I had a very mixed experience with Dr. Stacy Coen, tainted at the end by an add-on fee that wasn't mentioned earlier in my exam. I came in January for a routine eye exam, which resulted in a prescription (which I was okay with). I didn't have time for the full eye dilation so she mentioned I could come back to finish the rest of the exam another time. I had already paid the $120 for the full exam so she assured me I wouldn't have to pay again. I came back a month later for the eye dilation and she decided that I needed to go through the refraction again, which was fine, yet when I was checking out she told her secretary to charge me $35 for the service. When I questioned this, she overheard me and popped out of her office and said to her secretary to "just send me the January results if I didn't want to pay the extra fee". So in essence, she decided to work-in an additional service without mentioning up-front that it would cost anything, and then when I questioned it, only offered to send me the "lease effective" prescription since I didn't want to pay. It was only after reminding her that she didn't warn me of the charge up-front and I technically didn't ask her to do it did she offer to waive the fee. This is bad practice, and the fact that she's affiliated with a brick-and-mortar Warber Parker store right downstairs sends all sorts of warning signals. To also mention another red flag: her practice doesn't take any vision insurance, which is probably the most backwards thing I've ever heard of when it comes to getting your vision checked. I will be getting a second opinion from another doctor later this year, and in summary, I can't recommend coming here. read more

Please sit, so I may tell you the tale of my experience with Dr. Coen. I have been wearing glasses for 15 years, and my prescription has changed about every 6 to 8 months in that time. Never, ever in the history of my life have I ever received a more comprehensive, more accurate exam than with Dr. Coen. I went to an ophthalmologist's office for about a decade, and not even they could provide as accurate an assessment of my vision as her. She did tests that I had never seen in 15 years, and they resulted in the clearest vision I have had since before I wore glasses. Additionally, Dr. Coen patiently and skillfully assuaged my unreasonable fears of having a retinal detachment, while never once making me feel like the crazy person that I really am. Ultimately, I had been walking around with glasses that were way too strong for months after another optometrist completely missed the mark on my prescription. Dr. Coen was able to fix the mistake quickly and I immediately saw results. Although appointments in here office are a little more expensive than other area optometrists, in my book the extra cost is absolutely worth her phenomenal quality. You do not want to walk around with the wrong prescription for months, trust me! As long as she is in business, I will never see any other optometrist again. read more

I feel like I am going to be reiterating what all the other reviews having been saying about Stacy, but if you hear something enough times, then it speaks for itself. My fiancé and I both went in for eye exams as we hadn't gone in about six years. Because of the last experience I had, I was nervous. I blink a lot whenever something that I am not in control of comes close to my eyes, and as such I was berated by the last optometrist I went to, as though it wasn't an involuntary reaction, and I obviously was doing it to be an obstinate brat. I warned him of it, and still I was reprimanded like a child. Not a great experience. Enter Stacy Coen. While filling out paperwork, I talked to her assistant, who was very pleasant by the way, and was upfront about the whole blinking issue. She experienced it first hand when she did the glaucoma test, and was nothing but reassuring and patient with me. Once I was introduced to Stacy, I explained the same situation and she mimicked the same kind, reassuring nature that her assistant had shown me. She made me feel comfortable, relaxed, and when it was time for her to dilate my eyes, she was exceedingly patient and the whole process was over in a matter of a few short minutes. Her easy going personality made her very approachable and easy to talk to, and it was the best eye exam I have ever had. Instead of dreading it, while I never will look forward to something like this, I can say that all the nerves I had before are gone. read more

I would never go to this office again. They were pleasant during my office visit but when I asked for help with an emergency situation they wouldn't lift a finger for me. They couldn't even bother to call me back. When someone finally answered and I explained my situation I was told the doctor wouldn't help most likely and someone else would call back sometime. I can't believe how little they cared given that I'd lost my glasses and was just asking for a five week extension on the prescription so that I could have a replacement pair made until I could get an appointment. MA law makes it illegal to provide new glasses on a prescription that hasn't been updated in 24 months. Looking at my prescription they must have been aware that without glasses I can't drive,see myself in a mirror clearly, walk down a street or buy groceries in a store. Naturally my family was out of town when this happened. Even after I explained my situation in detail they offered no help. I don't know why Warby Parker would work with Ms. Coen. read more

I went here for an eye exam because I was planning to get glasses at Warby Parker. I will not be returning as they say they do not take ANY vision insurance. I had gotten a medical ophthalmology exam but my ophthalmologist did not do contact lens/glasses exams, so I came to this office. I felt like I had a very brief, rudimentary exam. Please look around as there are many optometrists in Boston and even if you want to get glasses at Warby Parker, please find an optometrist who will actually take your insurance. As a healthcare provider myself, it is disappointing for practices to flat out say they will not take insurance and also if that is the case, you should question what their incentives and motives are (likely driven only by money). read more

