We stopped in for a couple of drinks. We decided to try the iced teas, then the beer. I had the peach iced tea, which was tasty and not too sweet. I then ordered the If The crown Fits dole whip kettle sour- so yummy! I like that they support local artisans by selling their snacks. We purchased a small bag of garlic Parmesan popcorn to enjoy with our drinks and a large one to take home. We will be returning soon! read more

Several options for brewed beer. Excellent choices from Hazy IPA beers to classic troubled monk.

We spotted Trouble Monk Brewery on the way over to our first visit in town. We debated whether we should come back for a quick drink after lunch downtown; obviously, we did. We dropped in on an early Saturday afternoon. The place was busy inside but no one was sitting outside on their patio (too windy and lots of wasps were hovering around). They had five full time and three seasonal brews on tap. Interestingly, they also have craft soda, snacks and what they call "something softer" where they mix TM beers with another drink. Their beer can branding is on point. Loved everything about it. For merchandise, I spotted golf balls?!?! That's a first for me. Spoiler alert: you need to get a 6 pack of their craft soda ginger ale. By some kind of dumb/sheer luck, we met the individual that makes their ginger ale. He was standing right behind us while we were in line for our beer flight. Talk about small world. Got a bit of backstory on how he makes it and crushes all the ingredients himself. - Flight ($8.75) - we tried the Golden Gaetz golden ale, Homesteader Belgian saison, Open Road American brown ale, Mothers Milk milk stout on nitro (seasonal) and Pesky Pig pale ale. I think the saison (#2) was my favourite out of the five we tried. The rest were pretty standard. I'm not a big IPA fan so take that with a grain of salt. - Craft soda root beer and ginger ale ($1.00 5oz) - now, this was an unexpected surprise. We decided to give their craft soda a try - why not, it's only $1.00 each - and WOW, the ginger ale was FANTASTIC. Easily, the best thing we drank. So good Breezy had to buy herself a 6 pack for home. So good we were fighting for the last sip. It was incredibly smooth and flavourful; you can taste all of the cloves, cinnamon and ginger that's been mixed together. As of now, they don't have their craft sodas available elsewhere so you're going to have to drop by Troubled Monk Brewery for these bad boys. We've been hearing buzz about this brewery and their beer is popping up all over Edmonton (The Common, Beer Revolution and Sherbrooke Liquor store). So, on our latest trip to Red Deer, we thought we'd better check out where the magic happens. The brewery has been open since last June (so it's not even a year old) and already it's been making waves. Waves of delicious beer. The brewery has a tasting room with about 10 tables and few guests were enjoying a pint during our visit. There was one staff member at the bar taking orders, pulling tasters and selling 6 packs and growlers to go. The girl was knowledgable about the beer and you could tell she took pride in working there. It's too bad there wasn't more staff as we felt a bit rushed with people waiting behind us. I'm sure the experience could have been a lot more memorable had it not been busy. Overall, the tasting room lacked ambience. I was glad to pick up a few beers and take them home. We picked up a growler of the seasonal Insomnia IPA ($20). It's not currently available in cans but hopefully it will become one of their mainstay beers. We also grabbed a 6 pack ($12) of the American Brown Ale (which we were told just won second place in a world championship competition). This really is an exciting new brewery and I look forward to tasting more! Also of note, if you're interested in taking a tour of the brewery. They have the best beers in Red Deer. My favorite is the Open Road. They made some changes to the Open Road recently but it is still pretty good. Has more of a smoky taste now. Nice patio outside. I would give it a five, but the atmosphere isn't my favorite. read more

I will have to go there and actually experience the actual pub portion of this company. From what I can see, they have a very interesting little menu. I did go in there once to pick up a six-pack of their Belgian Saison beer and a six-pack of their Golden Gaetz beer. As a single guy whose friends are usually working or doing family stuff, I like to go to a pub where I can sit and relax at the bar. I'm not sure if I can do that there, comfortably. But those two beers I mentioned? Winners. Whenever I go to To The Lost, I always order the Troubled Monk Homesteader! read more

Although most people will visit Troubled Monk for beer, I go there for my favourite pop! (A 6 pack or 2 is also a great hostess gift or something unique to bring to a potluck). They have cream soda, root beer and ginger ale! This past summer I enjoyed picking up some at the Farmers Market too. read more

I have wanted to stop by and grab a growler here for a while, finally I got the chance and it was worth the wait. It's a really neat out of the way location super friendly staff. The beer is top notch craft beer, the taproom is small but busy great prices cool merchandise. Troubled Monk Blonde Ale is now in my top 10 beers. Give these guys a try. read more
