My external hard drive experienced mechanical failure. (It wasn't solid state.) A local computer professional in our Indianapolis IN area was not able to retrieve any data from it. We paid him $150 for his 3 hours of earnest attempts. He consulted with another computer repair company, and they agreed with his diagnosis - it was the "worst possible scenario" as far as complexity, they all said. I had a thumb drive that somehow became corrupted and I could not access my files. There were records and photos that were irreplaceable and others that would have taken maybe a hundred hours to recreate from paper records. I contacted several companies and received estimates from $200 to over $1000 to recover the data. One company even called me before I could even complete their on-line enquiry form. That should have been a red flag. I ignored it and sent them the USB drive. I got a call a couple of days later saying that the drive needed some sophisticated chip off work and that the cost would be $975, but, since I had sent it in so quickly, they were willing to offer a discount and it would only be $795. I felt I was being scammed so I had them send the drive back. I did a bit more research and found David Blizzard. I was skeptical as his on-line price was low,. I contacted him and was impressed by his response. basically his price was his price. no hidden fees, no extra costs, just a flat fee. I sent him the drive and about a week later I received a new drive with all of my file on it. If there were any that were not recovered they must have been inconsequential. All of the important files, especially those that could not have been replaced were there. Don't fall for the high priced and, in my opinion, sneaky companies. Excellent service! Small family business. I called first to ask all my questions. Very friendly and just exuded knowledge, experience and reliability. I felt completely confident that my data was in safe hands. Costs are posted on their website so you know up-front what their charges will be and if the data is not recoverable there is no charge at all. Upon receipt of my USB stick they immediately sent an email letting me know they would start working on it and would update me within 48-72 hours. But I received another email 24 hours later letting me know they had finished and that all data had been recovered. The email included a link which enabled me to see the recovered data in a File Explorer layout where I could open the Folders and see the individual files. Once I gave the go ahead they sent me an online invoice and as soon as I had paid, I received a receipt and then an email with the tracking information for the replacement USB stick which was mailed out immediately.