A Night for Sore Eyes After Work. They answered my phone call on the first ring. They offered multiple appointments after work during the week. One page form to fill out. They billed my insurance. No waiting, and it was all done in 30 minutes. And they're located within Warby Parker. Dr. Coen was as affable during the exam as she was attentive to my questions. At my age, I need to start focusing on wearing progressive lenses, but was hesitant after having trouble getting used to them two years ago. No problem! Dr. Cohen gave me a prescription for three different types of lenses so that I could choose now and in the near future what was preferable to me. this is the second time i have had my eyes tested by Dr. Coen....and i felt like i owed a review for others to leverage. By far the most efficient, confident and friendly exam I've ever had. She's thorough, professional, explains what she's doing and gives great information during the process. It was a 2 hour drive from Cape Cod to Boston - but worth it and nice to get off cape too! Her equipment is state of the art and she evokes confidence in the entire process. Additionally, i was able to receive a refined improvement in my prescription so that's really great too. Dr. Coen is hands down the BEST eye doctor around. I have been seeing her for two years now and find her to be the most patient, understanding and efficient doctor I have ever ever worked with. She calmly assesses the issues to get you on your way; she knows you don't want to be at the doctor all day. She walks you through every step and every decision so that you completely understand. While waiting for my eyes to dilate, she even took the time to help me pick out my glasses at Warby Parker (her fashion choices are ON POINT). Making appointments with her are so easy and I have never had to wait more than 30 seconds before being welcomed. I've had a few friends sing the praises of Dr. Coen and when it was time for my annual exam I knew exactly where to go. My previous exams in years past seemed foreign and out of date. I happened to purchase a set of frames from Warby Parker (where Dr. Coen's office is located but she isn't PART of Warby Parker) with a prescription I received from my old doctor in April. When I got the glasses, there was definitely something wrong with the vision in my right eye. Frantically, I went to Dr. Coen in hopes of not purchasing a new pair of glasses that I could never use. Dr. Coen literally took one look at my eyes and knew that I've been wearing the wrong size contacts and they were actively bothering my cornea. My cells were so inflamed, they were actually making it hard for me to see. Amazingly, this was something my own doctor hadn't noticed in April. After a few trips to her office, some medication and a new prescription, my glasses work and my contacts work. I had a great experience with Dr. Coen. read more

Best eye exam experience ever! I moved to Boston recently and just realized I was almost all out of contacts and needed to get a new eye doctor urgently. I walked over on my lunch break without an appt. They said they were happy to accept a walk in and actually had an apt in 2 minutes! Dr Coen was super nice and helpful and thorough and I could just tell that she knows her stuff. She asked questions and didnt try to rush me through the appt. After not seeing an eye doctor for over three years and tearing my last pair of contacts, it seemed as good a time as ever to book an appointment somewhere to get some more contacts ASAP. This was my first time visiting Stacy Coen's office; I was interested in getting another pair of Warbys soon, so the convenience factor played a huge role in choosing this office. I booked my appointment on Friday afternoon for the next Monday afternoon. Being able to schedule an appointment online (and so last-minute) is huge! Definitely a plus. I arrived earlier than the recommended 10 minutes, but the receptionist, Naomi, was very friendly and helpful while I was waiting. I don't currently have separate vision insurance, but after discussing my health insurance situation with Naomi, she informed me that my health plan actually covers basic exams (save for a $20 copay), so instead of the anticipated $175 bill ($95 for the exam plus $80 for having astigmatism in one eye), I only had to pay $100. That was such a nice surprise, and I'm so grateful that she took the time to look into my health insurance plan to find this out for me. She explained the pros and cons of opting into a an additional vision plan and did not make me feel like an idiot for asking so many questions, either. Plus number two. Instead of seeing Dr. Coen, I was seen by Dr. Vania Yip; I didn't realize more than one optometrist operated out of this office, but I have nothing but stellar things to say about Dr. Yip! She was amazing from the get-go. She made me feel comfortable right away as we bonded over my outfit and the retail store I work at. In the past I've only ever had stuffy, disinterested eye doctors, but Dr. Yip was so relatable and kind. She answered all of my silly questions without missing a beat (you would think that after wearing glasses for 20 years and contacts for 10+ years that I would know what astigmatism is... nope). She took the time to discuss different contact lens brands and how each one might work for me. In the end, I walked out with 5 days' worth of daily lenses along with a pair of 2-week lenses to figure out which works best for me, and there was no pressure to order contacts with them on the spot. Plus number three. All in all, I'm so happy with my experience at this office, and I will definitely be returning for future exams. read more

Wrote a review on Warby Parker but wanted to do so under her actual name. Dr Coen was fantastic. She was super nice, the appointment was quick but professional. While my eyes were dilating I went to Warby to find glasses and then came back to finish my exam. She referred me to a specialist as a precautionary measure because I was a first time patient and wants to double check that it's nothing which I was so appreciative of. I will definently be going back to her for my future eye needs. read more

Really disappointed and I wanted this to work so badly, especially given the proximity to Warby. I mistakenly kept coming here for 2 years in the hopes that they would finally get my prescription right. I think I've seen every Optometrist in the office, too. I think they're just overly reliant on what the auto-refractor tells them versus really figuring out your prescription, because they're trying to get you in and out for the line of patients they schedule in 20-minute increments. I finally got a second opinion and it's clear that I've been in glasses way too strong for me for way too long. I was prompted to go find a second opinion as I tried to get fitted for contacts earlier this year. I had to come back about 5 separate times, and eventually just stopped coming back, because they could never get it right and their doctors were getting progressively more frustrated with me for their inability to fit me properly. Another point of frustration is that there are actually 3 different doctors here, so it's kind of difficult to pick up where you left off with one. I won't be back. read more

Dr Coen is so professional and nice! I went to a couple eye doctors before I came to her and she's by far the best among the eye doctors I have visited! I was there for a complete eye exam and I booked an appointment on Warby Parkers website. I arrived nearly 30 minutes early. But I was admitted immediately and they helped me filled out some very light paper work. And the doctor immediately performed the exam on me. English is not my first language and I'm super shy so always very anxious about seeing a doctor, but she made the visit very easy for me. I had issues with my previous prescription and she was patient and listened to my concerns and chose the best prescription for me. The price is higher than other places that I've been to, but it is worth it. She's so professional and I complete trust her. Other people there are also incredibly nice and helpful. I saw them helping a guy putting on contacts for the first time and they are very patient and informative. I will definitely be coming back to this place. In fact I don't think I'll ever go to another place for eye exams and prescriptions. I'm very very happy with my experience:-) read more
