I'm super disappointed that I have write a review update for Blind Magic, but the warranty service we have received on our blinds has been so sub-par. One of the Hunter Douglas blinds installed by Blind Magic is a heavy blind, and we were upsold on an upgraded lift system during the purchase process to ensure that it worked properly (I wish we hadn't done this, because we don't even like using the lift system). After 6 months the lift system on the blind broke, and while we could turn the horizontal slats, we could no longer lift or lower the blind. I called Blind Magic in February, and they picked up the blind for repair a few days into March. Six weeks later the installer returned with our blind, and it was a mess. The wooden handle that controls the lift system was so severely damaged and chipped we refused to accept delivery. We tested out the blind and after one lift/lower, there was a large crack and the whole blind unraveled, with the lift system more broken than before. What the heck? They sent back a broken and damaged blind? Great.
Following this the blind was sent to the Hunter Douglas factory in Ontario. I called the shop and asked for an update after a couple of weeks, and they promised to return my call after talking to the factory, but no one got back to me. Fast forward to middle of May and I get a cell phone call from the installer while I'm at work saying that he was at my house to install the blind and no one was there. An install was scheduled, but no one called to tell us, so I had to call the shop and reschedule another time (more waiting and poor communication). When the blind was finally brought back, the lift system worked, but the damaged wand was still on the blind. Again, so frustrating, as I called the shop to specifically make sure a new wand was ordered, and it wasn't, and no one at the shop checked the repair notes/order before sending the blind out to my house.
Our guest bedroom was without a window covering for nearly three full months, preventing us from having overnight guests, and I'm totally fed up with the customer service Blind Magic has provided. At this point, ordering a new blind would have been faster and easier. I am fearful of any of our other blinds developing problems, as this whole experience has been so drawn out and frustrating. I am also worried that the upgraded lift system doesn't actually work for this blind and it is going to keep breaking throughout the lifetime of the product. Hopefully the blind that was reinstalled will work properly now, but I'm feeling fairly discouraged by this process. I was really sold on the warranty service for Hunter Douglas blinds and Blind Magic when I purchased, but after these problems I can't recommend this business any more. It's clear that they do not do any quality control check of the products that come back from repair, leaving the customer with the extra burden of repeat visits and requests to have repairs done properly. read more
