(I always seem to forget my growler) Siding 14 located in Ponoka, AB which is about 5-6 minutes off Highway 2 to the east. Before the town of Ponoka was named, it was Siding 14 of the Calgary-Edmonton Railway Company. The name of the brewery celebrates Alberta railway heritage. So cool! I stopped in to do some tasting and fill my growler. If you forget your growler, they sell not only growlers but they also have howlers which are a scaled down versions of a growler. They have cans kept in a cooler if you looking to buy cold beer. You can also have a pint of your favorite beer on tap if that is more your style. The ingredients are locally grown and sourced. Siding 14 is proud to talk about our their beer's journey from Field to Glass. The tasting room is large, and well decorated. The staff was very friendly and inviting. One of the ladies had just started and didn't have a whole ton of product knowledge, but the other employee did, and all my questions were answered. I did a flight taster and picked 4 different brews to try. All were very good. My absolute favorite taster was the Southern Express: Taking Your Minutes, which was a coffee infused stout. Such a good combination! I ended up with a growler of Pullman Pale Ale. A nice easy drinking pale ale. If passing by on highway 2, I highly recommend stopping in at Siding 14 Brewing. The beer is delicious and the people are awesome!

Then goes into the types of Malts and hops they use. This precision to detail shows the quality you can expect from this business. After a few samples of their beers all I can say is road trip to Ponoka is a must this year.

Finally made it happen on a Saturday morning trip out to Red Deer. If you haven't heard of Wild Brewing, they specialize in kombucha. 6 flavours on tap and nitro coffee from Blackbird Cold Brew (from Calgary). In case you've been living under a rock and don't know what kombucha is, it has many, many health benefits! Tasty too. The inside is small but they do have one small table for two and a picnic table outside to sit at. Love the garage sliding door and the cargo bike! The branding/logo is on point. Slick, sharp minimalistic design. Since it was our first time, we wanted to sample all their options. A couple other people that dropped in were getting their growlers replenished. Their prices are pretty reasonable and in line with other kombucha places I've visited recently. $5.00 for a 12oz cup and $10.00 to fill a growler (1L). - Flight ($5.25 for 6) - they don't have anything fancy for their flights but we ain't too picky. They come in cute 50ml sized beakers. Takes me back to chemistry class. I thought all of the flavours were great but Breezy and I mutually agreed our favourite was the peach ginger. Blueberry mint was a close second. Love it! Hope Wild Brewing continues to expand to (you can get refills at Town Square Brewing Co in Edmonton, Raw Eatery & Market in Calgary and Float Now in Saskatoon to name a few). Finally a reason to stop in Red Deer.

This is definitely one of my favourite breweries. I go camping near here. My favourite beer they…read morehave is the Sawyer Hopped Mead. A description of it would be: The honey is prominent in flavour but not in sweetness as we are bound and determined to break the assumption that honey drinks have to be sweet! Our hop combination is strategically added to the batch so as to not make it taste like an IPA beer but more of a floral, hoppy accent to the traditional mead. Some information about this unknown, quiet but yet popular brewery in a small town is: Located in Clearwater County, near Caroline, Alberta, Tamarack Jack's Honey and Meadery buzzes with activity and excitement. Our bees work endlessly to make the honey that gave us our start. You see, at the meadery, we use our very own raw honey that comes from the various wildflowers and plant species that surround us. Fortunately, we are not located near any canola or other harmful, pesticide sprayed fields, so our bees are safe and our honey is extraordinary. As humble farmers, we live for serving the great people of Alberta only the best. That is what you can expect when you try our mead. Made from all Canadian ingredients, our mead is light, refreshing and different! We put a new world spin on an ancient recipe that will be sure to leave you wanting more. The process to get our Class E Cottage Winery, Class D General Off Sales and Class B Tourist Facility Licences, was a long, hard journey but worth it! Having been open only since August of 2017, Tamarack Jack's friends and family have been working tirelessly to provide our fellow Albertans with a product that we are passionate about and truly believe in." Who is Tamarack Jack? Tamarack Jack's Honey and Meadery is situated in a location surrounded by tamarack trees and willow. Imagine: a tall rugged man trudging through a tamarack forest with axe slung over his shoulder, dragging behind him an antique crosscut saw. Weary after a long day of logging, he slumps into his chair. With muddy overalls rolled up over his boots and blisters inside the palms of his hand he reaches for something cold to soothe the pain. Of course, after a hard day, what does one require the most to lift their spirits? A nice cold drink. Tamarack Jack reaches into the icebox and grabs his first bottle of Buzzsaw, knowing that the cool sip of his fermented honey drink will wash away the days burdens. Of course the work would be unbearable without the help of a dedicated team! Not only that, but Buzzsaw tastes better when shared with friends and family. http://tamarackjacks.com

Plus a place that does Beer and Coffee in the same name caught our curiosity. Cute place, easy to find with outside curb appeal had us walking right in ready to sit and get it done. When you come in, if you're eating, they hand you menus and you seat yourselves. There is a combination of Hightop and Regular height Tables. If you are just grabbing Coffee, Beer, Baked Goods, etc To Go, just head to the Counter. I kept it pretty simple with their Citrus Beer which was nice and light with no aftertaste. Perfect surprise for me during daytime, especially since I generally drink darker Beers like Porters. I had the DW Smash Burger Special for Lunch and it was just great! The Burger was huge with two beautifully seared Patties, nice and crispy around the edges, but the inner parts still juicy with two Cheese Slices, very Cool & Crisp Lettuce, a hefty Tomato Slice, nice Caramelized Onions, and their Condiment Sauce, which I could quite figure out everything in it. Basically, the Burger was a solid choice I would have again if coming back this way. Absolutely, no dissatisfaction. My friend is a bit more of a picky eater and I really appreciate the Staff being able to accommodate her with what turn out to be a really good Grilled Cheese. Made on Rye with Fried Egg, Gouda & Chedder cheeses, this looked amazing when it came to the Table with a side of Slaw. I got to try a bite and WOW...I would have been happy with that too. To sum this up, Beer...Good, Food...Really Good, Service... Outstanding
