Reputation and location and great food, and at an affordable price. Generous servings and big tables with staff who are interested. Free courtesy bus to boot. One had the pork ribs with a tasting paddle of local brews .. value Also the hallmark beef pie with bangers and mash Also the pork chop signature dish I had the warmed olives and then a tassie salmon chased down with a Blanc d Blanc from Peterson's vineyard .. the waiter took time to tell me this was the best wine in the district and complemented us on our choices Sit inside or outside but book early Ask for a quiet table if you want to talk as it fills up fast

Minimum two course order, it is $75 a head. Or you can pay $120 and get the taster. Either way all is good! Each meal is better than the last, you won't be disappointed. From the noodles in sake cream to the 70 hour slow cooked steak, it is all good. You will be sharing and enjoying each dish. If you get the taster, they will also give you wine for each meal. The service here is also nothing less than amazing. But you wouldn't expect any different. If you haven't got from this review, I love this place! I come here anytime I am in the Hunter, and every time I have never been disappointed. So come a long, and come with an empty stomach.

The wine recommended was absolutely amazing. Also, given the somewhat dated exterior of the restaurant, the interior was superbly designed and laid out. The on the house starter also tipped me over the edge to a perfect score. These people run a seriously tight ship, with perfect customer service. I'm very impressed, and will 100% come back to Muse on my next visit to the Hunter!

After touring some of the wineries in the area, I wanted to sit outside, enjoy the beautiful scenery and have some terrific food and wine. The Verandah, located at the Calais Estate, was the perfect solution with their wrap around upstairs porch overlooking the rolling estate. There were two choices for lunch- a pre selected "Tapas Tower" which is a feast for two with several daily selections ($80) or a la carte tapas items listed a few pages back in the menu. I went with the latter and had a chance to taste a wide range of their offerings and all were amazingly good. My favs were the polenta coated soft shell crab, the mushroom aranachi, and the jambon. They also had a nice wine list and were able to find me a local Cabernet that was quite nice! The service staff was super helpful, even re directing the fan my way given it was a very hot day on the veranda. But my visit was really topped off by the welcoming nature of Sharon, the manager. She kept stopping at my table to ensure all was well and even related a story about her recent trip to Chicago where someone went out of their way to help her and her husband. It made for a great visit. So I'll end where I began. If you want a great location, outstanding food and a staff that cares, look no further than The Verandah. It really will make your entire experience in the Hunter Valley one to remember!

Order at the counter and they bring it out to you. Looking at the menu there was a few thing to choose from. I chose something a bit more traditional and got the beef (added bacon) burger. The chips were quite nice and the burger... okay. It wasn't anything amazing. A little boring is all I could gather. It needed something like ranch or tangy aioli to give it a bit more zing. Overall a decent place to stop for food and for a reasonable price. But nothing totally amazing.

My partner and I had lunch here after playing putt putt and Aqua golf. It had gone 2 pm and since it was a Tuesday it wasn't as busy as I've seen it in the past. Weekends can be a rush. I ordered a chocolate thickshake which came in one of those massive metal mixing cups. I love spooning out the ice cream before sipping my way to a full milk belly. It was delicious! My roast chicken wrap was pricey for the size. $18 with no accompanying chips but it too was tasty and I enjoyed the combination of the mellow tasty cheese with the red onion and roasted capsicum. An ice cream shop adjoins the building; I think they are both linked under Oscars.

Silly signs, clocks and cute things which I assume can all be bought. The place felt a bit tight, and we were the only ones (besides the staff) who were inside. The staff were very friendly and were glad to have us, even if we ordered just drinks. One spider (cola and vanilla ice cream) and a chocolate thick shake, and when they say thick shake they mean it. It was glorious, like cold chocolate concrete. The open kitchen had an amazing aroma to it, the smell of beef and bacon and toast. It made us wish we weren't full from an earlier meal. Once your done eating/drinking you can look around for some fun to buy. I have a feeling that this place would be great for children.

Inside the tables are very oldschool and rustic, but everyone always sits outside because after all, it is the Hunter Valley... and the scenery is just breathtaking. Never leave this place without trying the Drover Burger, a burger they are famous for. With a huge patty and special Mayo... sure it drips, but it's delicious. They have Beetroot Chutney and other yummy ingredients all tasting fresh and the wait is not too long when busy either. They lovely ladies at the counter are so friendly, and it is super kid friendly with colouring pencils and paper for the kids to keep busy. Always a fan, and I will return here... for about $16 the burgers are totally worth it. (There are no fries/chips on the menu though... I guess that's a good thing)
