It was first time there. We were coming back to Edmonton and decided to stop there. The place is beautiful and big. Staff were quick, friendly and helpful. The doughnuts were very delicious and I enjoyed them. They were all very delicious. I'm glad we stopped there and I'm sure I'll go back there again when I pass Red Deer! :) read more

I know lots of people say it's a great place to stop between cities, but honestly my family has travelled from Calgary to Red Deer JUST for Donut Mill donuts. (And considered it worth the trip) One member of my fam jam only likes plain glazed donuts, and Donut Mill are their top fave. There are a huge variety though. You walk in, look at the flavors posted and then say which you want when your turn comes up at the counter. Donut heaven! The staff is always running off their feet but has always been so kind. I really need to try a soup and sandwich sometime cuz I've heard they are great too. If you like cinnamon buns? Walk next door to Glen's and get a cinnamon bun as big as your head. It's a great two-shop-stop! read more

The Donut Mill - Exterior - Sandwiches Near Me - Red Deer County, Alberta

The Donut Mill, located on Red Deer's Gasoline Alley, is a traditional spot we stop at to grab donuts and drinks for the road on our way to or from Calgary. We only had donuts there, which quite honestly are amazing!!! It's nice also to go there because they have different flavours from big chains. The Donut Mill also offers a variety of dishes for customers. A meal will eventually be bought there in the future, in order to try their foods. Service is quick and professional, and always friendly!! Ambiance is alright, the smell of fresh baked donuts is ever present and super nice!! I recommend this spot to anyone travelling through the area, especially their donuts. read more

so gooooooooooddddd i went in 2023 and i got a milkshake it's was in the summer so good so many memories with famliy

An iconic stop in Red Deer's Gasoline Alley. You have to go at least once in your lifetime. What I actually like, maybe more than the donuts, is the healthy soups and sandwiches you can order ... along with a donut of course. They do also have kids meals that come with a pinwheel toy. But the healthy sandwich option when your surrounded by fast food makes this a healthier choice I'd make again! Donuts we have had were sprinkles, a seasonal pumpkin pie, and an Oreo. All of them were fluffy light and fresh. read more

Family stopped here on the way to Edmonton. It's a popular place and we wanted to try it. Got donuts for takeout. The place is like a cafe with soup and sandwiches and of course donuts. You cannot miss it as it has a giant windmill out front. Place has plenty of parking and has a drive through. Inside was spacious with plenty of seating. The donuts are really good here. The only negative I see is there are a few that are quite similar. Our favourites were the Vanilla Lemon, Orange Creamsicle, and Apple Pie. My all-time favourite donut is Boston Cream but I was disappointed that the instead was vanilla whipped cream instead of the usual custard. It brought a different taste and texture that I did not enjoy. The Chocolate Venetian was the closest and was really good. Raspberry Bismarck was your usual jelly filled donut and we all enjoyed that. Will come back again. This time getting some soup and sandwiches and donuts. read more

Really thick donuts without any airiness. The flavors of the filled donuts were decent. Namely the apple pie donut and the raspberry donut. Aside from those, none hit the proper sweet spot nor compared in texture to those I love. I ordered via Doordash, so can't speak for the service or ambiance. At least they got my order right! read more

A perfect rest stop to and from a recent day trip to Calgary. This place is hopping. I noticed some folks enjoying soups and sandwiches, but most of us were here for the doughnuts. I first tried a honey dip and Donut Mill Special. I was disappointed by the honey dip. It was not fresh. The Donut Mill Special was much better and fresher, with its layer of maple icing and whipped cream filling. I love whipped cream in doughnuts, and it's hard to find. On the way back I grabbed another Donut Mill Special and an apple pie doughnut. Both of these selections I was told are Donut Mill's bestsellers. The Donut Mill Special did not disappoint, and the highlight of the apple pie doughnut was the plentiful apple filling. read more

Just the best Jerry, just the best. Stopped for 12 doughnuts. Why waste time picking them they are all a good surprise. Never have I ever experienced consistent golden delicacies like those offered here. We rarely have any left for the neighbours when we get home. Maybe order 18 next time! Good service, fast, amazing food and ambience not required but they have a table or six if you plan to not use the fast drive through. Leva Love stop. read more

If your diving through Red Deer you definitely have to try The Donut Mill. I saw that they had regular customers come in so they definitely are known in the area. They have delicious quality donuts and a variety of them too. The donuts and eclair weren't overpowering in sweetness just enough sugar to make them addicting. I had a chance to try their sandwiches which was good. The food and restaurant felt homely. If you're in the area you should definitely go there for delicious donuts. read more

