When i visited the Philippines in 2014, my cousins told me we HAD to go this secret place. It's so secret, you probably wont know its there unless you knew exactly where you were going or heard of it. In order to find it there is a secret door with a small sign with braille. You must knock on the door in order to get in. There is a little slot for the security to check you out .(Think "Who Framed Roger Rabbit") It is better if you make reservations, but walk-ins are welcomed. When you walk inside it is lightly dimmed with only candles lighting your table. The atmosphere makes you feel you're not even in Manila. The food, drinks and service were very top notch (considering its Manila). You can sit with your group or even invite other people to join yours or you join theirs. I recommend going here if you want to have a taste of Secret Manila High life. Or just grab some top shelf cocktails with a hot date. read more

The first rule about Blind Pig is that you never talk about Blind Pig. So, this review may possibly be illegal, but whatever. Blind Pig is the most hidden spot in the heart of Makati. It is a speakeasy, with some of the best (expensive) drinks you'll find in the city. And when they say speakeasy, they mean speak easy. You cannot make sounds beyond whispering. That may be an exaggeration, but you wouldn't want to disrupt the peace and be the only loudmouth there. On the other hand, it is a perfect place for intimate conversation, with its dim lighting, exclusivity, and low-decibel rules. In other words, perfect for dates. But, practice speaking in your lower register. Like I said, the drinks are expensive, but you can be sure that they are quality beverages. Tip: The bar is hard to find; the only sign they have is in Braille, so you'll have a lot better luck asking someone where it is when you get close. This place made me feel like I was transported back in time to the great era of the 134 Eldridge of Milk & Honey/ New York City. With the thrill of locating the discrete door, being greeted with a well educated staff, and being served a cocktail crafted based on the palate of the guest...it's an experience. The bar is hidden and after locating the braille, knock loudly on the door and hope someone comes to the door to let you in. We went on a Monday night as a group of 4 almost 30 minutes before closing. The staff was accommodating and let us take our time choosing our cocktails and even put in an order of food. As unorthodox as it may be to serve food so late at a speakeasy, I REALLY liked that we could order food with our drinks. The bartender was friendly and as form follows function, he was present but also allowed my friends and I catch up. I believe the beauty of a great tasting drink is the person crafting them and the Blind Pig staff was excellent. We had Philip who was fairly new to the staff but I admired his patience and candor. If we had gotten there earlier, we may have stayed all night but alas, the night has to come to end sometime. One thing the staff did mention was that they pour 2oz in every drink as opposed to other neighboring cocktail bars with 1oz; so in theory it's not that expensive and well worth it. I can see how this place is a hit and why local celebrities would like to occupy the dark/dimly lit space. I am a fan and will definitely recommend this diamond in the rough. oooook, before I came to the Philippines, I was told that it was a service centered country. Customer service is everything here and I totally believed it and then I came here. The ONE AND ONLY REASON why Blind Pig gets an extra star is because my boyfriend told me about how awesome his experience was here and how amazing it was so I know that when he brought me, it was totally a fluke. We were escorted in and informed of the rules, which are on the back of the menu, and then after that we never saw her again. As someone who works in customer service, I know that there are certain signs that could be miscommunicated such as, us still looking at the menu could possibly signal our waitress that we weren't ready for her yet. We made sure that we looked bored and most definitely ready for her, but the kicker was when she made eye contact with my boyfriend and STILL walked past us like we were invisible. We even gave her the benefit of the doubt that she was super busy so we still gave her five minutes to even come up to us and tell us that she'd help us in a minute. Nope, nothing at all. We ended up leaving and wound up at The Exit Bar and then culminated our night at The Curator. Both places were amazing and highly recommended. Go there instead. read more

