Insomnia IPA ($20) and Open Road Brown Ale ($12) to go
Pamela L.

We've been hearing buzz about this brewery and their beer is popping up all over Edmonton (The Common, Beer Revolution and Sherbrooke Liquor store). So, on our latest trip to Red Deer, we thought we'd better check out where the magic happens. The brewery has been open since last June (so it's not even a year old) and already it's been making waves. Waves of delicious beer. The brewery has a tasting room with about 10 tables and few guests were enjoying a pint during our visit. There was one staff member at the bar taking orders, pulling tasters and selling 6 packs and growlers to go. The girl was knowledgable about the beer and you could tell she took pride in working there. It's too bad there wasn't more staff as we felt a bit rushed with people waiting behind us. I'm sure the experience could have been a lot more memorable had it not been busy. Overall, the tasting room lacked ambience. I was glad to pick up a few beers and take them home. We picked up a growler of the seasonal Insomnia IPA ($20). It's not currently available in cans but hopefully it will become one of their mainstay beers. We also grabbed a 6 pack ($12) of the American Brown Ale (which we were told just won second place in a world championship competition). This really is an exciting new brewery and I look forward to tasting more! Also of note, if you're interested in taking a tour of the brewery. They are offered on Thursday and Friday evenings.

Several options for brewed beer. Excellent choices from Hazy IPA beers to classic troubled monk.

(A 6 pack or 2 is also a great hostess gift or something unique to bring to a potluck).

I have loved every beer I have ever tried here. This time, I had the Mezcalita, lemons and limes, dang orange wheat ale and coffee stout. The food menu is also outstanding. We had the chips and dip trio and blackened chicken tacos. I like that this brewery has both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as games to play. Dogs are allowed on the patio too!

We had our dog with us and thankfully, they have a very dog-friendly patio with cozy couches and lawn games. Pro-tip: go to the dog park across the street first and find the flyer offering a free pint! My husband and I started by ordering a flight of 4. I specifically asked the bartender for 4 beers I wouldn't normally be able to get in Edmonton and he had some great suggestions. I especially liked their 24-2 Brett Stock Ale which we ended up buying a couple bottles of to bring home. They also make an excellent sour. Blindman is great and definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in Lacombe, but if you don't, their beers are sold in stores all across the province and they offer delivery in Calgary, Edmonton, and parts of central Alberta.

Who knew Red Deer was so hipster? I randomly stumbled upon Wild Brew Co on Insta and have been…read morewanting to check them out since that lucky discovery. Finally made it happen on a Saturday morning trip out to Red Deer. If you haven't heard of Wild Brewing, they specialize in kombucha. 6 flavours on tap and nitro coffee from Blackbird Cold Brew (from Calgary). In case you've been living under a rock and don't know what kombucha is, it has many, many health benefits! Tasty too. The inside is small but they do have one small table for two and a picnic table outside to sit at. Love the garage sliding door and the cargo bike! The branding/logo is on point. Slick, sharp minimalistic design. Since it was our first time, we wanted to sample all their options. A couple other people that dropped in were getting their growlers replenished. Their prices are pretty reasonable and in line with other kombucha places I've visited recently. $5.00 for a 12oz cup and $10.00 to fill a growler (1L). - Flight ($5.25 for 6) - they don't have anything fancy for their flights but we ain't too picky. They come in cute 50ml sized beakers. Takes me back to chemistry class. I thought all of the flavours were great but Breezy and I mutually agreed our favourite was the peach ginger. Blueberry mint was a close second. Love it! Hope Wild Brewing continues to expand to (you can get refills at Town Square Brewing Co in Edmonton, Raw Eatery & Market in Calgary and Float Now in Saskatoon to name a few). Finally a reason to stop in Red Deer.
