Sunrise Buckets is known for their wings and the "beach vibe" decor. I read that the owners (who…read moreare sisters) were inspired by their travels abroad (and wing addiction!) to put up their own restaurant. The place is the cozy, laid-back with walls covered in beach photos & actual surfboards. The only thing missing is the chill-out or beach house tunes to go with your meal. For first timers, I suggest you order their half pound wings (4-5 pieces) so that you can try more than one flavor. The prices will vary to the flavors you choose. Of couse, you should try their Sunrise Original (Php175, 3.82USD for half pound). If you like it super spicy, go try their Ultimate Crazy Hot (Php245, 5.35USD for half pound). The most popular flavor is the Jack Daniels (Php245, 5.35USD for half pound)! Just imagine crispy wings with the sweetness of Jack Daniel's whiskey. Yum! :D I recommend the Black Peppered (Php175, 3.82USD for half pound) and the Smokin' BBQ (Php165, 3.60USD for half pound). Oh, they also have a wide selection of beers! Head on over with your friends for a chill hang out :)

I like the mild New York Buffalo wings because it's got the right amount of heat and is great when tipped in sour cream. The Jack Daniel's and Hot n' Sticky.Maple are also great options of you're looking for something a little sweet. You can wash those wings down with a selection of different beers, or try their peach house blend iced tea. They've also got some seriously thick milkshakes for the days when you decide to throw your diet out the window. Found on the ground floor of a small commercial center called Madison Place, parking can be difficult so either come early to grab a slot, prepare to wait or order to take your wings home. I like the beach-y vibe of the place, they've got surfing paraphernalia all over the walls and their TVs are almost always showing surfers and gorgeous beaches around the world.

Walking in on a Saturday night, I half-expected that familiar college-town hum--a low murmur of conversation, sticky tables, and the faint smell of fried dreams. Instead, the place was eerily quiet, like the party wrapped up long before I got the memo. I went for the classics--half a dozen of their Signature Buffalo Spicy and half a dozen Salted Egg Bone-In Wings, with blue cheese sauce riding shotgun. A side of rice (because it's Manila--of course there's rice) and mashed potatoes that... well, we'll get to those in a second. The beer--a cold Honey Ale from a local craft brewer--was the unsung hero of the night. Finally, someone in Manila brewing something that didn't taste like regret and melted ice. The wings? Definitely not bad. Crispy, juicy--like they actually respected the bird. But if you're going to throw your name in the ring for best wings in town, you need to bring more than just competence. The Salted Egg seasoning--Southeast Asia's current golden child--was a heavy, clumsy affair. It coated every inch of the wing like a thick winter jacket. No chili kick, no garlic bite--just a flat, salty blanket that had me checking my pulse halfway through. The Buffalo sauce, their so-called signature, leaned way too sweet--more candied ketchup than the tangy, spicy, vinegary slap you want from proper Buffalo wings. And then there was the blue cheese sauce--if you could even call it that. The kind of stuff that comes squeezed out of a sad little plastic packet, shelf-stable for the next nuclear winter. You know the one--overly loose, weirdly tangy, with about as much real blue cheese as a 7-Eleven hot dog. A sauce like that isn't just disappointing--it's disrespectful. The mashed potatoes were some kind of crime against carbs. Lumpy, under-seasoned, with a pale, plasticky cheese blanket on top that made me wonder what the poor spuds did to deserve this fate. The rice, surprisingly, became the unsung palate cleanser--cutting through the heaviness and giving the meal at least some rhythm. Service was the kind that leaves you alone--sometimes a little too alone. You had to flag someone down like you were hailing a cab in the rain. Look--Frankie's isn't a bad joint. If you're already three beers deep and need something fried to keep you vertical, they'll do the job. But for an avid wing eater--someone who's chased those little fried miracles across NYC--this was just another forgettable night. And when it comes to wings, forgettable is the worst sin of all.

As juicy as a water soaked Amazon box. The classic Buffalo wings were mediocre at best. Underwhelming flavor and I'm being nice and generous in stating "flavor". This was a while ago, and so many other restaurants around it have come and gone, but it has proven to have what it takes to be yet another Katipunan institution. Being students, clearly we worked around a tight budget. Flaming Wings always did the trick for us, because you got more than what your money would normally get you. A favorite, for example, is their Chicken Tenders Meal, which includes strips of buffalo chicken tenders (your choice of Original, Mind n' Sweet, Smokey BBQ, Wild, Caribbean Jerk, or Oriental Zing -- I always go for Original), dip (your choice of Bleu Cheese, Wasabi Mayo, Balsamic Mayo, Ranch, Honey Mustard, or Aioli -- I always get Bleu Cheese), a cup of rice, and a drink (your choice: iced tea, lemonade, or bottled water). All for P130. It used to be cheaper, but I'm not complaining about its present price. Here's a tip: Ask your server for some of the sauce (not dip) on the side. There's a little extra cost, but if you love sour buffalo wings sauces like I do, it is such a thrill. A cheap thrill, but a thrill. Their chicken aside, a Super-Stuffed Pork Chop, which goes for only P190, is also a worthy meal... or an adversary, depending on your appetite. The serving is as big as the plate, which leaves little room for movement, but so much bang for your buck.

