Background and Initial Service: My vehicle's transmission was rebuilt a few months ago by a different authorized ATRA shop. Due to a recent move, the original shop authorized me to bring the car to this affiliate location, a 30-mile drive from my new home, for a warranty diagnosis. Upon drop-off on 11/18/2025, the front desk employee immediately became cold and dismissive when I mentioned the words "warranty repair." The Issue & The Refusal to Diagnose: The problem is specific and reproducible: when the car is cold, driving downhill causes the transmission to shift into what feels like neutral. Pressing the gas results in rising RPMs but no movement, forcing me to shut the engine off and restart it to re-engage the drive. After two days, I received a call informing me they could not reproduce the issue and were refusing to work on the car. I explained to Miguel that the condition requires a cold start and a specific downhill coast, asking them to try again or keep the car longer. He flatly refused any further testing, stating they were done with the vehicle. Integrity Violation and Fraudulent Documentation: Since they refused to honor the warranty, I requested a written reason for the denial of service, which is standard procedure. Miguel went to review my paperwork. When he returned, he presented a form and demanded I sign it before he would provide any written explanation. This form was an explicit waiver where I would acknowledge that the issue I claimed was not present and that their testing proved my claim was false. I refused to sign a document that was contrary to reality, as the transmission issue is demonstrably still present. The Threat and Escalation: Because I refused to sign the false waiver, Miguel refused to give me any written denial and escalated the situation. He told me he wouldn't help me anymore because I was "not a nice person." When I stated I would write an accurate review of this unprofessional experience, he raised his voice and began threatening me: Threats of litigation. Explicit threats of physical harm to myself and/or my property at my home. Threats to contact my employer to have me fired. I immediately took my keys and walked to my car, with Miguel following me out of the office, continuing to curse and issue threats. This behavior is far beyond poor customer service; it is menacing, unprofessional, and a direct failure to honor the ATRA warranty program. Ford wanted to charge me $4k for a transmission so I said FU as I barely had 90k miles. After several months of renting cars I finally broke down and called around to get my transmission repaired. The first place I called answered the phone like they're were at home. Click dial tone for them! The second call was to Affordable and I spoke to Koz. Great attitude and informative. I then spoke to Manuel the following day who was very helpful and dropped knowledge about Ford. Anyway I got the transmission completed in November 2019 and I wanted to wait a few months to check it out. They did not replace the whole transmission, but updated the cluck plate and brought it up to code with new firmware etc. The bill for my 2012 Ford Transit was $2,523 out the door. I thought it was expensive, but not really as I know these guys have overhead especially insurance. My interaction with the man who answered seemed shady af He says he has days worth of cars waiting in his lot. He is so backed up he can't even look at a car and give me a quote for at least 3 days. Ok i can bring it in 3 days then, nope he wants me to leave it there till he gets to it, he wants it to wait in a physical line. He won't even let me make an appointment. I already have a full diagnostic report complete with codes and part numbers needed so if he is busy can he just use that to give me an idea? No he wants to rerun it. They are honest when doing diagnostic. I had a leaking radiator and I had to top it off every week with coolant. I took it to another place and quoted $4600 - this is a 2001 Jeep GCL. They wanted to replace, radiator, hoses, water pump, coolant reservoir, and head gasket. Took it to this place, did a full diagnostic and saw the intake on right side was bad and recommended replacing the radiator only, $700 job. read more

Shoddy Work Here! Took my father in laws 1995 Avalon to this shop to have the C.V. Axels replaced and one broke 500 miles after install due to incorrect installation. This also was within 3 weeks after being there for repairs. Also upon picking up the car I looked under it to confirm axles were new and found linkage to sway bar broken. They were going to let me take the car with it being broken and not even give me a heads up. So, after advising the sales representative about the broken link they put the car backon the lift and welded it back on. They will turn a blind to broken parts and let you drive off without telling you. I highly advise you throughly check over they're work and any parts in immediate area. There is better shops in the area to go to and would not bring my bicycle to this place. read more

I took my car to Miguel at Affordable transmission after a brief conversation about my problems with a 2011 Ford Fusion. I was unable to make it to the shop on the same day I spoke with Miguel but he told me to bring it on Saturday. I show up at 10 am Saturday and Miguel remembered our full conversation regarding my car. We went for a test drive and then came back to the shop he did a visual inspection. He gave me a very reasonable quote/price considering what he was up against with my F'd up transmission. This place is awesome. The guys are really honest and helped me get my Kia back on the road. My gear shift wasn't working so they figured it out and it only cost me 142.00!!! Another place could have said it was my transmission and charged a few thousand. Fred the mechanic replied to my public post on Facebook and told me they would diagnose for free what was wrong with my car so I went over and I'm glad I did. The part did take longer than expected to arrive but it wasn't affordable transmissions fault, it was the KIA dealership that we ordered the part from. You need to ask lots of questions before for allowing any work to take place. Mike the manager isn't very forthcoming when it comes to a newer car. Always be aware that a warranty from the dealership May still apply. We had work done and it seems they did a good job. Although Mike the manager was eager to replace my transmission with what, I thought would be new and found out later it was used. It took a lot to pry information from Mike Re: warrantee the year of the transmission he put in how many miles are on it. All of these things should've been spelled out. Little disappointed in the quality of customer service but I should've asked more questions. I'm not sure if I can recommend Mike for future work remains to be seen. read more

Our 2002 Honda Accord SE, 4 cylinder, developed transmission problems at 55K miles. Several fluid changes kept us running, but by 65K we were ready for a major repair. After owning six very reliable Hondas since 1990, our surprise at this early failure was echoed by the dealer with whom we had purchased four of those vehicles and also by Honda Corp. After a test drive and diagnostic check, Buck James, the General Manager, explained options. We were even given a proud tour of the shop and introduced to Mike, the owner. The shop was busy with multiple types of repairs and still appeared orderly and clean. We decided to have their tech rebuild the transmission. The car was ready when promised and at a substantial savings from either option offered by our loyal dealer. Thirty days into driving our "new" transmission and we are quite satisfied. The automatic transmission started to go out on my 2002 Ford Taurus driving back from Las Vegas. I lost first gear at Barstow. The car had 150K miles on it at the time. I took the car to Affordable Transmission the next day for an exam. They drove it around and told me the AT needed to be rebuilt. I took my vehicle here because of a whining noise. The mechanics were professional and courteous and offered to test drive it. During the test drive, he picked up on two whining noises, one from the tires and one from the transmission. I told him i did not think it was still covered under the warranty, but he asked his coworker to call the dealer to check anyway.
