We were driving through town and stopped in for a bite. There aren't a ton of options in Crestone, so we figured we'd give it a shot. It appeared that the place is part restaurant, part bar and part hotel. We wandered into the bar and were greeted pleasantly by the woman there. She also turned out to be our server. We sat out on the porch because it was nice out. There's a nice little park right next door to the deck, so there's lots of cool stuff to look at, and you can't beat the view. The menu isn't complicated but there are enough options to go around. Apparently we missed the boat and should have ordered the pizza. But we didn't know so we all went with lunchy sandwich type options. My husband got the chicken wrap, which he said was good. I got the BLT, which was fine in execution but served absolutely bone dry. No sauce, no mayo, nothing. I wound up eating about two-thirds of it and then eating the bacon out of the rest of the sandwich. The fries were good. The beer selection was decent, and the coffee (which I ordered) was actually very good. I wished I'd been offered a refill but I never was. Our waitress was busy -- tending the whole bar and basically serving the whole joint. So I cut her some slack. But I did feel like it was a bit overpriced for what we received. One of the two available dining venues in town. This one appears to be run by angry buddhists. Namaste and hate are an interesting combination. It's likely just effective marketing for all the weirdo cultists in town; mostly dudes in shaolin robes who administer deep dickings at the drop of a hat (I have on good authority) and philosopher kings in white robes. I asked no questions about either. Since there is nothing else to talk about in this town, I heard a lot about the proprietors of this place. They seem to complain a lot. They complain about having a lot of business, they complain about having to come to work, they complain when you order a beer. Lots of complaining. First, I was pleased that they had some civilized brews on tap. That was about the end of my excitement. Second, I noticed that people seemed angry that I was there at all. The menu is fairly outlandishly expensive for being at the end of nowhere. Given the choice between ordering here and eating at the completely guerrilla burrito/donut/coffee stand, I chose the latter. As the stand sells out in about half an hour, this seems a popular choice. The environment in Bliss seems to be pervasive in this little town; angry bitchy people with outlandish demands of their neighbors. They do have wifi though. A nice touch because, if you don't have Verizon, you don't have phone service. read more

Should you be so fortunate as to be in Crestone, or nearby, treat yourself to a bit of Bliss. The place is a Labor of love, appreciation and community. The daily offerings vary, and supplement a base menu built around solid, tasty locally sourced foods. Bliss is a bit of a shock to those of us who have chosen city life and the lifestyle that maintains that choice. It is simple, and such a pleasure. Overall I really like this place. Partly because it's the only place in town, but also because the owners, especially Eva are genuine, nice and all around interesting people. That is when you can get a minute of their time; they seem to be very ver busy. There is a gentleman there named Todd who works behind the bar and I especially enjoy his service and company. I've always enjoyed the food. Their breakfasts are great, especially the "Eva Fickmuffin" breakfast sandwich! My god, it's to die for! Their avocado tacos and dinner entrees are always great as well. Truly I can only praise the food. My only complaints, and the real reason I'm giving only 3 stars is that for my last few visits the service just sucked, even with different servers each time. I sat for almost ten minutes before having to ask for a menu. Another ten minutes before reminding them to bring water. Then had to ask for silverware, all the while the server walking back and forth in front or behind me. I generally felt either ignored, or that my requests weren't important enough for the staff to remember. My other complaint would be that there are almost always loud, undisciplined, (sometimes unwashed and unkempt) children running amuck ruining what would otherwise be a great atmosphere for dining and conversation. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars, because it's damn hard to find quality food in small mountain towns. I'm also going to throw this disclaimer up: Crestone is a small hippy town with a pot shop at it's highway entrance. If you're not into this, then you shouldn't be in Crestone, period. With that out of the way, let me proceed. The food was good, they had burgers and beer, which I was surprised to find. The latte I had didn't really qualify for a latte, but I'd been backpacking nearby for four days, so I'm good with it. The service was friendly, but a little slow. Again, I don't care. This place is the best in town. The food is so yummy! Atmosphere is great. The staff is super friendly. The only downfall is that their is only one poor waitress doin the dining room floor and being a bartender. So they really need to hire a bartender and a waitress so guests aren't waiting forever on their tickets to pay and their condiments. For reals though that is the only downfall.... Spent nearly three weeks staying at the Bliss Inn behind the restaurant (not affiliated with the restaurant) ... so came in here several times with friends for lunch and for dinner. Laid back ambiance, friendly and courteous staff... and Gretchen is outright awesome!!! Is the food something you'd wanna write home about? Probably not, but it was decent each and every time. It came quickly, was hot and of ample portion size. Their curry veggies over rice is enough to feed yourself twice and is excellent!! Pizza was tasty, sandwiches are good, the burgers come in two sizes and are juicy and the wraps are really good!! French fries were piping hot and you get enough to share. Denise's review below from last March... I read it and laughed!!! She writes: "A sandwich - Caesar salad with horrible dressing and kids BLT was $83!" She is either dyslexic or transposed the numbers... Depending on the sandwich they ordered, I can see that possibly being $38 with tip... but $83? Not a chance! This place has excellent pizza. High quality ingredients, crispy crust. They also have Rampant Imperial IPA on tap, which is a very tasty beer if you're a hophead like myself. Service is a little spotty but what do you expect for the middle of nowhere? Slow down and take it all in. read more

