WOAH. First time in all my life that I sampled beer I actually kind of enjoyed. Personally I'm not much of a drinker of the alcoholic beverage variety, but it was neat to tour this particular brewery. More so, we were able to be taken in the back without hassle as the staff were quite pleasant and cheerful about sharing their cool operation. Can't remember what half the machines are called or the steps of the process, but it's cool to see how it's made (like the TV show haha!). They are also renovating the space to accommodate more people by installing a second floor/patio area, which will look awesome when completed! Also adding a bunch of taps in front for more efficient service Got a souvenir can after the tour and tried some different drinks. I liked the Lemons & Limes (L&L) kettlesour and the Black Currant flavours Didn't like stout or barley wine, but the other 2 didn't taste like a typical can of beer with that super bitter taste which was a delightful surprise :)

Short but sweet pit stop to Blindman Brewing on the way up to Cowtown. It's been several years since my initial visit to the brewery. We dropped in on a Monday afternoon (around 3:00pm) and sat outside on the expanded patio/parking lot area. Didn't take a look but they also have an upstairs patio area. Interesting that you text your order to the waitress (403-588-BEER is clever). Service was friendly and quick. The variety of beers on tap is great as there's something for everyone; hop forward, lager, malt forward, sour/saison, special, nitro, non-alcoholic (Wild Brewing Kombucha and Annex root beer) and cocktails. Would have liked to try a small taster of Sarah's lemonade but guess they don't do 4oz samples anymore. - Kettle sour: the final test batch ($3.50 8oz) - I've drank several versions of their kettle sour. This one was just as I remembered. Light and citrusy with a subtle bitter note. Our second favourite from the four we tried. - Florida weisse: lemons, limes & clementines ($3.50 8oz) - new in the series for spring/summer. Slightly zesty but would have enjoyed this beer more if the clementine note came through. We wanted more clementine flavour. - Florida weisse: blackberry & plum ($3.50 8oz) - I've tried the blackerry & passionfruit previously (canned) but it fell a touch short. Sometimes beers taste better from the keg so we gave this version a shot. Tasted similar; weak in flavour, almost watery/bland. Would skip this one. - Dwarf sour cherry saison ($3.50 8oz) - this was easily our favourite. Well balanced, refreshing with a slight tartness to it. Reminded us of a kriek. - Raspberry and strawberry fruited saison ($15.00) - this was one of their special beers a buddy saved for me. Deliciously fruity and aromatic. It's not easy making a good raspberry beer but this baby gets two thumbs up. Sad I couldn't get my hands on the Pierre on peaches bottle. Plastic only. If you've got time, always worth a visit to BB to see what new concoctions they've brewed up.

This is my third visit to Blindman Brewing in Lacombe. Today I'm here to celebrate their 3rd Anniversary! Congratulations on offering the finest craft beers in Alberta! I'm really enjoying the Longshadows IPA, but your New England Pale Ale is by far the superstar of beers! Really love the ambience, the service, selection and great value for the quality of craftsmanship!

Beer flight- get the NEPA, throw on a porter too

Your bartender is awesome, please keep her forever. I stopped in with a co-worker on our way to a work event in Edmonton and was so pleased that I did. She regaled us with tales of travels and listened to the boring crap we had to say about our children (I even make myself fall asleep with that). The porter was excellent (I've found maybe 3 in my life I've been down with- I'm annoying, I know), but the New England style pale ale is absolutely killer. The little nook under the stairs was adorable and I was feeling the vibe of the place. The fact that I was directed here by a local who said, "go down the road to the right, cross the train tracks and chug some beers" probably added to the fun small town taproom image I bought into.

Service and vibe were great. Enjoyed a sampler and a taco on my way through town. Worth the stop.

(I always seem to forget my growler) Siding 14 located in Ponoka, AB which is about 5-6 minutes off Highway 2 to the east. Before the town of Ponoka was named, it was Siding 14 of the Calgary-Edmonton Railway Company. The name of the brewery celebrates Alberta railway heritage. So cool! I stopped in to do some tasting and fill my growler. If you forget your growler, they sell not only growlers but they also have howlers which are a scaled down versions of a growler. They have cans kept in a cooler if you looking to buy cold beer. You can also have a pint of your favorite beer on tap if that is more your style. The ingredients are locally grown and sourced. Siding 14 is proud to talk about our their beer's journey from Field to Glass. The tasting room is large, and well decorated. The staff was very friendly and inviting. One of the ladies had just started and didn't have a whole ton of product knowledge, but the other employee did, and all my questions were answered. I did a flight taster and picked 4 different brews to try. All were very good. My absolute favorite taster was the Southern Express: Taking Your Minutes, which was a coffee infused stout. Such a good combination! I ended up with a growler of Pullman Pale Ale. A nice easy drinking pale ale. If passing by on highway 2, I highly recommend stopping in at Siding 14 Brewing. The beer is delicious and the people are awesome!

