Background and Initial Service: My vehicle's transmission was rebuilt a few months ago by a different authorized ATRA shop. Due to a recent move, the original shop authorized me to bring the car to this affiliate location, a 30-mile drive from my new home, for a warranty diagnosis. Upon drop-off on 11/18/2025, the front desk employee immediately became cold and dismissive when I mentioned the words "warranty repair." The Issue & The Refusal to Diagnose: The problem is specific and reproducible: when the car is cold, driving downhill causes the transmission to shift into what feels like neutral. Pressing the gas results in rising RPMs but no movement, forcing me to shut the engine off and restart it to re-engage the drive. After two days, I received a call informing me they could not reproduce the issue and were refusing to work on the car. I explained to Miguel that the condition requires a cold start and a specific downhill coast, asking them to try again or keep the car longer. He flatly refused any further testing, stating they were done with the vehicle. Integrity Violation and Fraudulent Documentation: Since they refused to honor the warranty, I requested a written reason for the denial of service, which is standard procedure. Miguel went to review my paperwork. When he returned, he presented a form and demanded I sign it before he would provide any written explanation. This form was an explicit waiver where I would acknowledge that the issue I claimed was not present and that their testing proved my claim was false. I refused to sign a document that was contrary to reality, as the transmission issue is demonstrably still present. The Threat and Escalation: Because I refused to sign the false waiver, Miguel refused to give me any written denial and escalated the situation. He told me he wouldn't help me anymore because I was "not a nice person." When I stated I would write an accurate review of this unprofessional experience, he raised his voice and began threatening me: Threats of litigation. Explicit threats of physical harm to myself and/or my property at my home. Threats to contact my employer to have me fired. I immediately took my keys and walked to my car, with Miguel following me out of the office, continuing to curse and issue threats. This behavior is far beyond poor customer service; it is menacing, unprofessional, and a direct failure to honor the ATRA warranty program. The shop refused to perform due diligence, attempted to force me to sign a false legal document, and threatened my physical safety. Avoid this business at all costs. They took over a week before they even started my car and I had to keep calling to check status. Once I finally got my car back the broke a coolant line and tried to seal it with a putty. Luckily I had just replaced it and had an extra on I ordered from Amazon so I replaced it myself. They told my to come back at 1500 to get first service, that was a mistake and shouldn't have gone back. They damaged a brand new cv axle I had just replaced a few weeks prior and told me they'd charge me 190 for a new one and then labor on top of that. I told them to put it back together and I'd replace it again as it was still under warranty, I just had to take it off. Which I am very mechanical inclined but I can't rebuild a transmission which is why I went there. So when I drove off I noticed some suspicious suspension noise, then I hit the brakes and my car started shaking real bad, now it didn't have that problem before I brought it to them. I took off my wheel and noticed the back end or the lower control arm was loose and not placed properly. So now I have to correct what they did, such a headache that I payed for. Stay away from these guys !

    8L90 Started feeling slipping in the transmission, ended up…read morecoming to Angel before it went out. This is only the second time I have ever had a transmission issue on any vehicle. This is basically the 2nd worst thing that could happen to a vehicle IMO The job did take time but I made it work with getting around. Angel and his team did have to do some trouble shooting because this specific transmission requires the valve body to be primed on the bench prior to installation. He rebuilt the entire core and also changed out the engine rear main seal. Now, the transmission feels better than ever. I had to give him a little bit of a hard time about not having Zelle which he ended up getting after. Overall I would say, he really does care about taking care of his customers and will make sure the job is done correctly.

Second was a 2002 Yukon Denali, needed a transfer case rebuild. Just recently my wife's Dodge Durango had been giving us problems. Turns out it wasn't the transmission, but the TCM solenoid. With Angel's honesty, attention to detail, and great work ethic, I've had all repairs done correctly, with minimal downtime, and not being ripped off.     I can't say enough good things about Ed and his team at Transmission Specialist…read more My Ford F-150 suddenly went into limp mode and was stuck in third gear, along with a few other issues. Since my truck was out of warranty, I wasn't sure where to turn. I reached out through Yelp and heard back from Ed almost immediately. He had a good idea of what might be wrong and invited me to bring the truck in for an assessment. After inspecting it, he identified damage (caused by rats) to the transmission wiring harness, which had unfortunately caused internal damage. He walked me through everything clearly and provided a very reasonable estimate for a full rebuild. Throughout the entire process, Ed was easy to communicate with, always professional, and genuinely helpful with his advice. What really stood out was how he went above and beyond after the repair. I was told this type damage might be covered under my comprehensive auto insurance. Ed then took the time to work directly with my insurance company--providing detailed documentation and expert insight. Because of his effort and experience, the claim was approved and the repair ended up being fully covered. That level of service is rare these days. I truly appreciate Ed's honesty, professionalism, and follow-through. He did exactly what he said he would do and then some. I wouldn't hesitate to come back or recommend him to anyone in need of transmission work.

They took a look at my car for free to identify the issue and they detected the leak to be coming from my engine and not my transmission. They showed me exactly what they were seeing, why they thought it was my engine and not my transmission, and offered to put a dye in my transmission fluid to ensure it was my engine and not my transmission. I drove my car for a week and took it back to double check, and sure enough it was my engine! Although they spent time and care on my car, they didn't charge me a single penny, even when I insisted to at least pay for the dye. They were able to refer me another mechanic to fix my engine leak and I was able to get my issue solved that same day. As a woman who is nervous to get work done on my car, I had an excellent time at El Monte Transmission. If you are having transmission troubles, please go to them :)

John & his team are professional, and very honest, & took the time to explain exactly what was going on with my Jeep's transmission. The repair was done by the exact day they promised, & my beloved Jeep is running smoother than ever (it's 23 years old btw) Pricing was extremely fair & I loved their solid workmanship, you can tell they take pride in what they do.