Though I don't really come back for their wings, I come back for their wicked oreos. I fell in love with it even though I really don't eat oreos (yes, please feel free to judge). The only thing that I don't like is that Katipunan is so jam-packed and its not easy to find a parking slot so better come in earlier preferably on weekends to avoid the hassle.

For those who are not familiar where WingMan is located, it's at The Collective (a commercial space where hipsters unite!) near Grepa Life building in Makati. As the restaurant name suggests, their main offering are... tadah - chicken wings in different flavors! Like any other wings place, they offer it in 1/2 dozen of 1 dozen with one order between 180 - 300. You can also combine different flavors of wings if you decide to get 1 dozen. We tried their Garlic Parmesan and Hickory Barbeque since both of us are not fans of spicy wings. The size of their wings is average, I've had other wings bigger than the one from WingMan though their flavor was pretty impressive. Aside from Chicken Wings, they also have healthy meals such as salads in their menu and also offers a wide selection of burgers. My boyfriend tried their Cowboy Burger, which was their Texas-inspired sandwich with BBQ sauce, bacon and caramelized onions with fries to go with. I got to take a bite out of this burger and found it especially good! I've always been a fan of anything with BBQ on it so I was happy to find that theirs measured up to my BBQ standards. They also have local and imported beers that perfectly complement your chicken wings. They also have cocktails for the ladies. One drawback of this place is that it's quite small (around 40 people can fit in) and parking is a big issue.

As it was the one flavor that took the restaurant's name as its title, the Frankie's classic was definitely the better order of the two. Everything I've been hearing about the place was right; this might be the best Buffalo wings place in the city! Going further, some places would inevitably prepare the dish better than most. To me, this is Frankie's New York Buffalo Wings. I usually head to Frankie's after a night run. This could get as late as midnight. The place is open until 2 am, and by this time the horrible parking situation at the City Golf Compound would already be more manageable. (Of course, provided it's a not a weekend.) I always get the Classic Buffalo (spicy) with blue cheese dip, and ask for more blue cheese dips. (They charge extra). I like the chicken because of the way the skin has been cooked to a crisp, all the while keeping the meat rather tender; I think it's breaded. The sauce is spicy yet with just the right bite, meaning there is a dimension to the flavor and not just plain crazy-fiery. Like, I can still taste the butter and the vinegar all coming nicely together with the one-two punch of the hot sauce. Oh-yeah! The best part is you don't even have to worry about getting your hands dirty because they give away disposable gloves. To be honest, I don't really use it since I am used to working with utensils in dissecting my chicken, but I just think it's rather thoughtful of them. As my personal motto goes: it's the useless stuff that builds character.

They serve various meal items for chicken wings at a cheap price (at least cheaper than the competition), and somehow I like their version just a bit better. I always go for the spicy option, and I wasn't disappointed at all. It's hot enough to want an extra serving of rice, but not anywhere near tongue-burning sensation. If given the choice to choose between the two, I think Chicken Charlie offers a better flavor and price range than its competition. Also, they have Dynamite Jalapeños - hands-down winner for me!

If you complete all the flavors on the card, you get a P1,000 GC! Promo period is from May 23 - August 31, 2016. Too bad they don't deliver. They do have order pick-up, so next time I can just drive over and pick up my wings, or hang out there first, read a book. Gotta take advantage of the free parking at Circuit Makati while you can! The 11-pc Batter-Fried Wings is P395, but because of the promo, we were actually getting 14 pcs! That's P28/pc. It's a mix of the drumette, and the wingette + tip. We got the Lemon Pepper, Louisiana Rub, Honey Garlic and Teriyaki this time. Then after that, I also had some Wingstop again and tried the Garlic Parmesan and Mild Buffalo. To me, the dry rubs (Lemon Pepper, Louisiana Rub and Garlic Parmesan) are the best flavors I have tried from Wingstop, Garlic Parmesan being the one I liked best, and will probably be the ones I will keep on ordering. I didn't really like the Teriyaki - the molasses and some kind of lime flavor was too strong. I expected the Teriyaki to taste like sweet ginger soy syrup, so the molasses flavor threw me off. As for the Honey Garlic, I expected it to taste like honey and fried garlic, and was disappointed by the addition of the soy sauce component. It was milder, but still similar to the Teriyaki. The Mild Buffalo was just a mild hot sauce coated chicken, no ranch or blue cheese dressing included (must be bought separately). I was expecting a buttery, garlicky, sweet and hot sauced chicken wing. Flavor-wise, I think I like the flavor profile of Frankie's Wings much better. This is not to say that Wingstop's chicken is not good. The chicken wings were crispy and juicy. Unfortunately, I just did not like the sauces I tried, and it's a personal preference. Who knows, you might turn out to like them! Fortunately for me, there are more flavors for me to try. The promo is a big incentive for me to go back and try the other flavors. The restaurant is clean, everything is still new. Air-conditioning is cold, always a plus. They have a sink where customers can wash their hands, but they also provide plastic gloves. The sink was fun, you push the front of the sink with your knee to turn on the faucet.
