I shop at Dick Blick in Illinois but we stopped into this big location across from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design while we were in town. All the supplies an art student (or any other artsy person) could need. I discovered a few new colors of my favorite paints, Golden Fluid Acrylics. They also have a lot of gifty items as well. Prices will vary but happily there's a range of brands to choose from for most any budget. read more

Need art supplies? THIS IS YOUR PLACE! Both of my student-children require some sort of art supplies, so this was a great trip for us. The location is decent - we were lucky to find a close parking spot (I don't know how difficult it might be other times). Walking in, it's impressive and overwhelming to a degree. SO MUCH STUFF! Their in-store prices are a little more than buying on their website, but if you shop enough, they'll match online. Get the student discount (10%) if you qualify. Paints, charcoal, pencils, markers, stamps, stickers, rulers, notepads, drawing pads, and... oh my... everything! I can't imagine they don't have what anyone would need. While I'm from Madison (but have a student in Milwaukee), I won't get here as often as I'd like - but we will make stop there when we're in town. Bank on it. Great selection of art supplies and nice selection of gift / toys. I got into painting with the pandemic and had been ordering online during the lockdown. The shipping costs are high tho and was pleased when I remembered they had a store here ( and it was open). Yes they do have arrows on the floor and a "shop with your eyes not your hands" policy but I haven't had any trouble. Staff has been helpful and friendly when. I have had questions. Located pretty much directly across from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design is the fabulous Blick Art Materials. I have been to Blick in NY but it was such a joy to visit the store in Milwaukee. They made my trip such a wonderful experience and their staff is like no other. Such a helpful, knowledge crew. I walked down every isle in leisure and I was in awe at the beautiful products that were available. I especially loved the fact that you can sample some of the products before you buy. This is such a wonderful thing to offer and I'm sure everyone loves sampling art products as they're so expensive. I left spending much more than I planned but when in Rome .. or in Milwaukee... The place seems like it is always well staffed. The supplies are organized and the prices are pretty good. Also, they do product demos that are really like workshops with no cost. I did a Plein Air color pallet workshop/demo with Lindsay. She was great, taught me about different gels that can be added and she really enjoyed her work The staff is great. They can direct you to whatever you need and if you aren't sure what supply might be useful for your project they will help you figure it out. The back right corner has the discount/clearance stuff. Currently Blick is the only place I know of where you can buy Derwent Inktense pencils individually. There is also an area of stuff that would be good for a little present. Check it out! read more

My daughter attends MIAD but we started shopping here a few years ago when she was taking summer classes. They have a wide variety of supplies and art gifts as well as have classes they teach. Some are free. Some you pay a small fee for. They have a rewards card that offers discounts as well as having a student discounts. They have a website too which makes it pretty convenient. The supplies are relatively competitively priced with other art stores. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help. read more

With the closing of the Blick on Farwell, I've moved my art supply shopping over to this Blick, and I truly wish I had done so sooner! This store has excellent costumer service -- everyone is so personable and helpful, and a wide array of art supplies for all mediums. I also enjoy the craft and gift section that they have. When this Blick didn't have something I needed, they were happy to order it for me. Employees have offered to carry heavy items to my car for me, and they always honor my student discount. Blick gives the best quality and variety for the best price. Although, I can't help but spend too much money on such a beautiful, organized, and bountiful art shop!! read more

As a previous fine arts major in college, this store is the equivalent to a candy store for me. An expensive and dangerous candy store. The MSOE students must enjoy having an art supplier below their dorms and across the street from their studio and classrooms. This place knocks the socks off the tiny little art shop i was forced to use in school. They have everything, even 4'x8'x1/2" black and white foamcore. Yes. 4'x8' as a stock item. No 5 stars for this place, as the prices are ok if you are in the workforce but expensive for college kids. read more

Lindsey and Alan both were so helpful. I love having a Blick store so close by. I love the store itself as it offers a variety of art supplies needed as a MIAD student and much more, however I have on multiple occasions had a poor experience with a member of the staff. She will openly talk rudely about customers, tail closely behind them "fixing" everything they touch, and is very impatient and curt at the register. One time, as I was going to pay with cash, she held her hand out expectantly, waving her fingers as if to say, "hand it over." As a former retail employee and a customer at your store, this is very uncomfortable for me and your staff needs to have a better attitude towards their shoppers. Like I mentioned before, I love Blick and all it has to offer, but for a better experience there, please work on you staff. read more

Pretty cool store, with just about anything you could need for your art needs.

As a semi-professional artist working mainly in oils, I'm able to find nearly all the paint, solvents, mediums, and painting supports I need at Blick MIAD. I prefer Blick Master Stroke bristle brushes (which perhaps the store stocks now) but have always had to order these from Blick online. The store, by the way, automatically matches online prices, so buy there if you can to support this wonderful bricks and mortar shop. The store also offers far far more in breadth and quality than one finds in the big box arts and crafts stores. The MIAD store manager is extremely helpful, and knowledgeable about store products. Other staff have always been helpful too, though knowledge of products and media varies as one would expect. The current store is only a few years old and rates among the larger dedicated art stores I've visited. Based on my shopping experience with oils, acrylics, and watercolor, one could expect to find the vast majority of one's art needs at Blick MIAD. If Yelp offered a 10-star rating system, I'd rate the store at nine stars. read more