Ok, can we all agree this is an Albertan institution? Hahaha if you're driving the highway 2 to or from YEG - YYC this place is a must-go if you're craving some homemade goodness and especially if you're craving donuts!! I stopped in to grab a dozen donuts for our camping trip and boy was I glad I did. This place is always a little busy but the service is excellent and you won't wait long. Prices are also decent, I paid about $20 something for a dozen. The selection of donuts is outrageous. They have every delicious kind under the sun. They are also super fluffy and soft and made fresh daily. My favourite is definitely the Oreo one and the Rolo as well. My kids love the classic sprinkles and even tho the donuts are large, you can finish one without feeling too full. They also have food items as well, like diner style. Soups, sandwiches, and coffee is always available. So whether you're looking for a meal or for a treat, you'll find it here. And don't forget to check out the tea store right beside it for every kind of tea imaginable. Love Donut Mill, they are child friendly, and even have colouring pages for the kids available too. Their system is on point as they are established and have been for many many years. Treat yourself next time you're driving through gasoline alley or like me, charging the Tesla there for 20 mins, you won't be disappointed. read more

What else do you have to do today except go for a drive? And what better place to drive but Red Deer and visit The Donut Mill? The iconic spot just off the highway with a windmill marking its location is eye-catching and when you walk inside you'll be greeted with a display of donuts like you've never seen. From the donut of the month (February's is Ferrero Rocher so hurry and go) to the Raspberry Bismarck's or Rolo's you won't be disappointed. But they're not regular donuts - if you consider a Venetian Cream regular- they're delicious little cakes that are worth driving from Calgary or Edmonton to get your fill . While you're there make sure to pick up a box of Mill Bites to go with. Be a great friend and do some porch drop offs for friends so they remember you. What a great way to deal with pandemic stress! read more

So happy to have stopped here to get a fresh made donut. They are set up really well for covid. Love all the varieties of donuts. I got a maple cream filled donut. My friend got a raspberry Bismarck. The Donut Mill is an institution in Alberta, and one of the most well-known stops in Red Deer when journeying between Edmonton and Calgary. There are an incredible assortment of donuts here, pretty much any flavor combination you could think of. And it's true, they're good! Much better than Tim Hortons or other quick service donuts. I do have to say though, there are some specialty donut shops in Edmonton that I prefer, but if you're on the road you won't be disappointed with a sweet treat from here. I also got lunch at the Donut Mill, a turkey sandwich. The bread was super soft and fresh but overall it was a small and plain sandwich for the price. It would have been more cost effective to get bread and meat from the grocery store, and would have been the same level of quality. I also noticed a lot of dust and food dirt on the chairs and fixtures when we were dining in, which wasn't super welcoming. Long story short, skip the food, get the donuts to go. read more

One of my favourite spots in Alberta. I always stop here when driving from Edmonton to Calgary. Best to enter gasoline alley from the south to get here faster. My go to is a turkey sandwich and a chocolate venetian. Note that the yellow pudding is in the chocolate venetian and not the Boston cream which has vanilla pudding or whipped cream or something. Different than Tim Hortons. Chocolate coconut also great! My only complaint is they don't make apple fritters anymore. Where's the FRITTERS?!? Fritter. I hope this place sticks around! So much dang competition on gasoline alley now. Fritter. read more

This is a little Red Deer staple that has been around since before I was born. I don't come here too often but sometimes when I am on the way to Calgary or back I'll stop here and get my doughnut fix. I will say that this place doesn't just do doughnuts. Every once and a while I really enjoy eating a nice egg salad sandwich. They really do a good one here. I always have one on sour dough. Their coffee is really great as well and freshly brewed. Staff is always very friendly which makes a big difference. I liked chatting with one guy about all the different doughnuts and he gave me some suggestions. The last time I went I ended up trying the raspberry chocolate doughnut which was not bad at all! My only qualm is that the bathrooms aren't really that nice or clean. Not really worth taking a star off over though! read more

Got a box of 6 donuts from here and I must say these are some delicious donuts !!! There defiantly not as heavy as most donuts, super nice and light with the Perfect amount of deliciousness. Shut the front door! Cannot believe I had never visited here before! Better than Timmy's by a mile! Loooooved the soups & biscuits! Donuts were great and you could mix/match donuts/muffins by the 1/2 and full dozen. This will be a REGULAR stop for me from here on out! The only thing I didn't like - really weird small cookies for kids that were almost $4! Just didn't make sense but no biggie. Staff were friendly on both of our visits :-) Kids' meals come with a pinwheel - love it! Looking forward to the next road trip stop at Donut Mill! read more

The route between Calgary and Edmonton can be a monotonous one, and I was tipped off that the Donut Mill is how the locals recommend breaking up the trip. Located in the romantically named "Gasoline Alley", the Mill can be identified by the windmill-shaped sign, amidst the other fast food chains and budget motels. We visited at midday on a weekday and alas the voluminous donut cabinet was not fully-stocked. Cake-style donuts are my preference, and there didn't seem to be many of those available. I opted for a coconut cream-filled variety, to go along with my chicken noodle soup and a biscuit, because if you're going to carb, you may as well carb to the fullest. The soup was institutional and salty, and the plastic-wrapped biscuit was sweet and somewhat dry. My friend enjoyed the fresh veggie sandwich more, and would recommend it if eating there again. Alas the donut itself was also dry and extremely sweet. I thought that coconut cream would promise some sort of special filling, perhaps something custardy, but it was just a generic sugary white cream, encased in dry pastry. Given the number of varieties that they serve, I can imagine it would be hard to keep everything tip-top fresh, but it was a pity, given our expectations. Next time I'd skip the meal and aim to stop by when the donuts are hot off the presses... read more

