Toronto. I had a terrible experience. I felt like I was completely being exploited as a customer. I went to get a french braid done for a wedding. All it was was a french braid. Because it was not the kind of braid listed in their "Book of Styles" they charged me $76. It took all of 10 minutes for them to do the braid. The woman there - Denise - would not charge me the $39.95 it costs for them to do a fishtail braid, which is basically the same kind of braid as french. I didn't even know they had a book of styles. I would not recommend giving this store your business. read more

The lunch hour is crazy busy. Best time to go is after work. It was my first time there. The staff was great, unfortunately the service wasn't. I was dripping wet as they don't use proper towels. I had water all over my shirt at the back and dripping down my face. What if I had been going somewhere after? I was told that all the stylists are certified, but I have never had my hair pulled or my face poked with the brush as much as I did that day. Their aim is to have you out of there in 1/2 hour. My colleagues and I booked an appointment for a blowout since we were having some corporate head shots taken that afternoon. I have a lot of curly hair that needs time to have a successful smooth blow out (I know because I have had many) however, the stylist rushed through it which meant my hair did not dry properly/smoothly. On top of that she stuck around 8-10 round brushes to my hair which she had to rip out at the end leaving my hair a frizzy mess at the back (which i did not notice until I got back to work because she didn't show me the back of my hair). I had her smooth out the front with a curling iron and then went back to work. Once I noticed the back of my hair was a complete mess, I had to walk back to the salon and have another stylist fix it. This place is overpriced and not all the stylists are skilled. My colleagues were also not impressed and none of us will be returning to Blo Bar again. I had scheduled an appointment at another location and cancelled, I will just have my regular salon EVOKE style my hair. read more
