My fiancee and I had dinner at Bless recently to celebrate my birthday and we were blown away by the whole experience! I picked it from a Yelp list because it looked interesting. Berlin doesn't seem to have a culinary scene on par with some other cities I've been to so I wasn't expecting to be amazed--but I was! We visited on a Sunday night and walked in without a reservation.
To start off, the atmosphere is lovely. The decor feels very intentionally chosen. If you go, make sure you pay a visit to the restroom, because even the hallway that leads there is stunning (the lemongrass scent on the way was a delightful surprise).
Others have mentioned it, but the menu is in the form of a magazine, which was a bit off-putting. After eating the food I was not mad about it--they deserve to be as pretentious as they want with food this good--but a standard menu would be easier to deal with.
I had two cocktails: a Bless No. 1, which was delightful, and a Pho-tastic, which was a real treat. Somehow they have found a way to make Pho work as a cocktail and it's a thing of beauty.
We had the Portobello Tempura as an appetizer. It was executed perfectly. I had the Pandan Duck as my entree and my fiancee had the Tonkin Prawns. Both dishes were wonderful. The variety of house sauces provided was a nice touch and offered a way to savor individual bites with unique flavors. For dessert, a waiter suggested the mango sticky rice and it did not disappoint!
Overall it was a great way to celebrate my birthday, and I will definitely dine at Bless again the next time I'm in Berlin! read more