Great place to drop by if in the Red Deer area! In addition to donuts, they offer soups, sandwiches & a variety of coffee based drinks (no iced coffee though!). We ordered a dozen donuts & they were soft, fresh & not overly sweet. The Donut Mill donut is reminiscent of a pancake! At $18.99 for a dozen, this is well worth it! The fillings for the Boston cream & Donut Mill special were made with fresh cream & not frosting/icing making it light and flavourful. The Vanilla Lemon contained lemon jelly & the raspberry filling in the Bismark had actual raspberries! read more

This place definitely gave off nostalgic diner/cafeteria bistro type vibes haha. Long line that moves quite quickly! Lots and lots of flavours, they have a QR code menu for the donuts that you can scan while waiting in line which I thought was great so you could decide what you wanted beforehand. Around ~$2-3 for a single donut, which isn't bad! The donuts were soft and tasted fresh but I feel like it was a bit overhyped for me! Worth a stop if you're passing by but I wouldn't make a special trip out. read more

If you want to go to doughnut heaven this is it. I'm told this is a historic location here and has been serving doughnuts for years. When you walk in the sweet smell of doughnuts hits you and your drawn to the large glass case that has all the varieties they offer. Another staple in Gasoline Alley that I've never been to until now! The Donut Mill specializes in, you guessed it, donuts but even more mind blowing is that they have soups, sandwiches and other food options that actually look appetizing. We checked them out early Sunday afternoon on the way back home. Think old school diner style and that's the Donut Mill. Everything is homemade and you can tell it's a popular spot the moment you step foot inside. Look at all dem donuts. The left side of the display had old fashioned, chocolate glaze, honey dip, apple fritters, and coconut to name a few. The right side was just as enticing with oreo, vanilla lemon, apple pie, chocolate/maple/rainbow dip, rolo. Sooo many choices. - 1/2 Dozen donuts ($7.49) - from left clockwise, we picked raspberry bismark, chocolate raspberry, apple pie, oreo, white chocolate macadamia nut and apple fritter. My buddy went with both of the raspberry donuts as he loves the filling. I had a lick and you can tell it's homemade. Apple pie and the macadamia (donut of the month) were mine. The macadamia had macadamia whipped cream inside that was so light and fluffy. Can you guess what the apple pie tasted like? Just like eating real apple pie! Last but not least were the apple fritter and oreo. I had a bite of the apple fritter and we liked that it wasn't too sweet. Everything was fresh. Definitely a solid place to grab lunch and snacks for the road! D'oh nut heaven. read more

This iconic place on Gasoline Alley is really worth a stop if you like donuts. Indeed they have a huge selection of desserts and a full menu of other food options as well. We came with a group of around 20 people and each of us got a donut. The staff were really accommodating of our desire to get a full box of that many donuts! I rather enjoyed my pumpkin pie donut: the whipped filling was delicious as was the donut itself. Our group found seating once a number of other guests in the establishments vacated their tables. It was a good place to stop for a bit. Ever since I was a child I've known of the Donut Mill but I hadn't visited until this trip in person. And it was a nice homey place. I'd definitely recommend visiting again. These are good donuts -- not fancy but good and that's why this place is the kind of place that makes Gasoline Alley a real destination. read more

Eat the chili in restaurant and get a donut to go! At least that's how I was advised to eat here. So, I listened. En route to Banff, my friends said that it was a MUST that we make a pit stop at The Donut Mill. Conveniently located right in Gasoline Alley, you won't be able to miss it thanks to their large neon windmill lights outside. I grabbed a small bowl of chili paired with a wheat bun and a chocolate glazed donut (for the road). The chili was warm, fresh and so filling. I couldn't imagine finishing a large bowl! Maybe if I was really hungry. The bun that came along with it paired quite nicely and was great for dipping. The chocolate glazed donut was soft, chocolatey, and delicious. Loved it. Great spot to fuel up on food before your long journey to the mountains. Assuming that's what your doing. read more

Donuts, soups and sandwiches. That's it. Nothing fancy but I think that's why people like it. It's along the same lines as Tim Horton's but has a homemade feel. OMG these donuts are nuts. Soft yeast donuts filled with incredible gooey goodness. Of coarse if you don't like a filling they also have an assortment of nonfilled donuts but with all the options for filling available I think you'll be hard pressed to find one that doesn't tickle your fancy. Even though I just had lunch I had to sample the Oreo cream filled donut. The filling was light and fluffy and oh so good. Okay, there is a lot of fan fair about this place. And since this is a natural stop between Edmonton and Calgary, I have been here a handful of times. Saying that, I don't get the hype. Each time here I find the donuts too sweet and two dry. They do have many flavours, but to met that doesn't matter if they don't taste fresh. We have been here at different times of the day, and each time I was disappointed. However, my kids loved them. To be fair, besides beverages I haven't had any of their other food items.