I've always been in love with pubs, moreso speakeasies like Blind Pig. Well, technically it isn't a speakeasy anymore since almost everyone I know knows this place. I still like how they do their business - they ask what are you feeling on the night of your visit, then they'll suggest a drink. They know their shit, I just had the best amaretto sour - the classic recipe at that - ever in my life so far. Step 5. Mention how the Miles Davis song playing in the bar is your favorite (The actual song doesn't have to be from Miles Davis, but she'll never know if you're confident enough.) Step 6. Order some grub with your drinks. I suggest the popcorn. It's pretty yummy. Tell her how having popcorn with her feels like you're watching Casablanca. Step 7. Call the waitress and order another drink. This time make a custom one. Just name drop some fancy sounding liquors and single malt whiskeys. The Blind Pig is a dimly-lit, quirky & well-stocked speakeasy style bar tucked away behind a discreet "buzz me in" entrance, a thick velvet curtain, within a non-descript Legaspi Village condo building. You can converse here in a 6 person booth, romantically lit with interesting curios from days gone by to spark a topic; you might hear Ella on the sound system, you might choose from the short but tasty snack selection, you might just want to get your waiter to serve you strong liquids and laugh at your jokes. You'll usually need to reserve a booth ahead of time, they remain very strict on both reservation, time keeping and their house rules, so keep the noise down, don't harass your neighbouring booth, and just enjoy. So bummed, as I was looking forward to a wonderful experience based on the reviews. Kind of like a cheap knockoff of real speakeasies I've been to during my travels. Female host was rude, did not even say a single word to us as she gave us menus. Passed us repeatedly without any communication. It got so bad my group thought it was a joke. I was stunned because it was so intimate and quiet inside, how could the server be this "busy" - after my group talked to each other and caught up on our first story we noticed no one still had greeted us, we then made bets to see how long it would take for someone to take our orders. Finally, when it stopped getting funny, we gave a three strike rule. After the server passed us an additional three times without addressing us, we decided to leave disappointed. In very busy places it is super understandable when a server or hostess has no time to communicate. But in a place with only three or four people inside, it's almost unforgivable. You could hear a pin drop inside, how could she be this oblivious to our needs? This place is a joke. I certainly hope it improves the next time I'm invited to check this place out. If you are looking for a much funner louder and less "stick up your ass" attitude, definitely go to the Exit Bar down the street. Sometimes the brats would just get into that kind of mood that leaves us yearning for a dark place - and I do not mean that secret crevice inside the mind where we keep the emo children in us locked up. I am referring to a literal place reminiscent of the speakeasies of yore. This is Blind Pig, one of those supposedly secret bars tucked inside the Central Business District; honestly, most of my circle had already known about it way before we all saw each other there. Complete with well-curated Jazz music, spiffy interiors, proficient waiters, and a proper bartender, they serve top-shelf liquor and fix drinks just the way real gentlemen are supposed to have them. Some like the Smokey Old Bastard, or the good selection of Scotch simply taken on the rocks. Me, as early as my first visit a few years back, the bartender has surmised that I would fancy the Gordon's Cup, an item off the menu. To this day, friends still find it amusing that it looks like I am sipping a salad off a Scotch glass. (The cocktail has slices of cucumber in it.) I have been getting that same thing ever since, and amazingly, it only takes three for me to get the night's fix. Because this is not the place to rouse a drunken frenzy. Maybe it's the candlelight or the etched silver panels on the wall or the hushed voices but there is something about its inherent intimacy that brings out the deeper stuff that usually gets drowned out in the other usual watering holes. Their unremarkable door, which could be impossible to find for those who've never been there before, belies a vibrant scene inside. The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly, and its one of the few places where you can ask for a certain taste and the man behind the mixers makes a custom drink for you. The prices are a tad high for Manila--anywhere between P500-P1200--but they are usually worth it unless you come up with a terrible request. The calmness of the bar may not be for everyone, but it's the perfect place to discuss philosophy, jazz, French cinema, or fart jokes. read more

This place begs to be found by introduction only; it seems that only people who have previously been here can bring new people in. Behind a very inconspicuous door lies a seemingly regular bar where people drink and talk, and then drink some more. What you'll notice is that as soon as you sit down, you will definitely feel a sense of class and ostentation. The price tag that comes with the drinks are quite high for any Manila resident, but they are oh-so-good. The environment of the whole place just inspires the pretentious side in you to talk about philosophy, classical music and the latest artwork of Snooty Von Stuckup.
