Different from the norm accommodation. Not one large building as you may expect in Sydney for instance; instead they were like huts that were spread out across the property. Ours was split diagonally offering separate stays either side. We stayed in a one bedroom with kitchenette, small lounge/dining section and a bathroom with shower over spa. Had a bit of a strong cleaning smell when we first arrived and the patio area (with table and chairs) smelled like someone didn't make it to the toilet. Number 1 that is! But it could have been the wildlife. Was nice to watch a few kangaroos and a sunset on our first night. Complete with swimming pool and the Tuk Tuk restaurant (not quite sure on opening hours). The late check out of 12pm was a blessing. I'd happily return.

The cheese platter was small but it was OK. I didn't expect too much from it anyway. This place are serviced apartments, not hotels so it is little apartments all spread out on ground level. We picked up the keys from the front desk and drove to our apartment. Not all the apartments are close to the entrance. Our apartment faced the back of the property where there was a lake and a lot of open space. One afternoon we saw kangaroos hopping around which was amazing! They were wild but we got close enough to take photos. The sun set nicely over the lake and it was a lovely view. The room was a one bedroom apartment and it was clean. There was a bathtub and a normal shower. There was a sofa bed in the lounge as well as a dining table. There was also chairs outside. The kitchen is fully equipped (nothing fancy) and there were pots and pans to use to cook. There wasn't anything to clean the dishes with (no sponges / detergent) which was weird. The breakfast was quite large and hearty and I was glad for it to be included in our deal. Unfortunately i can't remember how much our package cost but it was good value for money and I would go there again. Leisure Inn is just near Tempus Two which has great dessert wine! My first go at degustation - I was very impressed and I am now well and truly hooked on this way of dining. From the 8 courses enjoyed, it is hard to choose my favourite dish but I would say either the pan fried local snapper (so fresh!) or the angus beef brisket. Both cooked to perfection. My only complaint - and it's a strange one - the servings of wine could have been smaller. Serving a generous glass of wine with 6 of the courses was more than we could drink and left me a little too full to enjoy the desert. After touring some of the wineries in the area, I wanted to sit outside, enjoy the beautiful scenery and have some terrific food and wine. The Verandah, located at the Calais Estate, was the perfect solution with their wrap around upstairs porch overlooking the rolling estate. There were two choices for lunch- a pre selected "Tapas Tower" which is a feast for two with several daily selections ($80) or a la carte tapas items listed a few pages back in the menu. I went with the latter and had a chance to taste a wide range of their offerings and all were amazingly good. My favs were the polenta coated soft shell crab, the mushroom aranachi, and the jambon. They also had a nice wine list and were able to find me a local Cabernet that was quite nice! The service staff was super helpful, even re directing the fan my way given it was a very hot day on the veranda. But my visit was really topped off by the welcoming nature of Sharon, the manager. She kept stopping at my table to ensure all was well and even related a story about her recent trip to Chicago where someone went out of their way to help her and her husband. It made for a great visit. So I'll end where I began. If you want a great location, outstanding food and a staff that cares, look no further than The Verandah. It really will make your entire experience in the Hunter Valley one to remember!