The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because the positive is they have nice staff, fun local customers and a really cute well maintained atmosphere. The negative was that my friend and I both got food poisoning after eating there, and we had to leave our trip early. I specifically had the Caesar salad and the dressing ( most of those dressings are made with raw egg) gave me salmonella and I had to get IV fluids injected because I became severely dehydrated and sick. This place has potential but they need a visit from the health department and need some lessons on sanitation. read more

Bliss was the bartender although not the owner. Coincidence? Enjoyed sitting at small bar talking with locals. New Belgium beers on tap. 3 stars for cesear salad. Bliss is where you go when you stay in downtown crestone. It is one of 4 plaves to get food: 2 restaurants, a sometimes-open cafe , and an organic market. They serve a few different traditional american and mexican dishes. There is a bar in the corner and you can frequently find interesting people to mingle with. I noticed some people complained that it was slow but what do you expect with a two person staff? I personally didnt think my food took very long at all. read more

Stayed at the fabulous Vajra Vidya Buddhist retreat center and hit the Bliss Cafe on the way out of town. Everything is either organic or grass-fed. Had a very good quarter pound burger, fries and a milk stout! Yum! NIce assortment of beers on tap and the food is very healthy and tasty. I had a nice time with my loved ones and a rockin' good cup of coffee! Staff was nice about it when my fish tacos came breaded. Whoops, I had no idea. To HE-double-hockey-sticks with these food sensitivities! They are relatively new and I have been too sick to eat out for a long time. I didn't think to ask about breading when I ordered them. I had an unfortunate experience at this cafe. First of all, know that there's not much choice in little Crestone. This was one of two restaurants I patronized, the rest of the time I cooked at my cabin rental because of the lack of choice. I ordered the fish 'n chips as my one unhealthful meal of my stay in Crestone. It turned out to be even more unhealthful than I'd imagined. The fish was undercooked. The owner, who was waiting tables when I was there, never came back to my table to check on me to see if the food was acceptable, to ask if I needed anything further, or for any reason whatsoever. He was not busy as I was the only one dining at the time I was there. I should have tried waving my arms to flag him down, but I didn't. I ate most of the fish, anyway, since I was hungry. MY MISTAKE! The undercooked fish made me ill for most of my three day stay in Crestone. The "chips" were so bland that I only ate a few of the huge mound on which the fish had been placed. So the lesson here is be careful what you order at Bliss Cafe and send it back if it doesn't seem quite right. Do whatever you need to do to get your waiter's attention, because it's not easy. Here's another reason for the one star review. As I observed the owner eating his pizza while strolling around the restaurant, in order to "clean" his fingers following each slice of pizza, he thoroughly sucked on his fingers. Now, I realize that all hippie-wannabes want to appear laid back and above it all, but sucking on your fingers while walking around your restaurant? Really? Sorry, but being filthy dirty does not make you laid back it just makes you dirty. It also puts your customers in danger of being on the receiving end of whatever germs you're harvesting in your mouth, then on your dirty fingers, and finally transferred to my plate as you serve me my food. Strolled into Crestone later at night, small town I think this was the only place open. As far as the server, he was the only one working there and it was a busy night so I give him credit for keeping it together and a smile on his face. Sure it was hectic, especially if the place isn't used to being full. The food just wasn't good, though, and I can't get around that in a restaurant. Our appetizer came AFTER our meals, too, which was strange, but we were told the cook was looking for the ingredients and finally found them so that's why it took so long. I gave 2 stars because again I just thought the food was bland and not fresh tasting. But the ambiance was nice, service was good considering the situation, and I'm rooting for them! read more

Real food, deliciously prepared. Most of their food is local, organic or both. They are happy to make things vegan for you if you like. I think they could also accommodate you if you are gluten free as I avoid wheat and had 3 dishes and a smoothie that were likely completely gluten free right off the menu. Had the most brilliant quinoa dish there today. Best thing I've eaten in months. The owners and staff are as nice as the food. Love! read more

We stayed in Crestone on our family vacation and this is the main spot in town. The service was meh and the food was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! I believe we were given special " tourist" menus. A sandwich - Caesar salad with horrible dressing and kids BLT was $83! Water for drinks so no charge for anything like that. We were starving and just went with it - but I assure you there is NO way the locals are paying that price for food. We wouldn't dare go back and felt disappointed - since ALL the other reviews lead us there and to think it was one of my interests and excitement to stay in a commune type town and vibe with people. Instead I got the impression that these people don't like to be bothered. Not the warm " hippie" welcome I hoped and dreamed of. Do yourself a favor and grab a snack at the grocery store across the street. Shame on these owners for pillaging travelers. I believe the " other" reviews were guiding us to eat there and get taken advantage of! You've been warned. And I am all about paying for quality - experience and service. They could have had all of our money throughout the week- but like I said - TOO EXPENSIVE and actually kinda gross in flavor. read more
