Being from out of state, I specifically sought out a BBQ joint to fulfill my midwestern barbecue craving before flying out. I was pleasantly surprised to come across Blind Box, which offered a quick and casual experience which such friendly service from the cashier. It is located within a bigger furniture store, yet conveniently located near the entrance with open seating. I ordered the Podium Platter which was prime beef burnt ends and brisket, along with a side which we chose the cheesy corn bake. Absolutely delicious and all were so tender. The brisket was easily pulled apart and the brisket was just melt in your mouth. The cost of the plate was reasonable at $15, and was enough to share between me and my partner. I ordered the three rib plate, which include included burnt ends, and smoked sausage. I also had mac & cheese and a cornbread muffin as a side. The ribs were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The burnt ends had a good smoke flavor and we're very tender, but we're cold. The sausage was also a bit cold. The mac & cheese was cold and so the consistency was gummy. Blind Box was decent. The cashier was very patient with our indecisive children, which we appreciated. Seating was plentiful and food came out fast. That said, food quality was mixed. We ordered one of the sampler platters (Heavyweight Plate), with ribs, burnt ends, and a bunch of sides. The meat came out warm, but not hot, which is a no-no for me. The baked beans were too sweet. I give them major props for being a local restaurant at The Legends. In my experience, this area is typically overrun by chains and drive-thrus, so I was happy to stumble on this place, attached to NFM. That being said, it didn't all come together as hoped. We were a bit early to the dinner rush with our kids, and the place was empty with some muted TVs hovering around the atmosphere. We started with onion straws which was probably the best thing I had that night. Perfectly seasoned and lightly fried. I got the "Lightweight Platter" with two proteins and since ribs weren't an option, went brisket and chicken. Both were so dry they looked like Thanksgiving turkey once the Christmas lights are up. The edges were especially dry, to the point where I had trouble eating it. The flavor of the brisket was good, the chicken was not full of the smoky flavor one would hope for. To be perfectly honest, this felt like when I get BBQ well outside of Kansas City, not holding up against any of the classics or heavy hitters. My kids chicken tenders were surprisingly delicious (and moist), and made for nice leftovers too. So that was a plus. This ended up being our priciest meal of our little staycation, and unfortunately, one of the most forgettable. We visited Blind Box BBQ at Village West inside Nebraska Furniture Mart on 07-26-2026 about 11:02 am. Actual arrival time was 10:00 am as the website (https://blindboxbbq.com/locations/village-west/) says that on Sundays it is open at 9:00 am, so we planned to eat early and enjoy the day. However, upon arrival, the door said it opens at 11:00 am. The security officer in the parking lot said that, yes, he has had many people say the website said 9:00 am, it needs to be fixed. So, just be aware that the website may indicate 9:00 am but the actual open time, at least at this time, is 11:00 am. Hopefully the caring people at Blind Box BBQ can get that fixed. The easiest entry is at the left side of the front of Nebraska Furniture Mart since Blind Box BBQ is located just inside the doors there. However, whatever entrance to NFM you take, you can easily get to Blind Box BBQ from inside NFM. If all else fails, follow your nose. In order to make use of the time we walked over to the nearby Sporting Kansas City professional soccer stadium, as well as the Kansas Speedway NASCAR stadium. Since we had a guest with us from Colombia this was an opportunity for us to enjoy our meals as well as get his take on things. I got the Full Rack of St Louis Style Spare Ribs which comes with two sides ($33). My selections were broccoli and sweet potato fries. The ribs were very good though a bit fatty compared to the last time we got them here, that could have been because we were here at opening today. The flavor was delicious. The sweet potato fries were nice and fresh, very good taste, and the broccoli was nicely steamed and had a little parmesan cheese and garlic on top. They were both very good. My entire meal was good though, as previously noted (another date) they do provide plastic ware to use for eating but they are not sturdy so you may want to bring some flatware or silverware from home if you usually need them for you ribs or chicken. My wife got the half chicken which comes with two sides ($18). Her selections were broccoli and sweet potato fries. She also described her choices as very good, delicious and happy she ordered it again. Our guest wanted to order the Full Rack of Baby Back Ribs that comes with two sides ($33) but the friendly lady at the counter apologized and said they do not have the Baby Rack Ribs at the Village West location. So he got the Full Rack of St Louis Style Spare Ribs and, for his two sides, selected sweet potato fries and the bourbon baked beans. He stated that his ribs were slightly fatty but had very good flavor. He noted that it was not a hickory smoke flavor to the meat (we told him he is becoming a good analyst on BBQ!). His fries were perfect and he enjoyed the baked beans. For soft drinks ($3.00) I got Diet Dr Pepper, my wife got water (free), and our guest got Big Red ($3.00). He mentioned he had never heard of or seen Big Red before and we told hm it is not easy to find, especially on a fountain. He enjoyed it very much. The soft drinks were brixed properly. Soft Drinks are self serve and free refills. Lids are provided for the cups. The total bill for everything was $118.14. Tipping is optional, there is a tip jar on the counter and the credit card machine has optional tipping there. After placing our order at the counter we took our number and got our table. The tables and floor were clean. Napkins, straws, and sauces are at the counter near the soft drinks, self serve, and plenty. Men's and Women's restrooms are available very convenient to the restaurant. If you have food left to take home, they have nice take home containers readily available as well as sturdy plastic bags to carry them in. All of the employees we encountered, from the lady taking our orders, to the lady who brought the food to our table, and the lady who was helping to expedite, everyone we met and saw were friendly, attentive, and caring. They had no name tags so we cannot compliment them here specifically. Parking ws easy and plentiful, especially if you arrive close to opening time. Plenty of handicapped parking is available. We did note, though, that the lot closest to the restaurant was completely full when we left though there were spaces available farther away, about a half mile, but that should be expected. read more