Finally made it happen on a Saturday morning trip out to Red Deer. If you haven't heard of Wild Brewing, they specialize in kombucha. 6 flavours on tap and nitro coffee from Blackbird Cold Brew (from Calgary). In case you've been living under a rock and don't know what kombucha is, it has many, many health benefits! Tasty too. The inside is small but they do have one small table for two and a picnic table outside to sit at. Love the garage sliding door and the cargo bike! The branding/logo is on point. Slick, sharp minimalistic design. Since it was our first time, we wanted to sample all their options. A couple other people that dropped in were getting their growlers replenished. Their prices are pretty reasonable and in line with other kombucha places I've visited recently. $5.00 for a 12oz cup and $10.00 to fill a growler (1L). - Flight ($5.25 for 6) - they don't have anything fancy for their flights but we ain't too picky. They come in cute 50ml sized beakers. Takes me back to chemistry class. I thought all of the flavours were great but Breezy and I mutually agreed our favourite was the peach ginger. Blueberry mint was a close second. Love it! Hope Wild Brewing continues to expand to (you can get refills at Town Square Brewing Co in Edmonton, Raw Eatery & Market in Calgary and Float Now in Saskatoon to name a few). Finally a reason to stop in Red Deer.

I'm not really one for the bar scene. Even less so for bars in small towns (I know Camrose is…read moreTECHNICALLY a city, but not to somebody who's lived long periods in dense areas of Calgary).... so when I walk into a bar at 8pm, I don't expect it to be PACKED, but I do expect there to be SOME business... and more over, I expect there to be some staff providing actual service. When I came in with my two brothers and our dad we were one of only 2 groups there: the other being a group of 6 or 8 people at a cluster of table pressed right up against the end of the bar. The bartender (the only staff on at the time) seemed to know them, and basically spent the entire time we were there standing at their table talking with them. We walked over to the pool table, which is in plain sight from where she was standing and proceeded to shoot an entire game without ONCE being approached, or even called out to... finally, my Dad had to go over and point out that we'd been completely neglected this whole time and retrieve our drinks from the bar (which, I don't know how this place works, but that would never be the case in the city - with an almost empty bar like this they should be able to easily make a round now and then). Over the course of the 3 or so hours we were there, that group left and another smaller and younger group showed up, setting up camp not far from us, and still there was no service in our area save for one brief appearance. I can't imagine what had her so busy all that time. I'm giving this place a second star because the building itself was very well kept, the pool table was in good condition - everything NOT related to service was perfectly fine... nothing to write home about, but fine. The service on the other hand was pretty terrible, and the lack of business at that time of night was completely confusing... until I talked to a friend who's a local, and I was told that at the time we were there (8 to about 10:30) is when "people are at home, drinking for cheaper. They don't start to get busy until later when all the pre-drinkers show up." Yeah... not exactly my kind of place.

Plus a place that does Beer and Coffee in the same name caught our curiosity. Cute place, easy to find with outside curb appeal had us walking right in ready to sit and get it done. If you are just grabbing Coffee, Beer, Baked Goods, etc To Go, just head to the Counter. I kept it pretty simple with their Citrus Beer which was nice and light with no aftertaste. Perfect surprise for me during daytime, especially since I generally drink darker Beers like Porters. I had the DW Smash Burger Special for Lunch and it was just great! The Burger was huge with two beautifully seared Patties, nice and crispy around the edges, but the inner parts still juicy with two Cheese Slices, very Cool & Crisp Lettuce, a hefty Tomato Slice, nice Caramelized Onions, and their Condiment Sauce, which I could quite figure out everything in it. Basically, the Burger was a solid choice I would have again if coming back this way. Absolutely, no dissatisfaction. My friend is a bit more of a picky eater and I really appreciate the Staff being able to accommodate her with what turn out to be a really good Grilled Cheese. Made on Rye with Fried Egg, Gouda & Chedder cheeses, this looked amazing when it came to the Table with a side of Slaw. I got to try a bite and WOW...I would have been happy with that too.