We found the Blind box / Pressed pig on accident. There was a really long line at another coffee shop, and we looking for another coffee shop that was close by. The Pressed pig came up on yelp. As we started to drive toward it, we realized that they are located inside of the Nebraska mart, what a hidden treat!! My husband and I both got hot coffees. I technically did the dirty Chai, that it has Chai tea with espresso and my husband got a turtle coffee. My husband also got a cinnamon roll and my daughter got a chocolate croissant. The prices are competitive with other "fancy" coffee shops but I will tell you that the Chai with espresso was one of the best I had ever had. It was flavorful and it was smooth, it didn't taste bitter at all. My husband and daughter loved their pastries, plus there was no line!! So next time we are looking for coffee, I definitely believe this will become our new spot when we're close to the legends. Oh and my husband wants to come back and try the BBQ. read more

In Kansas City for a short visit and had to have bbq. Never have been here before but trusted reviews on Yelp. And it did not disappoint!! Get the bbq nachos. Just do it! Its layers of fixin's - not fixin's all dumped on top. The bottom nacho had bbq and ooey gooey stuff just like the top nacho. The pico gave it a hint of heat and the sweet corn was the connector between the meat and queso. This is heartbreaking for me to write, I love BBQ, and my husband and I were very tired and hungry from a day of shopping. The brisket sandwich meat is not well trimmed at all. I would estimate that 1/2 of it was untended fat. The meat was extremely tough, and I was able to see veins/arteries in between the layers of the brisket. Was it brisket?? Hmmm. Now for some tough love and keep reading for some positive things: The fries were average. Yes, they were hot and made fresh! Drinks are Pepsi fountain whee you serve yourself. The water fountain tastes like pinesol and bleach. It was very stinky, and sadly I didn't taste it before I offered a cup to my service dog. He was hot and tired, I will bring his bottle in next time. He only sniffed the water. I should have known at that point. The staff bring your sandwiches to your table, and you have to juggle your drink cups, and condiments, along with extra napkins, sometimes it's just overwhelming to carry too many things. The combo sandwich with beef and ham was terrible. The ham looked like deli meat thick slices and they were tremendously salty. To the restaurant: if you are buying this instead of making it yourself, you should stop!!! Fine tune your own. The Mac and cheese was fantastic! Very rich, but fantastic. We left 2 whole sandwiches, 2 plates of fries and ate 1/2 the Mac and cheese. If you like the food, great! But I will be saving my money next time! read more

That part is pretty cool. I'm focusing my review on the restaurant itself. It's a partial service place, in other words you go up to the counter, place your order, and they bring the food to you. After, I most people clearing their trash away. The employees are for the most part really friendly and helpful (one girl did look like she was just having a bad day). I just couldn't get over the food. Their BBQ is really sweet. I ordered the half chicken dinner (comes with 2 sides). FPO had the burnt ends dinner. I guess the burnt ends were pretty good, the coleslaw was nothing special. My chicken was really dry. My smoked potato salad was okay but I think it had bacon in it (something that really should be mentioned). The onion strings were super salty. As was the fried pickles appetizer. Absolutely delicious! First off, I normally don't name employees but Jonathan was exceptional. He was upbeat when he greeted me, then when I didn't know what to order, he was able to quickly give me several options off the top of his head. He also came by later to ensure my food was good. It's always refreshing to see people who actually care about their job, the food they are giving the customer, and the company. The BBQ nachos were SO GOOD!!! They make their own white cheese sauce which was great on the loaded chips, and it was the perfect combo of ingredients. We ordered burnt end nachos and a side of fries. Well that excitement I had quickly dissipated when the food came out. Beware, the French fries are nothing like the fresh cut looking fries in most of the Yelp photos. I assume they used to serve fresh cut fries and now they've changed to mediocre frozen fries. The fries were fresh and hot but not worth ordering...very disappointing. Then, the nachos tasted very good...the corn salsa and queso were a nice spin BUT the chip to topping ratio was waaaaaaay off. There were about 50 chips and only enough toppings for 10 of those chips. Felt cheated! The weirdest of them all was the BBQ sauce. We couldn't even begin to articulate why they were weird. The flavor was really different. I definitely would bring my own BBQ if we tried them again. I mean, I guess Blind Box BBQ is cool considering it's inside of a furniture store. We picked up carry out yesterday and then had to find other options to eat for the evening. The burnt ends were completely inedible. They were dry and hard. Chicken was dry. Brisket was dry. It was just bad food. I'm not even sure that my dogs enjoyed it. Also, when you order chicken it would be nice to get a piece of chicken with skin and all not sliced chicken. I have always thought that Blind Box is rather unheralded and underrated in KC BBQ. I definitely think of it as a Top 25 BBQ spot (and I've been to over 70) in the city. So when it opened up a 2nd location inside NFM, I was nervous. A lot of BBQ restaurants have trouble maintaining quality standards, especially when they open satellites in shopping centers. Luckily, that's not the case. The food is fantastic. The heated BBQ pump is always fantastic. They have some top-line burnt ends, good medallion-sized sausage, and THE BEST CHEESY CORN IN THE CITY. Ribs are a bit messy. Sweet potato waffle fries are great. Overall, a nice addition to Legends and a good representative of KC BBQ.
